  • In 1917 George V declared that the family would be known in future as Windsor and not as Battenburg. This was to conceal the true German identity of the royal family. To this day 68.6% of England is still owned by 0.63% of the population, mostly royals and their cohorts also known as the aristocracy. Bow down to your German masters little Englanders

  • George V changed the name to Windsor from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, not Battenberg. And it was to downplay the family's German origins..after all they were all descended from George I, King of Hanover, Germany.

  • @bill1745 The accession of Elizabeth to the throne brought up the question of the name of the royal house. The Duke's uncle, Louis Mountbatten, advocated the name House of Mountbatten, as Elizabeth would typically have taken Philip's last name on marriage; however, when Queen Mary, Elizabeth's paternal grandmother, heard of this suggestion, she informed the British Prime Minister Winston Churchill,

  • @benjaminjean1984 who himself later advised the Queen to issue a royal proclamation declaring that the royal house was to remain known as the House of Windsor. The duke of Edinburgh adopted the surname of his British maternal grandparents, Mountbatten.
