@tljkoap Not really, in kit form (I contemplated buying one) you can drop several engines in, some have 2ltr engines if you can't afford the big yank lumps. The chassis is designed for the Porsche box and Chevy short block ideally which is around 400 or so bhp...I'd guess this Ultima is running that. awesome cars for sure but the Clio is so much more fun.
That Ultima is just lovely. What a great car, and what a guy for just enjoying it on the track - he's already won the penis waving competition anyway!
This is a handy piece of driving, and it sounds like you've got a hell of a nice little track toy. And from a Yank and Iraq combat vet, I can tell you not all of us are as ignorant as others *cough* Rarez2! *cough*
If someone described doing this down the pub, I'd call them a liar to their face. The stripped out "cup" version of the clio is 2,226lb - the ultima is 2,183lb - with better weight distribution, better grip (have you *seen* those tyres?) etc - if the two cars had the exact same power and torque, the GTR should still eat the clio alive!
Either you're the Stig, or the GTR is being driven by a hamfisted wally. Or both.
Class. Now borrow his GTR and show him how it should be used.
The lap time on this vid is 1:50, Evo Mag managed in a 1:49.6 Leon Curpa R. 1:50 is perfectly feasible time for a track Clio with no engine work driven by somebody who is about as quick as the Evo test driver.
The Ultima should be going 10-20 seconds per lap quicker with a good driver in it. Given the Ultima is homebuilt and could have a crap set up it's feasible for an average driver to be 10-20 seconds slower in such a car than one who knows what they are doing.
I don't think he meant to suggest that 1:50 was infeasable, more that keeping up with an Ultima GTR in a clio *should* be next to impossible. Kudos to paulfisher478 - and a side note: fancy teaching me to drive like that, mate?
@LovingLord The Ultima Gtr is best handling sports car in the world. Driving by any good driver Ultima should be lapping Clio on every 3rd lap.
ULTIMA GTR720 PERFORMANCE STATS 0-60mph 2.6secs World Record 0-100mph 5.3secs World Record 30-70mph 1.8secs World Record 0-100mph-0 9.4secs World Record 100mph-0 3.6secs World Record Standing ¼ mile 9.9secs @143mph Top Speed 231mph (gearing limited) Skidpad (200ft) 1.176g World Record
@BHWatt Hmmm...quoting stats..and on the basis of your stats you say 'it's best handling car in the world' no it's not. Plain and simple. It has one great trick, it goes very fast and stops even faster. If the GTR was king it'd have the record at the Ring...a benchmark for performance. To drive a GTR at the limit you need balls bigger than any man alive as one mistake and you're in a world of pain.
Nice vid and good driving.. I am thinking about going to my first track day at Cadwell soon - I think I will go for a 'Novice' day though, especially on this evidence!
at 6:55min you can see a litle oversteer from the ultima.that means, the ultima is not so far from the limit.but a ultima is not so easy to drife in corners.and to crash a ultima cost maaaach mor than 2.500.- bugs :) ....but al it counts-you are faster
the ultima has street legal tyres??you has sliks?but anyway-you are the best driver on this trak.and a good machanik too-to now, what parts makes a car fast on trak.
The engine is a standard Clio 172 engine with no internal modifications,it has a straighth through exhaust and a performance air filter,so its only around 170bhp,its fitted with spax coil overs, and it has tarox front brake discs with carbone lorraine front brake pads.
I purchased this car off ebay last year for £1500,I then spent a further £1000 on the upgrades for the track ,all off ebay 2nd hand except the brake pads they were purchased new,so its just a cheap bit of trackday fun for me.
Fantastic buddy, what you have just shown is something that I did quite a few years ago in my old 16V Nova GSI. With the right suspension set up and the right brakes combined with a big engine in a hot hatch and some driving ability you can match much much more powerful cars out there on the track, all credit lad, join the club!
Nice Video Paul - (and Happy Birthday for last month!) there was some dodgy driving there from guys who thought they were much better than hey were...
Good vid Paul, best footage from outside my car I have seen. Must turn that fuel cut on overrun feature back on! Other interesting comments posted (as always)!
Actually, I'd rather be *in* the ultima, but since that's not likely anytime soon...

Teach me to drive like that!
I wanna be able to harass Ultima GTR owners in a FWD supermini too!

Ultima 640 = 640hp
Ultima 720 = 720hp
They usually have a chevrolet ls 7 liter engine installed.

If only the guy in the ultima had half the talent you do.
Little hatches are good at cadwell - same as any tightish circuit. The difference in pace between yours and that GTR the buy should be embarrased.

Does not sound that stock to me? when you say stock are you just talking about the engine? because your brakes cant be stock surely?
