Many attempts have been made and every one of those countries has ended up with dictatorship. So I don’t think it’s an overstatement to say it has never worked and never will. "Native" Americans were a nomadic people which means they didn't have a national government, immigration laws, a national defense, etc. They probably didn't even understand what land ownership, citizenship, nationhood, etc meant.

Therefore, the migration of the early European settlers to America wasn't illegal as there was no nation-state in existence at the time and the people that were there were nomadic people so they didn't see them as owning the land.
