  • Very well done. Very straight forward and easily understood.

  • excellent video,clear good quality,good tutor.thanks.

  • Hmm, if you're just learning fingerpicking, you're still a long ways off from playing Bensusan (referring to the clip at the end of the video).

  • Do you use nail polish? :o

  • omg look at those nails hahahahahahhaha

  • I don't think his nails are weird at all. He's got Robbie Krieger nails.

  • How can you increase your volume when finger picking? What suggestions do you have?

  • @swordforchrist pickup! and amp

  • 2:15 "us and them" ?

  • ARE YOU BY ANY CHANCE RELATED TO WOLVERINE?

  • Those are some intense fingernails for a man!!! omg!

  • @kristikrause Guitarists grow then on their right hand if they're righthanded, the other way around if they're lefthanded, obviously.

  • I checked out on youtube James Taylor Nails. He plays steel strings with his nails and has some very good tips that I use.

  • Thank you Rob for thinking about the viewer !! We can really see what each hand

is doing. Very few guitar lessons show this- very generous and

thoughtful of you to do this !

I 'm subscribed !!! Now I have somewhere to go to learn.... Cheers, Gk.

  • Hey dude, with fingerpicking I was wondering if it is a bad habit to rest my right pinky under the strings rather than keep it hovering above the 6th string etc.? I dont want to get into any bad habits!! Thanks!

  • @cudi2212 You mean resting it stretched? Yeah, that's a bad habit since all your fingers should be relaxed, keep it hovered, mate. It helps.

  • This is great but I must say it's really weird to see a grown man with long nails...kind of reminds me of a vampire lol.

  • i'd hate for him to scratch me

  • thanks dude!

  • Anybody know any tips to loosen up the fingers, I find it hard to arrange my fingers on the frets... I'm new to playing :P

  • hey,

i have a book recommendation for you:

    amazon.com/All-Guitar-Chords-Felix-Gerhardt/dp/3842359845/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1314593720&sr=1-2

  • Fretboard is so clean it's distracting :)

  • the tutorials are great for a seventy six yearold that is starting again after 58 years but that intro is awful - especially after fifteen or twenty watchings Thanks anway

  • very helpful

  • This is helpful! Clear instructions. Thanks!

  • how do you find the picking pattern of songs?

  • is the root note the note the thumb should be picking, if so, is the root note of the d chord not the g string, with the g string being the highest note of that chord ? or is it the other way, were the top 3 strings r used for you thumb no matter what chords u r playing, if so that makes sense, as the d chord would naturally be the d string for thumb, confuseddotcom lol will u send me a list of the strings my thumb should b hitting wile finger picking chords 2keep this kind of pattern please,

  • do U use a glue or something on your nails wile playing steel strings, I know they can snap easy when as long as yours.

  • is it possible to do it without disgusting finger nails?

  • @MrPinaka glue ons ftw, john butler rocks them

  • very nice man you have a very calm and easy voice, great work!

  • You add something to my soul every time you teach a new lesson.

  • this made me smile like a lunatic

  • your great! did it take a while for you to get that fast on the finger picking?

  • Maybe you can get a little inspiration from my new video. I was sick and couldn't sing, so I sat on the sofa and played a little guitar, only finger picking.

  • Beautiful pattern, but can't fit it to a vocal pattern! Could you do an addendum with a song using the same pattern?

  • listen to the acoustic version of "pardon me" by Incubus

  • if you dont already have these patterns in your head then i dont think you are going to learn easy.. at all

  • I tried fingerpicking for the first time and its not bad. I can't play it fast, but it sounds good

  • omg that sound cool

    thank you :D

  • thank you so much!

  • thanks

  • helps alot.. gives it more volume.

  • Thank you so much for this video! It's simple and easy and totally cool. I love it! Perfect for a beginner like me.

  • You are right man, with those nails, it sounds more bright than with fingertips!

    I'm gonna grow my eagle-claws !!! :-))

    Blessings,

    Charlie

  • @OpenHeavenFellowship Your nails don't need to be that long in order to get a bright attack. You just need about 1/8" of nail. This dude is obviously a classical (nylon string) guitarist... thus the super long and highly manicured, I'm guessing acrylic, nails.

  • @Hoopermazing Yours is the accurate explanation to those who are posting comments, wondering about fingernails and manicures. Among professionals, this is commonly the care taken in order to consistently play and achieve the proper tone/resonance from the string and the instrument.

  • @OpenHeavenFellowship hahahaha may the claw be with you...young padawan

  • brilliant, ive taught myself guitar since i was 16, now 22, and never bothered with fingerpicking cause i thought it was too hard, this has changed my mind i havent learnt anything new in years, this rocks!

  • ohh really helpfull thx

  • wonder what are te songs using this pattern ?? :O

  • What was the second chord he went to? with the c? I can't catch what he's saying.

  • its written at 0:15

  • Oh thanks:)

  • Cadd9 i think

  • wow you just made me sound really cool, thanks! :)

  • look at what he's teaching and never mind the nails...this guy's helped me alot !!

  • If I bite my fingernails on my right hand, is this going to be a waste to even think of trying?

  • Not at all. You don't need long nails to finger-pick. However, if you find it difficult, you could always try using thumb/finger picks instead... or just stop biting your nails :P

  • Oh, and there's always false nails too... If you're into that kind of thing :P

  • boah thx men that helps^^

  • thanks

  • I am trying to play with a pick into a habit of ONLY using my fingers :(( SHEZ

  • thankyou so much. helped me overcome a few bad techniques i have picked up from learning to play without guidance...
