As an experienced director / cinematographer with 6 full length features under my belt, I must say the finished product is in the eye of the director and post production. I mean my movies looks no different from major big budget films but I didn't pay nothing close to it. It's just knowing the tricks, angels , good acting, and very good post production. Best wishes guys!
@HEAVYWEIGHTFILMS I thank you for your kind word and to answer your question, it depends on what camera you can afford. Most people will tell you the REDONE/Alexia/Sony F3 or The Af100 but not everyone can afford those cameras. So for me is using what you have to create nice angels, shots and images. There are some low cost DSLR cameras that can produce nice images. At the end, it boils down to the shots, angels, images and color grading in post. Hope I answered your question. Again thanks!
I think he's wasting time talking about equipment ....just start with what you can get and start filming. Sooner or later someone will be interested in what your doing and want in with their equipment and ideas. That's a great start.
Youtube makes this video look bad, and this camera does not shoot in HD, why is everybody talking about HD camcorders. HD is overrated anyways.
And to make money off of camcorders you do need to spend more then your usual amount of money you would spend at wal-mart or Best Buy. I got a Canon Gl2 for $900, that is cheap for that Camcorder and it is really nice!
Please look up videos actually about making movies and stop bickering about EV.
What the hell, that didn't tell us everything we didn't know. Dont speak in riddled and give us a camcorder everyday people can actually AFFORD. My max budget is £350 not £30,000
you know what pisses me off the most on these videos that camera is not a low budget camera hell you can get a camera way cheaper than that with fantastic picture and audio. he can shove his expensive ass camera up his ass and bend over and use himself as a tripod
@tttwas no ive used both, and i figured out if you adjust the brightness and contrast you can make it look more proffesional. obviously it won't look quite as good, but it's good enough for an indie film
@BillyandBarry not the kind of indie film that gets you into the film industry. you will find that cams like the xl2 and gl2 get you closer then any consumer. I suggest the HV40 if you still don't want to save your money a little bit longer.
Hey everybody, independent filmmakers Zack Zortman and Steve Kane here. Wed like you to check out our film, Colonial Commandments here on Youtube. Its the tale of a psycho Revolutionary War colonel wannabe who terrorizes a college student. If you like slapstick comedy and are willing to give our low-budget production a chance, simply type Colonial Commandments in on your Youtube search bar. The film is broken into 5 parts so be sure to watch them all! Thank you!
It's great that you are spreading your knowledge to the world but the first rule in film and programme making is GOOD SOUND! The poor quality of your sound renders all the hard work and information you are conveying useless, don't use front mic or built in mic it is bad and it is teaching people very very bad habbits.
What tha fuck is HD anyway? Is there a tecnical definition for that, or is it just a fancy name? Cause I haven´t found a definition or scale for quality, it reminds me of the old "hi def" label in sound equipments. Most things I see these days suposedly shot with a gizillion dollar camera kinda suck, so I ask myself is it really worth it? I, personally prefer film movies, even the cappier ones, they just seem more natural in every way.
For me that´s the definition of quality, the camera or method (same goes fo sound) that records real life in the most similar manner, not how many chips or megapixels.
I have to use the smallest camera's possible because I like the hand held style, And cheap cameras do fine if you set up the lights, and stuff up properly, and if you have windows movie maker, or adobe you can Do ADR and foley
a camera is not the most important thing in film making u could have a 70 dollar camaera and make a good movie. lighting and etc make up a movie not the camera
Its completely far fetched....A $70 camera is not going to allow you to change frame rate, shutter speeds, lenses, focus, or filters...on top of that it definitely won't have a good microphone or an in-line jack to plug in an external mic...and what is it going to record on?? A 16gb flash card can cost $50( Almost as much as this so called camera)... .Your right lighting and sound does make up a movie but if you record on something cheap and shitty thats EXACTLY how its going to look
Actually wrong again my friend bought a canon xl2 for only $80.00 basicly brand new only been used once. my other friend found a canon xl1 in japan for only $100.00 dollars so its not impossible to find a good camera! cheap
LMAO...A Canon Xl2 for 80?? and a XL1 for 100??? Sure.....your friend must have gotten it on sale for 98% off!....your a liar 2...you go from saying you can get it from Walmart to saying you need to go to Japan...and first you say $70 then you say $100...wtf man...Please shut up since its obvious you don't know what your talking about
@BulldogManiaOfficial don't go with flip video cams :P please, please, please! they are horribly compressed and just are not as high quality as a camcorder you could buy for another 100 to 200 dollars. (like the sony webbie, 140-170$ shoots in 720p and 1080i) You have to pay a whole lot more to get "true" HD cam.

Exactly, got mine from a store the went O.O.B.for about 450. and it took a lot to decide to get that! Seems fine enough, and he doesn't mention the fact that the advantage to a tiny cheapass camera is you can film nearly anywhere and not get hassled about permits, permission, and people in your backgroung going'hey look whats going on there?Cut-take 2!
but your right ive been everywhere with my cams easily noone ever said anything unless of course it was private property but then i ask first, if i was "survivor man" i d just carry small cams only, i have a sharp vdl, samsung 353, & jvc gr250 all used off ebay for about $75 each, i can do alot with those -except low light - the lenses are too small, dv tapes r $2 each on ebay! id kill to have a camera like he has, but then id make sure to use it wisely,
That's funny....I was cast as a background artist (extra) in a TNT movie. Worked long hours, in lots of scenes (most were cut) so, in the last scene I was given lines and a bunch of geese overhead came by and fucked it up for me. That was wrap for that day. Now, I think I want to start a film myself too. Thanks
You gave me an idea for my next youtuber. I have some outtakes of my actress auditions-one in particular, where a train rolls by, then 2 helicopters, all within my 2 frickin minute shot. Probably would be bigs laughs now. Wasn't that funny then...
Gotta love "not so expert" village. I'm definitely no expert and am trying to learn more about movie making, but I can tell you this... it's hard to take anyone seriously about making movies that doesn't bother to do a basic white balance. My cheep SD camera does a better auto-WB than that shot.
lmao bro theres nothing wrong with an hd camera if anything its better than that canon xl2, plus you say its a negative because you have to have storage for your computer...well no shit!! lol you end up paying for storage with a tape camera vs a computer with a big harddrive.

The problem with these videos is that there is too much talk that is not related to the topic.
This should be about how to make a film and not about the camera.
Also, it needs to be MUCH longer if you talk about filmmaking.
What you do is like telling someone how to be an actor in less than two minutes.
