  • this range game music was used in the game until the think music cue came in 1989.

  • Did the door just swing back and forth at 1:53?

  • Back in 1982, Check Game was called "Blank Check". You had to get between $3,000 to $3,500 to win the game.

  • nice posting...interesting that during the early days of blank check/check game, a check between $500 and 750 would hit the range...i also learned here that the purple/red/orange wall pattern was around in 1982, i thought it debuted in 1984...

  • The lineup given by somebody else matches that of April 13, 1983. Just thought I'd let you know the date of this episode.

    -Daniel

  • Excellent - thanks!!!

  • Did they always use the "Range Finder" music when writing the check?

  • Bob always hated explaining the rules of this game.

  • Did Alfred win wit .80???

  • Is it me; Or does Bob Barker act like a dick in this segment;

Kind of a shot when he refers to her account back home always being overdrawn, too

  • agreed

  • The other games besides this one were One Right Price, Hole in One, Danger Price, Bonus Game and 3 Strikes just to let you know.

  • Y R they using the range game cue @ the Check Game?

  • Because it was also used as the think music for Blank Check/Check Game until roughly 1988 when the think music with the keyboard instrumentation was introduced.

  • Lol at the Range Game noise being used here.

  • It's the right cue to be using for this part of the game IMO

  • did anyone notice the panel of the door moved before it open to reveal the prize

  • Do you know the exact date this episode aired? Also, this may be asking too much, but do you know the other games that were played on this episode?

  • I do not know the exact date. It was in 1983 though, not 1982. I dont know the other games either.

  • waterbeds are soooo 1980s i had one until 2004 LOL

  • I cannot even begin to imagine what its like to see someone i know on the price is right!!!! very kewl!!

  • Check Game is the most unfairly treated of all the current games. Bob (soon to be Drew) and the audience all groan when they see it, but it's not that difficult to figure out!

  • Poor Bob has hearing trouble.. maybe it's the noise of the audience. Awesome

  • Your mom seems so nice :-)

  • That gives me some really cool WFMY-TV/WTVD-TV flashbacks! I loved Holly Hallstrom.

  • i want one of those entertainment centers!!

  • My parents (B.N. is my mom) still have the entertainment center in their living room. The next year's model was shipped so the one she actual got had a cassette player instead of an 8-track. :)

  • I surprised they were still offering 8 tracks in 82; They were on the way out by then. By the Mid 80's only record and tape clubs sold them

I like how your mom is dressed up. You don't see game show contestants dress up anymore on Price is Right.

Most people wear Price is Right T Shirts, College T Shirts or service people are dressed in miltary uniforms nowadays on TPIR

  • The 8 track is shown on the show, but when it was delivered it was the next model year version and it had a tape deck. The entire entertainment center is still in their living room.

  • Who is Barbara Nelson???

  • Is it just me or did the wheel spin easier (like it was lighter) back then?

  • I don't think the wheel's weight has changed. Most likely, they tightened it so that the spins would take less time. Less time for spins = more time for commercials. It became necessary to have more time for commercials because the television landscape became much more competitive than it was when TPIR first started.

  • I have a queen sized waterbed I purchased second hand for only $80, and I still have it. Check Game was not one of my favotite games though

  • wow, a waterbed. That takes me back

  • I love how the checks had a date of TODAY, 19 or 20 NOW. They never showed the date of the taping nor the date of the showing, because it would spoil if it was new or a rerun. You can see they were a bit stingy giving away money in this game back then. Nowadays, you can make the check for about $2,000+ and still win. :)

  • I saw todays show I thought it was going to be a big extravaganza it was just a regular show its sad to see bob go as the host well I hope his sucessser is as good thats a lot of shoes to fill

  • I wonder if any contestant in the history of TPIR was able to explain how to play the Check Game (Blank Check).

Remember once you stop writing the check you can't start writing on it again for 37 hours. lol

  • I'm not too sure myself, but I can explain it the way it's played right now. You write the check for any amount you wish, and it'll be added to the prize value. If the total is between $5,000 and $6,000, you win the money and the amount you wrote the check for.

  • Yeah, I know how it's played; I meant has any contestant on the show has successfully explained to Bob how to play the game. I've never seen it happen.

Of course, compound that with the fact that many people don't know how to (properly) write a check.

  • Haha...best thing from the "Range Game" I've ever heard!

  • & of course when they produce a show with episodes

somehow they have to stay ahead of production.

  • This game was originally called "Blank Check" (not a Disney movie from 1994), but it was renamed "Check Game". By the way, the sound you hear on that game sounded a lot like "Range Game". It was replaced by a music came from "Make Your Move".

  • Also interesting seeing how everyone was dressed like they were going to church or something. No goofy T-shirts with corny puns...

  • Remember how around the world people were not so casually(lax) dressed back then? Even more in the mid century. They were smart casual, plus this was "casual" to them, but dressy and stylish. I think the early 80s was the last of these days, then it became too casual and slobby.

  • Definitely at least fall of 1982, as the music used on the WBMG commercial is from their CBS' "Great Moments" campaign of the 1982-83 season. That station promo looked very advanced for the era.

  • What other games were played on this ep.?

  • hmmmm....i didn't know the sound currently used for the range game was used for the blank check game

  • no it is not, that's the only sound for the range game

however, the check game is the same sound for

    make your move.

  • Great comments! You guys know way too much about TPIR :)

  • And to this day, people still never know how to play this game. LOL.

  • Well, this was back when the game was fairly new.

  • It was ten years old at this point.

  • Check Game started on The Price is Right in 1982. So it was new.

  • Check Game was originally Blank Check, but was changed years later after lawsuit with Barry-Enright.

  • The Price is Right premiered in 1972; Check Game premiered in '81.

  • I'm sorry to ask, who is Barbara Nelson?

  • Babara was the peson who post this video's Mom.

  • this 1983 because the wipes when bob does hads entertace, started in march 1983.

  • This episode was probably taped around x-mas 1982

  • Theres only 2 ways this episode aired the week before x-mas when the turntable change, but the game side of it was a red wall, so March 30, 1983- End of this season because the wipes in the opening started in 1983

  • No, the episode was TAPED in late '82, but AIRED in early '83. There's a six or so week delay between tapings and airings. Case in point - The first playing of plinko was aired on 1/3/83, but the episode was taped in Nov '82. And they were doing the wipes in 82, I have a few epiosdes myself where they wiped to bob and the copyright on the end was '82.

  • I have seen a Christmas 1982 episode done this exact way, so yes, it was taped in late 1982.

  • @uwtitanfan You're right, that means this episode was aired on either January 18 or February 9, 1983.

  • yeah I can tell it was 1982 because of the hexagonal back drop they used as Bob entered, also the walls on the turntable were red purple and orange all the way around

  • I've heard a lot about how people have so much trouble with this game, and I don't know why! It's just basic addition, after all. You just write a number on a check, and that number is then combined with the price of the prize as at stake, hopefully resulting in a sum of $5000-$6000. Is it really THAT hard to understand?

  • Hey, YOU should tell the contestents how to play!!:)

  • congrats on your mom winning, sorry she didn't make it into the showcase.

  • Notice how much older the contestants and the audience members were in those days.

  • whoa Bob Barker with dark hair lol

  • Yeah - it was my mom on the show. She still has the check and the prizes. We taped on VHS back in 1982. I digitized the old tape 2006.

  • wow cool. Lucky her. And she got to meet Bob Barker. Bob Barker is my game show idol.

  • Thanks for posting this. I have one question: Was that your mom who was the contestant on that episode?

  • judging by your name I take it this is your mom? do you still have these prizes and the check?

  • Great! If you have anymore, please post it!

  • Gotta be one of the first playing of this, cuz it's called "Blank Check" vs. today's name "Check Game". You musta taped this back then? I don't see a "GSN" symbol. Never seen this before either. Thanks
