I'd buy metal storm as soon as they can shoot 120mm tank rounds that fast.only question,, will dirt/sand screw with the electronic firing? only other advantage I can see conventional guns maintaining is adaptability, that is until metal storm makes interchangable rifle barrels that switch from bullets to grenades, other than that firing with conventional shells has the user reload after each shot, dunno how metal storm plans to switch out barrels in the middle of battle.

I've seen footage of the 40mm Metal Storm system being reloaded. Fire your three rounds, push the barrel forward and shove in three more (at the rear). Sort of like breech loading but with 3 rounds.

1 million rounds per minute would be for anti-material destruction of incoming missiles, torpedos, etc, where a "large volume of fire" is needed. In this case it would only be suitable for mounting onto a vehicle, as the recoil would be immense. For anti-personnel fire, a lower ROF would be required as the purpose of a machine gun is not to accurately snipe the enemy, but to lay down a beaten area, which keeps the enemies pinned down until fire teams can move in and destroy.

There's a line between a weapon and rediculous. Firing more than 900RPM is not needed. All it takes to kill a man is one round. Why would you EVER need to fire 3 million at one spot? It's not even like it's an arc of fire.

First man... Yes it is excessive but so are nuclear weapons, chemical weapons and incinedary rounds but they all got developed. The metalstorm system while really effective for more small calibre ammunitions is better off used as an ADS or Building Demo... It's just the natural progression, they want some that fires faster, with and straighter than a minigun, the speed is just one of the 'My gun is better than your gun" statements

If anything, you failed to notice that the grenades both came from the lower left barrel. If I'm right, you can load sever rounds per barrel and then select how many rounds to fire from which barrels.

metal storm is the name of the project that electronically fires anything from bullets, non leathal round grennades and even fire extinguishing cartridges. if i remember the highest rate of fire was 1 million rpm, but its an almighty quick burst, like an explosion.
