For all of you, the bagpipe as such is used in the traditional music of Galicia, Asturias, El Bierzo, León, Sanabria, Zamora and Cantabria, since time immemorial. All of these communities and provinces of Spain, because Spain is not only andalusia or olé olé, and not all are as sold out of here. Northern Spain is totally different to Spain to travel agencies.

Before talking you have to know the whole country, and distinguish the different cultures that comprise it.

@cherusa Aye,Galicia is one part of Spain.Then again those things can come and go.Ireland used to be part of the UK but the people from Eire can't be called 'brits' now.This is a Galician piper (tho he doesn't look like one;he's a bit of a 'rock star' rather than a proper traditional piper) and that can't be changed by politics.He plays the Galician national instrument:Gaita Galega,which isn't a Spanish instrument,only Galician.Sameway Uilleann Pipes weren't 'Brit Pipes' b4 independence

Please, don't call "Spanish Bagpipes" to the Galician Bagpipe, "Gaita" is a general name common to Galician, Portuguese and Spanish, and its meaning is "Bagpipe", that's to say, "any kind of bagpipe". In the Iberian peninsula there are several kinds of "gaita": Asturian gaita, Galician gaita, "gaita de foles" in Portugal, "alboka" in the Basque Country, "sac de gemecs" in Catalonia...
