All Downie had too do was stay grounded and this hit was great.It's a shame bc Downie has toned down the BS antics over the last 2 seasons.The fucking guy has some talent,but for some reason likes to go over the edge.If he'd stop being an asshole he would be a decent 3rd liner and a solid 4th liner on most NHL teams.Yes I'm a Pens fan...

Other than leaving his feet this is a clean hit, if the defenseman had his head up he would have seen Downie coming and been able to prepare for the hit or avoid it. I've played contact hockey all my life and I've always been told if you don't keep your head up your going to get killed, NHL players seem to have forgotten this and think they are invincible like Lindros. Until guys learn these hits will continue and people will keep getting hurt.

@draper3455 I agree completely. Since when did it become the attackers job to make sure the puck carrier is paying attention? I think Cherry might be on to something with the equipment restrictions too- get rid of the armour! All that being said, Downie DID leave his feet here so, it was undoubtedly charging. I do believe however that Downie has generally cleaned up his act, n turned into a pretty respectable player, I actually like him nowadays.

@JP29MX LOL,LOL...Seriously?I've been watching Pens games since 86.Mike Lange was great in the 80's-90's.However,he's faded very fast.All those years he spent drinking has finally caught up to him.While listening too him is the voice I most associate with Penguins hockey,at times it's hard too bc he's like 55% of what he once was.In his prime there isn't a hockey announcer who could sniff his jock.The only announcer who ever came close to calling a game like Mike Lange is Gary Thorne.

He didn't hit him in full stride, and it didn't look like he jumped into him. You can leave your feet as long as it is after contact. Looks like a good hit on blurry youtube video. Lovejoy really shouldn't be in the NHL anyway, nevermind in the playoffs. Kind of setting himself up to be beat on like that.

@steeles21 why? They broadcast on a local Root Sports Pittsburgh station. Pittsburgh fans enjoy watching and listening to these guys because they are Pittsburgh fans also. Nobody in Pittsburgh wants to listen to those morons on NBC and VS. Most teams have at least homer radio announcers, should they all go too? You can always hit the mute button and do your own play by play if you don't have any other options.

I doubt he gets suspended for this. I personally think he should be, but based on Campbell's past I doubt he suspends it. Had he not left his feet he wouldn't have gone shoulder first into his head, but he did leave his feet and went shoulder first to his head. However the NHL never outlawed head hits, and since that's the case the only infraction was the leave of his feet which is a charge, which was called during the game. Great job NHL leaving everything in a gray area to save your own asses.

I am not one to be soft, but this would have been a legal hit had it not been a blatant charge. For 1 he came from centre ice to hit that guy at full stride; and 2, he left his feet. Otherwise, it was a nice hit.

It was not a good hit, because it was a charge and he left his feet, if he hadn't charged and left his feet, this hit would not have existed or had any chance to be "good".
