Finally someone with some sense...I agree...Lang Lang has no idea what he's doing. A good pianist with tremendous skill, yes. All of those exaggerated mannerisms however are NOT needed. I'm sure I'll get flamed for something like this. Yea, I've played the piano for 5 years now. I'll be posting my own videos sometime in the coming weeks just to prove "I actually can play."

You don't have to prove you can play for your comments to be perfectly valid--which they are. This is awful, ugly, overcaffeinated, mannered and thoroughly forgettable playing, only meant to "epater les bougeois." Which it certainly does.

To day i took some time to watch her and i was really impressed by her musicality and her very good technique. Very clear prhasing and her choices of speed are very intelligent. On the other side for me, Yundi Li is a very media pianist if not mediocre ( of course far better as musician then LA BESTIA lang lang)

I honestly think this sounds like he is hitting the piano way too hard, and hasn't mastered what he's playing. Seems like he is using too much dampar pedal, is slightly out of control and going to fast/forcing. For example, watch at 25 seconds, 57 seconds (ESPECIALLY 1:10, JEEZ), and 2:13, the piano goes through a transition into this horrid banging crashing noise like I've never heard before. Trying to do things he can't? having a bad day?

Everybody has their own style. That is all. If you complain about Lang Lang, try getting number 1 in every piano competition, not the minor ones, the ones like the Tchaikovsky piano competition, then complain, you guys know seriously nothing about his style.
i like his playing but i kinda wish sometimes he didn't move so much... it's good to be loose & get into the music, but i think he overdoes it sometimes and it gets distracting

for ex., I find Lang Lang's performance of Hung Rhap No. 2 to be the most focused and most music of all the performances I've heard, I dare to say it surpasses Horowitz's own recording of his own transcription. Lang Lang's temperament is great for Liszt pieces.
Maybe i just can't stand his facial expression. it's like his face is trying to tell you what he's about to do. that's pretty fake to me. i enjoy piano dynamic ranges very much being a tech myself. his playing was very rough at time sound wise. maybe's just the recording. I do have many of his CD tho. when he goes crazy, they all sound rough. maybe a nicely voiced NY Steinway will cure him..ha ha. then again, the way he bangs, i don't think so...

Haha, very nice performance, funny and counter-meticulous, Lang Lang! You're in your element when you go mad, I like it! You need quite some guts to play liszt like that! I saw him live, he's quite a performer like the stage virtuozo were in the 1850s. Thumbs up!

he does have his point and soul.
the Nocturne composed by Chopin which he played is great,and so dose the "Live at carmegie hall" which composed by Liszt.
but the sonata K330 he played I do not agree to.
I hope that you can listen to his plays more, then appraise him.:)

OMG!!! he seems like a mad dog banging piano on the stage!! I prefer Arcadi Volodos's playing n interpretation. Volodos has clear playing and full of flame when he is playing this h.rhapsody 2. In contrast, lang lang is g66d in creating sound pollution!! I feel like vomiting when i listen to his playing.. DAMN!!

I honestly think this sounds like he is hitting the piano way too hard, and hasn't mastered what he's playing. Seems like he is using too much dampar pedal, is slightly out of control and going to fast/forcing. For example, watch at 25 seconds, 57 seconds (ESPECIALLY 1:10, JEEZ), and 2:13, the piano goes through a transition into this horrid banging crashing noise like I've never heard before. Trying to do things he can't? having a bad day?

Everybody has their own style. That is all. If you complain about Lang Lang, try getting number 1 in every piano competition, not the minor ones, the ones like the Tchaikovsky piano competition, then complain, you guys know seriously nothing about his style.

as for me, i feel w/e tempo he chose for this seems apt, I can't imagine it any slower; some say it detracts from the music, but not when the tempo IS the music

If he plays 10 on the scale of 1 -10 all the time, then 10 doesn't mean anything no more.
I think he enjoyed his super speed/technique to much and forgot this is music, not a freak show (in a good way).
His head/hair shakings look fake to me and make me want to puke at times.
He'd be a great pianist if he starts to learn how to make music a bit.

but this these judgments are purely subjective
for ex., I find Lang Lang's performance of Hung Rhap No. 2 to be the most focused and most music of all the performances I've heard, I dare to say it surpasses Horowitz's own recording of his own transcription. Lang Lang's temperament is great for Liszt pieces.

Maybe i just can't stand his facial expression. it's like his face is trying to tell you what he's about to do. that's pretty fake to me. i enjoy piano dynamic ranges very much being a tech myself. his playing was very rough at time sound wise. maybe's just the recording. I do have many of his CD tho. when he goes crazy, they all sound rough. maybe a nicely voiced NY Steinway will cure him..ha ha. then again, the way he bangs, i don't think so...
