Oh my God, I stumbled upon the most moving video on Youtube! This literally brought tears to my eyes. As a transsexual woman in hiding, I feel that I NEED to tell my parents about my birth defect. Yeah this is partly true. It's a common misconception that all animals are female w/out mismatched (XY) chromosomes. In birds for example males are ZZ and females are ZW. Also the idea of female as default gender isn't really accurate either... it's more like a sexless mass that develops into ovaries in XX and into testes in XY.

It really gets to me, because in our society, and really among all humanity, you don't even have to be different to be hated for being different. From watching some of these videos I am really gaining a better perspective on what it means to be transgendered. I still feel conflicted about one issue though, "gender re-assignment" surgery. I feel like taking hormones that aren't being naturally produced in your body is slightly unhealthy but I can accept it, however, surgically removing a part of your body that is not posing any fatal harm to you..I can empathize with your suffering but I feel that our bodies are sacred and it's wrong
Hormones can be harmful, however if one is mindful and leads a healthy life then the chances of getting side effects from them lessen. I am very healthy and I have taken hormones for many years. As far as removing healthy body parts, to a person with gender dysphoria the parts are like a cancer that needs to be removed. They do not belong and therefore the harm they do is worse then there removal. I thank you for trying to understand.
@jcordell206 actually, the human body does produce all the same hormones, but the amounts of estrogen in men and testosterone in women are smaller than found in the respectively-opposite sexes. And as for the surgical procedure, that difference in flesh is why many transgendered persons choose to simply live as the opposite gender, without the change, with or w/o hormones. It's the individual's choice, just like any cosmetic procedure.

It's a biological condition created by a variation of homronal bathing. Your gender center is programmed in your brain and it's subject to the chemicals that are programmed in the gender center, so it is much more than just feelings. This is not psychological but biological. A child knows at a tender age of 3 what gender they identify as, I knew from a very young age. I wouldn't call it a problem, it is a biological condition. Just as a child is born with a cleft palate or born with both genitals are partial ( intersex ). My parents tried " curing" me with hormone therapy (estrogen )which made it worse. My brain is programmed to be male, no estrogen can change that. I found my cure, I aligned my body with my brain. Having children has never been an issue, and if I wanted I could. There are adoptions you know.

Oh my God, I stumbled upon the most moving video on Youtube! This literally brought tears to my eyes. As a transsexual woman in hiding, I feel that I NEED to tell my parents about my birth defect. I was born a beautiful woman and no matter what anyone else says or sees, THAT'S what I see myself as! I've also learned to turn off my emotions when I feel they are going to take control. Yeah this is partly true. It's a common misconception that all animals are female w/out mismatched (XY) chromosomes. In birds for example males are ZZ and females are ZW. Also the idea of female as default gender isn't really accurate either... it's more like a sexless mass that develops into ovaries in XX and into testes in XY.

It really gets to me, because in our society, and really among all humanity, you don't even have to be different to be hated for being different. It's so much more in our better nature to love for being similar, even if you aren't, because on deeper levels, we all are. We forget to love, and then say that God hates. It's no more rational a claim than what we purport to be false, in many cases.

From watching some of these videos I am really gaining a better perspective on what it means to be transgendered. I still feel conflicted about one issue though, "gender re-assignment" surgery. I feel like taking hormones that aren't being naturally produced in your body is slightly unhealthy but I can accept it, however, surgically removing a part of your body that is not posing any fatal harm to you..I can empathize with your suffering but I feel that our bodies are sacred and it's wrong

Hormones can be harmful, however if one is mindful and leads a healthy life then the chances of getting side effects from them lessen. I am very healthy and I have taken hormones for many years. As far as removing healthy body parts, to a person with gender dysphoria the parts are like a cancer that needs to be removed. They do not belong and therefore the harm they do is worse then there removal. I thank you for trying to understand.

@jcordell206 actually, the human body does produce all the same hormones, but the amounts of estrogen in men and testosterone in women are smaller than found in the respectively-opposite sexes. And as for the surgical procedure, that difference in flesh is why many transgendered persons choose to simply live as the opposite gender, without the change, with or w/o hormones. It's the individual's choice, just like any cosmetic procedure.

It's a biological condition created by a variation of homronal bathing. Your gender center is programmed in your brain and it's subject to the chemicals that are programmed in the gender center, so it is much more than just feelings. This is not psychological but biological. A child knows at a tender age of 3 what gender they identify as, I knew from a very young age. There is nothing disturbing about it if you would look outside the box.

I wouldn't call it a problem, it is a biological condition. Just as a child is born with a cleft palate or born with both genitals are partial ( intersex ). My parents tried " curing" me with hormone therapy (estrogen )which made it worse. My brain is programmed to be male, no estrogen can change that. I found my cure, I aligned my body with my brain. Having children has never been an issue, and if I wanted I could. There are adoptions you know.

The gender center is in the brain once that has developed there is no hormone to fix it, you must fix your genitals instead. But what do you know? mark i totally think you make a great point here. there is a theory that nature created transgender individuals as well as gay and lesbian person as a population curbing mechanism what are your thoughts on this if you dont mind my asking? the reason i ask this is if you look at other populations in nature such as monkeys and frogs and many other types if there are to many of them or to many of one gender the animals develope transgenderly or exibit same sex interest to control the population.

Transvestites and transgendered people who are not full transsexuals can also experience dysphoria. With that dysphoria comes depression and self-loathing.
I dont think I should tell my mother the stuff about chemicals during fetal development. It will only make her feel that my transgenderedness was something she did wrong. I dont want her to feel guilty or blame herself.

My definition of transvestite are those individuals who have a fetish with female clothing, but do not feel female. As far as transgendered people they are part of the spectrum and yes they too experience dysphoria. As far as telling your mother regarding the chemical interaction in utero has nothing to do with blame nor guilt, after all it is no ones fault. Sometimes things just happen, especially when mankind mess with natures way. and we have. Chemicals in the enviroment alter things.

female - has a X Chromosome with no Y Chromosome, which is means she is a female.
male - has at least one X Chromosome and one Y Chromosome. No matter how much X Chromosomes you have, as far as you have one Y Chromosome, you're male.

I have friends who have been able to legally change their names and gender listed on thier drivers licence in the state of Ohio and Ohio is not exactly LGBT friendly. Also, the surgery you want everyone to pay for is not for a life threatening situation and is merely cosmetic. No one out there strait or LGBT has the luxury of free cosmetic surgery. Your psychiatry however is covered because it is not cosmetic.

Does your ignorance ever end? Did I say driver's license? That is EASY. Try getting a new birth certificate with your correct gender without having SRS surgery. Virtually impossible, and still hard even after surgery. NOT LIFE THREATENING? Try looking at the the suicide statistics of transsexuals!!! I get 20 sessions of therapy with my insurance and have to pay a $30.00 co-pay. That's $600 out of pocket & not even 6 months. And I pay my OWN health insurance so I'm not asking YOU for a handout.
