  • how do u this? because i download this program but now i dont get how to use my numpad with it ;OOO please send me a pm or something ?

  • Not a MIDI Controller, I bet it doesn't show up as a MIDI Controller. All it does is convert keystrokes in to midi signals which is what Ableton already does for the qwerty keys, only it doesn't do anything for the number pad, so yet this is useful it's not a midi device. More so a MAX Plugin to allow extra keystrokes to midi conversions.

  • you can use the same technique to build a foot controller using an old usb keyboard for starting and stopping and recording loops live

  • i wonder if a phone connected with a usb would work ?

  • IT'S A KEYBOARD!!! HE DIDN'T BUILD ANYTHING!! you idiots need to stop flapping your mouth and learn some intuition!

  • can you make tutorial how to build this?

  • @CristalBeats good idea, thanks. i'll do a broad "how to turn anything into midi using max" in the future.

  • @zealtv PLZ i would greatly appreciate!!!!

  • I was wondering if this was possible...Only because I'm out of money and this seems like a good substitute :)

  • bullshit , how about we load up cake walk express in windows 98 and open a new rock quartet midi template.

    1. click on the drum track

    2. click on tools

    3. click on virtual piano

    4. press the z key on your already connected PC keyboard to hear the kick drum

  • lol i like how you have JUST a numpad. whered you get it? looks like itd be cool if i jus took the motherboard out and soldered some wires to new buttons

  • can you use a keyboard with a number pad?

  • @dacedi1 yep

  • the only diy part of this is reprogramming the buttons, and you can do that with traktor, controller programming software comes with it

  • Ever thought about using a metronome? :P

  • Can I do this on Fruity Loops ?!

  • @maurosams yep.

  • @zealtv how can i do this on fruity loops?

  • @fleischvswurst I'm not familiar with the fruity loops software but assuming there is some sort of equivalent to ableton's drumracks you can use this patch to output midi which you then select as your input in fruity loops. If you're on a mac, keep an eye on my blog as i'll be releasing a similar but more powerful tool in the next day or two.

  • @zealtv Dude...

please make a tutorial to know how to control samples with that...

    Because how i can see...

yo shoot the kicks and snares...

    and not just the clips...

    Please...

    THX

  • Where do u get these number pads?

  • @gumdrops27 ebay

  • do i need mijoy for this or midiyoke?

  • @zildjiansabian if you're on windows then yes, you'll need some sort of virtual midi loop. i use loopbe.

  • @zealtv i thought it's plug and play. in loopbe does it have some configurations to do?

  • @zildjiansabian nup, no configuration. just select loopbe as output for keybeatz and input for whatever other software you're using.

  • @zealtv ok tnx i guess loopbe will work with fl studio right? this is a great alternative for mpd and mpc. thanks for responding!

  • @zildjiansabian it will work fine with fl studio. it's no mpc but is cheap and fun.

  • @zealtv

Does it allow you to map the functions of each button?

  • @gumdrops27 all the mapping is handled by ableton.

  • @zealtv

Do you know of any software that will convert the number commands to midi commands so i can use it for FL studio? I don't think it would work with fl alone.

  • @gumdrops27

the patch in the video should do the job as it is spitting out midi.

if it doesn't and if you're on win have a google for "keystroke to midi". on mac, unfortunately at the moment there's not much out there.

  • What drum kit is that?

  • @timmytapeworm13 it's samples of clapping and stomping in a live sounding room recorded through my laptop mic.

  • @timmytapeworm13 cool I like how it sounds.

  • @timmytapeworm13 how it sounds ? is dsnt sound like anything it controls the sound through midi ! theres no built in sounds ???

  • @montyladd I'm talking about the drum kit Dingle Berry, not the controller. Silly Pants!

  • @LieCheatStealKill hahaha silly pants ! wat age are ye ?

  • Your a queen man damn :D

  • SO AWESOME

  • Went to your site, Clicked the here link and it sent me to zealousyWent to your site, Clicked the here link and it sent me here zealousydotcom/patches/keybeatz.maxpat

I dont know about you guys but it just gave me a bunch of html looking stuff

  • @tdralle115 try right click - save as

  • @zealtv It wants to save as a text document? >.>

  • @zealtv or is that what goes into the max 5 runtime?

  • @tdralle115 yep, it is what is opened by max. it's cool if it saves as a text doc just make sure the file ends with .maxpat

  • @zealtv Alright my apologies, thanks for the quick response + subscribe :p

  • is there a way i can map this with traktor pro???

  • @AlexTechhh not sure but should be possible. this just spits out midi.

  • @zealtv but where do i download like the software and how do i assign sounds and stuff?

  • @AlexTechhh there's a link to the drum pad software above. all that does is convert the keystrokes to midi that another piece of software then reads and spits out sound. assigning samples etc depends entirely on what software you're using. i'm not familiar with traktor pro so can't help you there.

  • can i use it on fl studio?

  • @BeastBeatzProduction it's just spitting out midi. works with anything.

  • i like the song. got a link?

  • @slyman928 thanks. check out zeal(dot)bandcamp(dot)com

    the track's called vigilante.

  • But it isn't sensitive....or is it?

  • @MaiconOX nup, no velocity.

  • Lose the reverb on those cardboard boxes

  • ableton doesnt already have a button/toggle that you select to use the keyboard for midi notes?

  • thanks for this man, but why isnt the download link working?

  • @nughaga link updated.

  • dude its responsive? real time?

  • @alexandermango yep, latency's pretty good. between 5 and 10ms.

  • dude u can do the fucking thing on your keyboard....

  • @x1expert1x yep, you sure can. i wanted to use a number pad though... so i did.

  • i been using a old 9019urf strapped around my neck . latency shcmatency

  • @zealtv doesnt every keyboard have a numberpad?

  • Superb....

Can you please send the code and schematic for this circuit. i'm also working on a similar project.

    Thanks in advanvce..

  • @rubanswebsite No hardware mods involved, just software. It's a max patch hosted on my site - check the link above - if you want to have a play with it.

  • Superb....

Can you please send the code and schematic for this circuit. i'm also working on a similar project.

    Thanks in advanvce..

  • does it work whit tracktor?

  • @OBOSUSUA yep, works with anything that eats midi.

  • @zealtv tnks a lot for the info,i didnt try it yet but i'll need the patch, right?

  • So could you open this and put the key sensor... hmm

  • @poopyscoopy5 yep, you could hook the keys up to any sort of switch or sensor. it won't be velocity sensitive but will work. search the ableton forum for qwerty foot controller...

  • @zealtv

DO you have a link to one that is velocity sensitive? I have been looking around but the best I have found is Drumagog with multiple microphones.

  • @poopyscoopy5 I have seen a demo of a velocity sensitive qwerty keyboard but they're not in common production. If you want velocity sensitivity get a nanopad or something.

  • that would have a fair amount of lag wouldnt it? i know when i use my qwerty tapping out beats i get a shitload of latency

  • @harrychristner latency differs from system to system but qwerty isn't any slower than other midi devices.. i've got it down to 11ms which feels fine. if you're using ableton there's some good info in the manual about optimising your midi settings.

  • yeah but what kind of keypad is it from, What is the output,, is it USB?

  • @OrganicTrichome yes, usb. have a search on ebay, there are thousands of them. any keypad should work.

  • Hey man thats cool and if its that cheap and easy im interested!! So how exactly did you turn your calculator into a MIDI controller,,, Do you have a link to any info?

  • @OrganicTrichome have a look in the more info box below the video ;P

  • Can it be used in Garageband?

It's be cool to build a rack with pads and make a drum kit.

  • @BeProductions1000 yep, it'll work with garage band. it's jsut putting out midi so it'll work with anything. re drum pads - google diy drum trigger - cheap + easy :D

  • could I turn it into a sampler and assign samples to each key?

  • @GuitarEchoes sure can, it's just puting out midi so you can do what ever with it.

  • Do u noe if its possible to assign buttons as a controller for vitual dj?? Can sum1 help me?!?!

  • @ThugLifePr0ductions Not too familiar with virtual dj but if it doesn't have a key mapping function you could google for a qwerty to midi converter and then use the midi map function.

  • @zealtv Thnx alot!:)

  • @zealtv this patch you gave me gives out notes that are too low for live to use in impulse drum thing.

  • @InvizionsStudios its made for drum racks. but you can just drop abletons midi pitch plug before your impulse and adjust to taste.

  • @zealtv I've actually just edited the patch with my own midi signals after figuring out how to use max a little bit. I see that you are using some keys to move up and down on patches and triggering them, how are you linking the midi output to do that? when I try, I get nothing because I lose focus so ableton doesn't recognize my input.

  • hows the latency? i know when i used to use my keyboard for the piano roll on fl it was laggy as fuck but as soon as i got a real controller it was fine...is it the same way?

  • @darkinertia2 latency varies from system to system. depending on whether your bottleneck's in ableton's keystroke to midi crunching or the keyboard itself this might be faster.

  • with a better bass drum sound that would sound amazing :D

  • im pretty new to this, and this is great!!! but when i select the ableton window it simply takes control of my numpad again. so i dont get midi messages from it. i expect im missing something important. can anyone help me? im on mac btw.

  • @gix10000 yeah, it's just a quirk of max, you need to have the patch active to generate midi. command + tab is your friend :)

  • @zealtv shit that sucks...

  • @gix10000 yep, bit of an annoying quirk. turning it into a max for live patch should fix that.... i'm on it.

  • @zealtv GOOD MAN!!!! id do it myself but i only started learning max yesterday haha

  • hi, i installed all the stuff but can't make it work on ableton live. What am i missing? maybe the midi config in libe is wrong. How did you setup that? pleaaase heeelp

  • @hectorbacan2008 hey, yep that might be the case. if you're on windows you need to make sure you've got loopbe installed.

in the patch double click noteout and select loopbe (win) or IAC(mac)

then in live pref/midi set either loopbe or IAC to "track" and "remote".

then when you hit notes on the keypad you should get a little yellow square light up in the top right corner of live letting you know you've got midi coming in.

  • @zealtv didnt worked :( i followed all your steps but live still doesnt recognize the numpad as a midi device trough loopbe. It only work as a keyboard. No yellow square :( .

  • @zealtv hey, i found out that if i let the patch on top it works, but if i open other windows or try to do something on the live window it stops sending midi. Also it only works when the num lock is on. Thanks for this patch, i will try to do something with this stuff!!

  • @hectorbacan2008 great, yep you had me stumped but i remember now that it will only work if max is the active app. thanks, glad you got it working. let me know if you post a vid!

  • i never thought i would find a video about this. been searching around for about 20 minutes for a video like this. i just bought a ihome key pad today. i thought i was going to be the first to do this, kinda. lol...i should have known better thinking i would be first. but i can only map out 3 keys on ableton with it. please help me figure this out.

  • @7thcity yeah, the problem i had was i couldn't keymap the drum racks preview button. this is using a max patch to convert keystrokes to midi which are then eaten by ableton and drumracks in the usual way. follow the link in the info above to get the patch if you want to give it a try.

  • awsome !

  • whooow ive thought of doing this.but then it was just a theory. now ive seen it done. damn! cheers mate! now i know its possible. how did you do this man? do you have and idiots guide for this?

  • @balot912 heya, it's done using a simple max/msp patch that converts keystrokes to midi. i've uploaded the patch to zealousy (dot) com and have linked to the other software you might need to get it going.

  • @zealtv thanks man ill prolly give it a go.but first gonna get me a silicon keypad. thanks again

  • thank u thank u thank u!!!...love u dude!..this is what ive always wanted!!..nice vid, and a clever way to improvise using more affordable product...can u pls send me whats needed on the software side for doing this..then i think ill be buying loads of qwerty keyboards..then spending months saving hundreds for a small midi trigger...i hope u reply..thanks again..

  • @nn8nn you've got mail

  • @zealtv msg replied (computer voice)..hahaha

  • thats funny man

  • i would really like to get one can you tell me where to buy one of them and the patches i need to use i live in sydney i heard ur accent so i shold be able to get the same stuff as you so please help me thanks by the way ur pretty cool with these stuff oh and if its a mid u can use to control traktor right?

  • @JayDmusicproductions yep, it just puts out midi so will play happily with traktor. I'll send you a PM re getting hold of the patch. you'll also need the max/msp runtime from cycling74 (dot) com

  • does anybody know how you do this with fl studio? It looks like you can only use your normal keyboard (just letters a-z) for midi-input...

  • Comment removed

  • I used DAccord Drums Player 1.0 with pc keyboard.

This soft has minimal hardware requirements and it's absolutely without delay.

  • What the name of this program?

  • it's a patch built in max/msp. if you'd like to try it let me know. you can run it with the (free) max runtime from cycling74 (dot) com

  • @zealtv Can you send me this patch?

    P.S.: Sorry my english...

  • ableton live

  • nice video

where can I get the prgramm?

  • kewl

  • Will pressing keys on your regular keyboard on the computer also end up triggering the samples?

  • with this particular patch yes, another keypad would trigger the same samples. i'm using this on my laptop which has no keypad though...
