  • I remember when he whipped the mad dog Buzz Sawyer with chains right in front of us. My friend at the time and I talked all the way home -- this was fake?

  • He lives in Wilson north Carolina. Which is why he has a southern accent.

  • Yeah...why isn't he inducted to the Hall of Fame?

  • Strange for a Canadian sounding southern....

  • Ivan Koloff has a southern accent?? WTMF?!?!?!?

  • i know him. my dad is his friend.my dad saw him in wal mart.

  • WWWF Champions defintely a dying breed.

  • He's not Russian, ha ha. I know him. I've known his daughter for years....american as can be. It was just a job, he was basically being an actor.

  • @jec0620 you dont know him that well,he is canadian.

  • He's actually from Canada. It's funny to hear him talk without the fake Russian accent.

A friend of mine told me a great Ivan story.. WCW was in town, and my friend was at the hotel bar where the wrestlers were staying. He got a bunch of autographs from various wrestlers, but when he approached Ivan, he stayed in character and said "I sign nothing for stupid Americans!" CLASSIC!

  • Red McNulty from Winnipeg....If he'd been born fifteen years later they'dve billed him from Teheran instead of Moscow

  • Ivan is now an ordained minister. He has performed weddings.

  • I saw him the other day and got his autograph.

  • Ivan is such a classy person! The work that he does today! Just a great guy! God Bless you!

  • What year is this interview? He looks exactly the same. The guy looks in great shape.

  • Ivan was one of the big ten in the original wwwf.

  • He was the first to beat Bruno. "Koloff greatest WWWF champion of all time!" LOL

  • @JonesyLedZeppelin Remember that real well. Bruno held the title for 8 years before Ivan took it. New Yorkers were freaking out. LOL.

  • the russian bear he,s from canada tough dude

  • I watch him on TV when I was a kid and I'm surprise how well he aged well.

  • If you buy the interview, do they turn on Koloff's mike?

  • One of the most underrated heels in history, a true legend !

  • I can barely hear him. What kind of moron is setting up the interview and no mike on the guest?

  • i met him in goldsboro nc at lowes, he showed me his scar where golddust bit him

  • The "Commies" Nikita and Ivan Koloff are actually damn Yankees! LOL! These two dudes totally sold me on their accents. They could have been pretty good actors.

  • typical RF, can't even think to mic someone they're interviewing

  • Nikita Koloff never fooled me for a second that he was not Russian but up until 3 min. ago Ivan fooled me for 36yrs. I totally new he was Russian...I was wrong!!

  • @empibroo1 The same here. I completely thought that Ivan was Russian. I cant firggin believe it.

  • I met him at the Walmart in Ahoskie, NC around ten years ago. Real nice guy.

  • LOL Koloff got schooled so badly by Patterson.

  • Ivan Koloff = Awesome

  • I named my Russian Trophy Boar Nikita Koloff and made a 4 min video of Nikita vs Magnum TA/Dusty Rhodes/Flair promos and hog attacks mixed together. Click my username. If I kill another Russian Trophy Boar i will name him Ivan Koloff, get the taxidermist to mount him and make another video.

Nikita Koloff - 200lb Russian Trophy Boar and Wrestler - The Russian Nightmare Tag Team

and... I bought some Jim Ross bbq sauce (original) to eat my Nikita Koloff with. Seriously.

  • I met Ivan at a wal mart in North Carolina lol

  • Awesome. Much love for The Russian Bear. Hail Ivan Koloff.

  • lol some people really thought he was russian haha

  • WOW, so strange to hear Ivan talk w/out the accent.

  • @CadillacL This blows my mind to.. I was able to see Ivan in person a long time ago.. I think I owe him an apology for the words I said..

  • @jimmydcap & when I heard Nikita w/his regular voice, it TOTALLY messed my mind up.

  • Hey, where is the Russian accent? Hes spent too much time in America.

    LOL.

(before someone says anything-yes i know he really wasnt Russian).

  • A lot of these old time wrestlers took a big heel turn and all became jesus freaks. So sad!

  • nothing wrong with being a Jesus freak as you put it

  • @AlabamaTeddy Yea, they enjoy the storylines on Earth as well as the storylines in "heaven".

  • Actually, there is. Especially when you've done your research and realize he never existed...

  • you cant prove to me that God never existed Jesus is alive

  • Wow, then you continue to choose to be yet another sheep.

  • not now i cant, but when you die you will find out.

  • your an idiot.

  • Most of the bad guys in wrestling are some of the nicest guys you can ever meet

  • @Speakup84 funny how the heels were such nice people outside and many faces were total assholes in real life.

  • I have always thought Ivan was one of the biggest, baddest guys in wrestling. In the 60's he was about 290lbs and was a true strongman. He still looks like he could press a small car! Thanks for the post!

  • Ivan was 5'8" and was around 283 pounds. I know him well. He was a great man outside the ring as well.

  • Ivan brawled with the Iron Sheik once on an aeroplane, Sheikybaby bit a chunk out of his neck!

  • Damn !!

I can't believe that wrestling was fake !!

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!

nothing better than old school 70's wrestling.

  • wrestling isn't fake asshole they do business but alot of the matches were real especially in the 70's.

  • old school MARK!!!! STFU

  • i'm not a MARK I'M RIGHT IVAN EVEN SAID SO!

  • and " THATS ALL THE PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW'

  • thats baron von raschske and yes he was a legit german this is ivan koloff!

  • @oldschool6804 yes I know, playing off old school wrestlers, and Jim Rashke is a resident of milwaukee, no accent either..DUH

  • rashke is german though!

  • his name is prob. Jim Smith from idaho or something

  • Ivan is a great guy, very kind, the first time we met him he treated us like family, my kids love him, my little daughter was calling him grandpa Ivan. turns out his real name is Jim. lol . he has come to visit local churches in our area before, and still gets in the ring sometimes to help make money for the united way., and free health care clinics.

  • Listen to this Russian pinko trying to sound like he's from North America! You can't fool me! You're the Russian Bear! You hate America! We're the good guys dammit! You got lucky with Bruno! You...YOU...YOOOOUUUU!!!!

Sorry. He made me believe thirty-five years ago & sometimes it's still real to me, dammit.

  • @BrickhouseB2 "The Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff real name is Oreal Perras who was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Debut in pro wrestling in February 1965 and he retired in September 0f 1994.

  • @JonDoe70 Yes, I know. I've met him. I used to hang out at Gorilla Monsoon's house in Willingboro, NJ as a kid...we were neighbors. I met a few legends when I was a kid and they were all great to me. I'd watch them every Saturday morning trying to kill each other on TV & then I'd see them at the Marella house on Sunday's (or any day) in the summer, swimming in Gorilla's backyard pool. It was a great way to grow up "smart" to the business without ever having to be told

    I was just kidding B4.

  • @BrickhouseB2 ; He's a little bit before my time. By the time I came into wrestling good he was on the tail-end. For me it was Nikolai Volkoff that was the sign of the 'hated' Russian menace. But he actually is from Lituania (spelling) so that is close enough. I don't think Ivan Koloff is really Russian. Not sure. I know Nikita Koloff wasn't. He's a normal American guy. Had to be tough to portray those characters back then.

  • @BrickhouseB2 bruno and him were pretty close but they worked very stiff.

  • WOW! Ivan, w/out the accent...too weird.

  • he's not russian ether OMG my whole life is a lie!

    W

  • Great mic technique! Nice to have the interviewer at 10, and Ivan Koloff at about a 4. Way to go, dickweed!

  • I always liked Ivan Koloff as a wrestler. He made me want to root for the heel.

  • coolest guy you'll meet

  • So strange to hear him talking without the Russian accent! (Yes, I know he's from Canada)

  • I agree and yeah he is from Canada but I agree it's so crazy to hear him w/o the accent lol

  • Ivan and Dick the Bruiser has some really great matches, very physical.

  • Ivan Koloff may be a beast in the ring, but out of the ring, he is a class act.

  • Please post the whole interview..........

  • JESUS IS LORD! AMEN

  • I don't care much for Jesus, but if he works for you, then more power to ya.

  • Comment removed

  • thats a sweet fuckin sweatshirt

  • Funny that you use "F-KIN" to describe a Jesus sweatshirt. ;-)

  • He went Christian too, never knew that.

  • I spoke to Ivan at a match years ago. He was very nice and was a pleasure to talk to. He had no accent until he went into character for the matches. He didn't wrestle, but was a "special guest". He sold his daughters music and signed autographs. Class act all the way! It's hard to believe he this fellow was such a heel for all these years. I never saw him as a face, ever!

  • He actually did do a face turn sometime around 1988 if I remember correctly. I can't remember the exact circumstances that led to it,but I do remember that he reunited with Nikita, and it was kind of a big deal at the time.

  • Wow, so weird to hear Ivan Koloff talk without his Russian accent. It really is odd to hear a different voice come from him.

  • I agree! In my opinion, the same can be said for Ivan's "nephew," Nikita Koloff.

  • Both him and Nikita are 2 of the most nicest guys you'll ever meet. Class acts and men of God

  • i am a big fan of ivan koloff.

  • Ivan could have done some good character acting with that Russian accent of his. It wasn't until the Internet broke big that I found out he wasn't Russian.

  • Back in his prime he was freaking giant. One of the first wrestlers with the large build, and to put on the hard hitting high impact style. It was a huge change for Vince Sr. to have a non shooter win the strap. Koloff was well respected, and one of my favorites growing up. Today I have much more respect for him as he gives so much back to the fans. Stand up guy.

  • I met Ivan at an autograph signing a couple years ago and he was honestly one of the most down to earth gentleman I've ever met. A real classy guy

  • Ivan Koloff seems like such a cool guy! Loved watching him back in the day!

  • uncle ivan!

  • he in my uncle too.. his first wife Vicky is my Aunt

  • tell these goofs that wrestling isn't entirely fake i'm sure ivan has told you about matches where the guys were shooting.

  • why didn't he use his russian accent?? it would have been cool if he did.

  • I met Ivan a year or so ago, let me say this, Ivan is the real deal, he has a heart of gold, he treated my kids like they were his grand children. he also gose to churches and talks about his life and how God has blessed him.

  • JESUS IS LORD!!!!!!

  • AMEN!!!!!!!!!

  • @raidernation7878 says who?

  • @raidernation7878 Sing it brotha/sista!!!!!

  • @raidernation7878

lol, dont be such a mark

  • @bettydaw1970 and "Ivan" is from Canada. lol

  • Nice shirt

  • I'm young, not afraid of dying, and a Christian. If you actually have a substantive argument for whatever position you're promoting (seemingly whiny boy cynicism), state it. If not, put the self-righteous card back in the bin.

  • He has NOT been bad--unless Boris Karloff was bad for playing Frankenstein.

This man created--and inhabited--a great character who gave enormous pleasure to hundreds of thousands--or millions-- of people.

As a kid I greatly enjoyed the encounters between Bruno Sammartino and Ivan Koloff.

I have no reason to wish them anything but happiness.

  • so does that mean a former whoremonger/liar like shawn michaels doesn't get a 2nd chance either? give me a break will you?

  • Fabulous.

I never doubted that he was Russian!

  • he was the russian bear best out there

  • So funny hearing him in his real-life accent.

  • What a great wrestler. He lasted for sooo long.

  • should be in the wwe hall of fame if he isnt already

  • nah, he should be in a REAL traditional wrestling hall of fame, which wwe does not have or will ever have

  • @thebeautifulman69 Him and his nephew....
