  • I actually found belly dancing easier to do on high heels. Its strange but its MUCH easier than just standing flat on my feet.

    ur right, even if you are "really chunk" u still have the muscles u need under there...I read once that in the Ottoman Empire one way to say a woman was gorgeous was to say that she could barely fit thru the door!

  • I too am having a difficulty with the chest movement. For some reason my belly moves out and in with my chest but it is not supposed to. I think we need more practice. Just that. Don't expect yourself to learn everything from the first time. Good luck.

  • This is a folk dance and in the middle east both sexes dance. you should watch some male belly dancers on you tube. Though their dance is slightly more masculine and playful It's the same dance. In the west, belly dance has been popularized by women you see more women than men dancing. but yes, men can and do belly dance. Try searching "tito, belly dancer" on you tube, he's one of the greats.

  • ok, I'm confused with hip snaps from left to right, do your feet stay flat on the ground, or do you raise your heel slightly?

    I have been watching other videos and see them doing it both ways???

  • i think you have to keep them flat but im guessing its easier if you have the heel up a bit

  • Shimmies are all in the knees! All you're doing is moving your knees. Keep your butt loose, it just goes along for the ride. Your glutes should be totally relaxed.

  • okay its not the hips just move ur knees bac n forth...because when u have on the skirt it looks like ur hips r moving

  • Stand still and move your knees back and forth.(Really fast and dont move)

  • The more you practice the better you'll be. Fluid moves like undulations, mayas, taxims will always require lots of drilling to maintain the fine muscle control.
