Hi, I got a 2009 patriot, I have only one swicht near my shifter, 4x4 on or 4x4 off. If my swicht is at off, do I got the intelligent all wheel drive?
@Zpinua hey my dad might buy this jeep so i just want to know if its a good 4x4 or not because we live in canada and its very snowy in the winter, thanks
I liked the video and it answered some questions for me, but the driver in this vid could have done better if he just straightened his god damn wheels when he backed out or went forward when he was stuck. It was like watching a an inexperienced female driver wonder why she cant get out of her parking spot while her wheels are cranked and she is flooring it. Damn it was frustrating to watch!
love how the nex are chiming in every time. "YOU TAKE UR OL GROSHRY GITTER N GET OFF'N MY TRAILS!" Sorry. Not plannin to get anything over a 4cyl any time soon. I want a Wrangler so bad, but between gas prices, the economy and most of all the environmental situation... i just can't justify it. And this Patriot seems to fit the bill perfectly. mid twenty mpg's, plenty of room for the family AND 4WD for a little fun and safety. And for the price, can't beat it.
@Alan12112 Low range is only available in a "Transmission with Off-Road Crawl Ratio", which is included in the "Freedom Drive II Off-Road Group" (jeep-patriot.ucoz.ua/forumfiles/3.2.jpg). This package is only available for American cars, and in non-US showrooms is not available. I bought the car in the US and delivers it on the ferry to port in my country.
@ulric291 Wow, you are a tool. You apparently didn't consider the fact that there is more than just one kind of Grand Cherokee out there. Your WJ has aluminum axles. Have fun upgrading that. WJs by the way aren't that bad, its the later WK and newer that are just plain grocery getting vehicles. I own an '00 XJ, ya, OWN. It is lifted with 33's and I take it all over, in fact I just participated in a 120 vehicle course in ITALY. So, you have fun with your mall hopper.. FAIL
I just bought a 2010 north one of these. Can't wait for it to snow here in bc. I am coming from a 4x4 ranger so was a bit nervouse about the handling in that kind of weather... Your video inspires confidence in my new baby!
this may sound stupid, but does it have a display to show which driving mode it is on, as in either 4wd low, 4wd lock, or 2wd, possibly on the dashboard?
@ulric291 How about you get "educated." Grand Cherokees, Libertys, Patriots and Commanders are all yuppie soccer mom SUVs. If you want an actual 4x4, then get something without IFS/IRS. (Independent Front Suspension / Independent Rear Suspension) The only 4x4 Jeeps that should carry the logo have a solid axle for both front and rear, I.e. CJ, MJ, XJ, TJ, YJ, JK ZJ. All the rest are shit.
@trackermike45 You sir are an idiot. I would love to see your Patriot on the side of the trail, where it was pushed off because it got stuck because the idiot driving didn't realize that a stock suv with street tires can't compare to one that is lifted, with M/Ts, lockers and anything else that is available. I would laugh at your dumbass and I hope to see you out there, just so I can laugh and fly mud up onto your mall hopper as I go by.
@mike8301 why would you assume I have a patriot , everytime you reply to someone you show your ignorance. I stick by what I said, driver skill is 90 percent. add ons obviously do make a big difference but you have to have the skill to make it all work together. stop showing your imaturity to everyone and use that organ inside your skull.

@trackermike45 I don't care what you have, I have the experience and know what I am talking about. You have repeatedly failed to counter what I have said with any facts or proof to the contrary to back up your belief. To put it this way, this weekend while offroading I was watching a buddy of mine trying to make it up a certain hill that was beyond impossible without lockers. This was proven by 30 vehicles not making it, but about 8 or so that had lockers made it. PROVE ME WRONG..
came across this looking for patriot footage as my girlfriend is buying one. Word of CAUTION, I would recommend to any to NOT BUY A PATRIOT! Problems I have had with my 07 Jeep Patriot, Front lower control arm bolts and engine cradle bolts replaced, sway bar end links replaced, horn replaced, new transmission. Also, I have had problems with the center counsel, rear brakes squeaking since NEW and rear suspension knocking since new. This is my last Jeep. The Patriot is JUNK!
@pcmbdl01 that is why companies improve on vehicles when they come out with a new one. I have a 2010 Jeep Patriot and it has been great, the only problems that I have encountered are that I CANT STAND TO FILL UP ON GAS EVERY 3-4 DAYS!! A 13 gallon tank!! You have got to be kidding me, I seriously wish I could count how many times I've been at the pump since I got this new vehicle. Even though its a hassle its only $33 to fill up. Other then that the vehicle is great!! Buy an extended warranty!
@ramseyrachel89 Chrysler has had years to improve their vehicle's and they are still producing shit. I have owned other Chrysler vehicle's that have had similar problems like my Patriot. Transmission problems, brake problems and suspension problems. I have talked to other people who own this that experienced the same conditions. I have worked in the Auto Industry for about 10 years and I am well educated with this Industry. 2010? You should have no problems. It's new! Just a fair warning
You said that choosing (deciding) "between selec trac and command trac". Therefore, I recommend the 4WD Auto mode available in selec trac II drive system. Command trac II 4wheel drive system is suitable only for off-road (part-time), Selec trac II is suitable for any roads and off-roads (full-time).
Yes. Exceptionally in complete(conjunction) with low-gear, in 4WD LOW mode. When 4WD LOW mode enabled, the center diff locked and the gearbox goes into a reduced number 2,71:1. Agree, 4WD Lock HIGH mode by comand trac - a useless mode. Therefore, the selec trac more expensive, than comand trac. ;)
how do you put the Patriot in 4wd un-lock mode so all torque is on the left rear wheel? Is this just engaging the 4wd without putting it in low gear? Or 4wd with the esp turned off?
In the normal mode (4wd un-lock, high gear, any mode ESP) center differential is free, and cross-axle differential lock is not simulated. In this case, of course, all the torque can go to a single wheel, which has the least resistance (hanging in the air). Once engaged 4WD Lock - torque was distributed to the front axle and the car started.
IDK why ppl hate these so-called "fake" Jeeps{patriot}. there more reliable, get way better MPG then the other ones and have AWD that is more then enough for most ppl. anyway
Having a locked diff. really makes a difference. Got one installed on my 08 pathfinder (only w/ limited slip), plus with bfgoodrich all terrain tires installed just recently.
We finally had our first real snowfall here in WV. I took my Patriot out for some fun and was amazed how well it handled. The traction control and ABS, as well as the ESP was flawless, much better than my Explorer.
i was researching on this car...it handles better off road than on road...but if u always want a jeep with good gas milage and low price and a non rice egg looking car ...i think its worth it.
Handles just fine on the road for an SUV...better than the older Calibers and HHR CUVs, IMHO. THe suspension is tuned differently than the Caliber and Compass, and should have been more fine-tuned in 2009 and 2010 models, over the '07 & '08 (which is comfortable enough for me to prefer it over a bouncy Nitro).
Better than older Calibers? There's no such thing as an "older caliber." They came out in 2007 and very little has been changed on the Caliber since then.
Still, differences do exist. Even between the not-Trail Rated Patriot and Compass. These cars are different suspensions, shock absorbers have different part numbers, off-road ability is also slightly different. And a Patriot FDII and a Caliber (only with on-demand 4x4 or FWD) the difference even more.
What Zpinua said a while back, lol...do people not realize suspension tuned differently does alter ride handling, or are too many people too lazy to type some words or read page a text to get an idea of what they are trying to talk about?
If you intend to go on 4x4 trails, the Freedom Drive II (FDII) "Trail-Rated" package would be the way to go, gives you skid plates, all the 4WD goodies, and an extra inch of ground clearance. If you decide to get one in any case, don't opt for the smaller 2.0L engine, not worth the performance loss for the negligible savings in gas or cost.
hahaha nicee i need to find virgin snow like this here in canada this winter. im gonna buy winter tires this time either the michelin xi2 or the bridgestone blizzak ws60 not sure which 1 but they both seem good ~2001 honda crv ^^
At the 4:33 using the "Low Range" in CVT2L - of course, that this FDII version. Do not guess. :D Rear right wheel does not spinning at 3:01 because, as torque was not enough to lock the rear left slipping wheel. As soon as the pressure on the accelerator increased (foot on the gas pedal) at the 3:10, the BLD (brake lock differential system) immediately activated the left rear brake pads and the torque is sufficient for crank (turn, rotate) rear right wheel. I hope you understand me. ))
哇,这车看起来真不错!

what do ppl think of the patriot ? im thinking of getting one is it worth it? and what package is the best for the patriot?
KINGOUNIT 2 years ago
If you intend to go on 4x4 trails, the Freedom Drive II (FDII) "Trail-Rated" package would be the way to go, gives you skid plates, all the 4WD goodies, and an extra inch of ground clearance. If you decide to get one in any case, don't opt for the smaller 2.0L engine, not worth the performance loss for the negligible savings in gas or cost.

Very nice!
Have you had to use your tow hooks yet?
psaulesl 2 years ago
Tow hooks were not used because there was no winches or other vehicle. This trip was quite risky.

Don't you have Tow hook on the rear? I can't see them.
Arnold3D 2 years ago
On the rear Patriot's have only one tow hook - left. There are 3 hook.

Is yours FDI or FDII? From the rear wheel not spinning at 3:01 I'm guessing FDI?
I have yet to do something like this with my Compass 4x4. haha
knightfallzx2 3 years ago
At the 4:33 using the "Low Range" in CVT2L - of course, that this FDII version. Do not guess. :D Rear right wheel does not spinning at 3:01 because, as torque was not enough to lock the rear left slipping wheel. As soon as the pressure on the accelerator increased (foot on the gas pedal) at the 3:10, the BLD (brake lock differential system) immediately activated the left rear brake pads and the torque is sufficient for crank (turn, rotate) rear right wheel. I hope you understand me. ))
