  • i prefer russian british norwegian and swiss:P

  • @MrDip02 oh oh and finnish

  • Thanks so much for posting this vid! Love the classic rifle and would love to get one myself...and a Garand...someday maybe. Gotta say I do love my M1A...Springfield makes a great and accurate rifle! Do you know of a good source to acquire a M103...I mean M1903? Sorry...couldn't resist.

  • I am for the most part an understanding person when it comes to presentations. One or two minor mistakes are acceptable, but to constantly give the wrong identification to the subject is wrong.

The visuals are well done and the verbal presentation is easy on the ear, but the constant misidentification is a great distraction. It is for this reason I cannot give a thumbs up to an otherwise fine presentation.

  • Why does he call it the m103 a3

  • My grandmother has a A3 in her closet but someone has removed the entire front half of the wooden stock, you can see where it was roughly sawed off, i dont know who did it or why but i was wondering if i could fix this?

  • It's soooo much fun to fire one of these on a line with other rifles. Heads turn around and you can see guys going 'what the heck was that'??! I have an all original M1 version of the 1903 that is in excellent shape and so much fun to shoot. Great vid, and that rifle of yours is in beautiful shape.

  • the 09A3 wasn't just mechanically amazing, it was beautiful, especially so with the straight stock.

  • I picked up a Smith Corona M1903 at a farm auction in MO about 25 years ago. It was a great shooter but being that it was a wartime production rifle the receiver had all kinds of deep machine marks on it so it didn't look nearly as nice as the one in the video. I still wish I had it though.

  • Thats actually a m1903 and not an m1903A3 the A3 has a different stock.

  • I just refurbished a mosin nagent and this is next on list how much does a ok one cost

  • I love the gun sootch00. I inherited a 1903 A3 Remington which s very similar and I love it. Not the gun I shoot every weekend but man is it a treat to fire ever once in a while!

  • pretty weapon

  • Queria ter um desses, para praticar tiro ao alvo.

  • my dad was a sniper for a shot time and that was the gun he used

  • @tarboy69 which year was your dad a sniper??

    thanks!

  • @rammsteinlover1337 as i recall he was a sniper in 1944 after his teams sniper was killed he only did it for around 3-6 months hes was in italy and north afraica he died from cancer in 1990

  • Heavy... but durable

  • Nothing better than U.S military history? PFFFT HAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAhAHHAhAHAHHA.

The United States of America does not even have 250 years of history that you can look into. Compare that to Europe's over 3000 year old military history.

    Nice video though!

  • @LuciusCorneliusMacro Fuck off dude. someones a little jealous that their socialist piece of shit country doesn't allow assault rifles or guns.

  • @LuciusCorneliusMacro He wasnt talking about socialist europe either fucker, He was talking about the good ol U.S of A!!!!!!!!!!! ass hole.

  • @LiberalsArePigs

Shut the fuck up. Do not talk about a subject you don't know anything about. Try calling the Roman Empire socialist. You can't do it, you'll see.

My country allows plenty of rifles and guns and we are fucking far from socialist. If you didn't have your heasd so far up your ass you'd know that few countries in Europe are run by a socialist government.

    Grow up.

  • @LuciusCorneliusMacro You grow up, don't go on someone else s video trashing their country you prick.

  • @LiberalsArePigs I didn't you fucking dumbass. I jsut pointed out that the U.S barely have any history compared to Europe or Asia. You however started trashing about Europe.

  • @LuciusCorneliusMacro I don't know where you're from, but you obviously have a problem relating to Americans. I can appreciate that you speak the universal language and I'm glad we can communicate. But your problem is that you're a prick. Why did you begin this argument with the fact that the US only has a short history? In that 235 years, we've kicked some serious ass. Probably your country along the way. What the fuck does the Roman Empire have to do with this any way?

  • @LiberalsArePigs

No, the United States never kicked Swedens ass. I do not even believe that our 2 countries even been at war. One thing that is for sure though is that there were some periods when Sweden would have kicked some U.S ass, and vice versa.

When I brought up the Roman Empire I brought it up as European history, and the Roman Empire was as far from Socialist you can get.

I've got no problems with Americans, my father was American. I do however got some problem with -

  • @LiberalsArePigs

    - dumbasses, no matter where they're from.

    Merry Christmas! :D

  • lol dont talk at port arms jk thats a fucked up port arms lol

  • I only know one better old rifle the German M98 / K98K

  • I love the Texas accent at the end! Lol.

  • Don't worry bout the screw ups, man. Doesn't matter as long as you know what your talking about as well as make everyone else know what your talking about, which you did flawlessly. Great review sir.

  • Order a Winchester 1903A3 and luckily got one (Oct 1943 manufacture per Serial on CMP estore) . 1000's more orders then they had of course. It's arriving tomorrow. Figures I'd watch your review again as I wait for the Fed Ex man in the morning ;)

  • Drill Team Rifle :P

  • you ended it well, that's what counts :)

  • To me, a good old surplus rifle looks far better than a tricked out AR.

  • If you guys would like to have a wall hanger, Southern Ohio Gun Dist have some deactived 1903a3 Remingtons & Smith Coronas for less than $200 shipped. Front sight was removed to allow access to the barrel/receiver to plug the barrel, firing pin hole welded on the bolt face and the magazine cutoff spot welded. It was ashamed this was done to these rifles by our government when we were the ones who paid for them. They do look great on a guys wall.

  • When did culture change and 8 and a half pound became "heavy" for a rifle? All my military rifles weigh around 9 pounds. My Garand Weights 10 pounds! 8 and a half is light!

  • @MichaelBakowski carry an 8 lb. rifle up a fricken mountain called the REAPER.....lolz ..it wont feel so light after a while...

  • hmm.....interesting

  • The germans must have been particularly angry when they were being fired upon by americans with rifles based off their designs haha.

  • No offense taken, Sir! I AM German and I DO LOVE this goddam rifle! In fact, I also own a Remington 03-A3 since March 2011. They're extremely scarce, expensive, but highly regarded for rifle competition calling for vintage bolt-action military rifles.

  • Sootch I want one of these. I almost got jipped on one at a local Pawn Shop. I know the owner and I don't think he did it on purpose, but the rifle was a National Ordinance 1903. I'm no expert on these by any means, but I noticed the front sight had a small hood around it, not like ears on the side, but a small hood over it. The price tag said 599.00, but I think that is a bit overpriced for my taste. What do you think?

  • how much are these rifles like average price? it cost more thanthe mosin right?

  • @topguntin You can get one off aimsurplus, great place for mosins, at $800 dollars i believe

  • @topguntin every rifle costs more than a mosin.

  • I have restored my M1903A3. It is quite deadly on milk jugs at 100yards. My Dad loves to shoot it just as much as I do.

  • Love this rifle

  • Id be more afraid of getting hit by a 30.06 then any other common small arm caliber

  • Love the Springfiel like the K98

  • america is just as worthless as germany so dont go around trying to stir up controversy

  • @picaticatara AMERICA aint worthless you are you son of a bitch

  • @PolishedTurd4Life but it is just AS worthless

  • sootch00,

die letzten Sekunden Ihres Videos sind nicht sehr schön.

    Grüße aus Deutschland.

  • 30-06, Great for killing krauts and japs.

  • nothen better than US military history! Love that sootch

  • I want one so bad!

  • I dont give a shit who you are or what rifle you are using, no one cam accurately shoot at 2500 yards with open sights!

  • M103a3 (M1903a3)

  • what kind of groups can one expect from 100 yds?

  • Nice video!

My grandfather gave me his Santa Fe investment cast reciever M1903a3.

He bought it in the 1960's at ACE hardware for $30. There was a pickle barrel full of them. Killed his first deer with it. I've yet to shoot it, but I may this September.

Barrel is marked with a flaming bomb and RA 3-44 (March 1944).

Front swivel marked RS. Anyone know what that means?

Rear sight block is marked with a fancy "H".

  • well it didn't see service through out all of World War 1, saw service through out the last year or the war, plus the U.S utilised Enfield 1917 in the last year of conflict, but besides that good video, great looking rifle.

  • I've also got A Remington M1903A3, serial # 415XXXX. It has the sight hood and I highly suggest you get it one because it really improves the sight picture with the peep sight. Mine I think was rearsenaled at some point because for such a late serial # it does not have a crummy 2-groove "wartime" barrel (which I prefer since I consider this rifle a shoot first. I want to make a video (on a different account, this one sucks) but first I need to find a charger for my camera.

  • can it take a M7 knifle/ bayonet?

  • How much is one of this worth?

  • Whats the recoil on s Springfield?

  • It' is called the Magazine cut off. It's lever on the left side of the receiver that locks out the Magazine to fire single shot when in the defensive positions . It was used to snipe on the enemy to keep the magazine fully loaded so that when a charge came the trooper would change to the magazine and fjre on the charging troops.

    XR750

  • I wish to own one someday. A great example of an American Classic!!!

  • carried my dads 03 A3 in my patrol car for years to fill the void in dept issue armament. what a driver, good to see its not forgotten.

  • @Giann57Angelito Do you like the people who have leaked from my channel to your channel?

  • Good review overall, thanks for the info!

  • It's ashame that these replaced the krag.

I'm still waiting for someone to make a new production krag. By far my favorite bolt-action rifle design of all time.

  • I have a 1903a4 i inherited and i hate shooting it. It has a sport stock and modded to fit some custom scope which wont site correctly. plus ammo at $1 a round really sucks, and i cant feel my shoulder after 5 shots. So it just sits and maybe ill sell it when it turns 100.

  • I've got an heirloom Springfield NRA Sporter made in march 1927. Star gauge match grade barrel, match trigger, Lyman peep sights, and a period offset Weaver 3x scope so the Lyman sights can still be used with the scope still attached.

    As usual, great video!

  • sweet review sootch i really enjoyed it.

  • @dcdreamboat

With ease, thats how. If anything it shows that, yes indeed,he is just one of us regular guys.

I did a lot of cringing and alot of laughing myself but I found it refreshing to see that Sootch does not take himself TOO seriously.I am retentive all too often...and life needs humor! LOVE the bloopers at the ends of many of Sootch's videos!

    LONG LIVE TACTICAL FLIPFLOPS!!

  • Comment removed

  • What are your thoughts on the "low number" 1903's that are "unsafe" to shoot?

  • Maybe next time you can do a review of the M111 Gov't .45. lol, J/K. I'm laughing as I watch this, because I'm happy that I'm not the only one to have silly little brain farts!

Great review, though. A lot of great info about a great rifle. I have a Smith-Corona of the same rifle that I will do a review of next fall.

  • Where is the HPR ammo in this review?

  • M-1903 is the American version of the Gewehr 98 so many parts parts and features were copied from the G98 and were placed on the M-1903, Because Mauser didn't want to sell the rights to make the G98 in America, Mauser wanted to sue Springfield, But WW1 came along....the rest is history

  • Such an awesome gun. I am looking for a good example myself.

  • US military history is great but i think japanese military history is much more interesting

  • I heard when we were using these in WW1 we were still paying Mauser for using some of the patents in our rifle....ironic, enh?

  • I'm gonna let that M103 stuff slide. I know that you know that it's the M1903.

  • If you had that rifle in 103 A.D., you were the big kid on the block, LOL!!!

  • lol!!

great video and the ending was priceless

  • Sootch, you need some stripper clips.

  • Sootch, How much would that Springfield go for? Do you know the average gun show price? I'd like to buy one. Thanks for the video. wtr7

  • MSRP? or did i miss that?

  • Beautiful rifle.

  • What a truly beautiful rifle. I love it.

  • That's a lot of recoil it seems like...

  • Awesome review of the 1903'. BTW, the used of the cartridge blocker was to allow the operator to mount a grenade cup to launch genade using a blank round. Boy i'd love to have one these in my collection

  • It's interesting how the U.S. Army never dropped the magazine lock from the M1903, although the Germans and British dropped theirs from the K98 and Lee-Enfield, respectively. The magazine lock was a byproduct from an earlier era, when soldiers only loaded single rounds & fired on command and were supposed to carefully select individual targets (with the full magazine in reserve for emergencies). After WWI, most nations dropped the feature as outdated in the face of trench warfare.

  • I guess the only thing worse then recognizing that you've made a mistake is to have it constantly pointed out to you, even after annotating that you recognize the mistake.

Speaking of which! Did you know it's actually called a...

  • I'll bet you could not get the model right even if you tried to completely record a new video...LOL. It's like people trying not to call Osama Obama after he got capped. Everyone was messing up the names.

  • That rear peep would have to be around 3 or 4 inches tall to sight that in at 2500 yards.

  • Yep I got one early WWII update, the m103 thing don't feel bad happens to the best of us.

Mine has a warn out magazine and was a part gun other than barrel and bolt, I still love it magnificent rifle.

As good for hunting as it was for war in the right hands deadly accurate out to a mile is the moto.

  • Haha I got to say I was laughing every time I heard M103. It was like 10 times!

  • @cobrar85 It's like I was brain dead.... I cringed everytime I said it again after watching it.

  • @sootch00 Calling it M1903A3 every time gotta be hard too. Why not to call A3 or springfiled rifle?

  • good

  • Change the background next time

  • I love Us military history too, sadly I can not yet afford a real M1903. I have the mosin nagants, and a REAL Nazi 98K Mauser I got it from a guy who just had to have cash, I got lucky on that one. Just knowing that the rifle in my hands ACTUALLY had been used in WWII is enough to conjure up all sorts of thoughts since all of my male grandparent aged men in my family were in WW2 in some way, My grandfather was a medic in France, his brother a rifleman in the same platoon. They fought together.

  • M1903A3 gonna hear that in my nightmares!!!!!!

  • Good review! Thanks for posting. Keep up the good work and keep sharing the knowledge!!!

  • 2500 yards I never heard of it shooting that far I shoot mine alot I own 2 and i never shoot that far its lucky it can hit the 8to 9 ring at a 800 to a 1000 yads,I have been shooting them for 17 years If ant one can make a hit at 2500 yds call me.

  • That is one of the coolest safetys I've ever seen!

  • I want one of these so bad =) Love it!

  • I own a sporterized version and a WW1 baynet for it.

  • Hey could u send me a pic of the green G-Code holster with a stainless 1911 in it ??,I'm buying the holster and want to make sure it looks right.Thx

  • good vid. how much was your springfield?

  • Sootch, I can never find a bolt action rifle from WWII era, at least at gun shops. Should I try gun shows?

  • @BerettaFanatic You can buy them from the government troughs the Civilian Marksmanship Program. Type CMP on Google and it will come up. Same with Garands.

  • @BerettaFanatic Gun Show's are great for surplus rifles. Also GunBrokerdotcom or Gunsamericadotcom.

  • iv never seen one with the stopper that keeps the bolt from opening all the way i like that is that special or did i just not notice it on the ones i looked at

  • Great gun and review! I would love to own one of those.

  • You Americans are so lucky with the 2nd Amendment. I'd love to own a revolver or a rifle. Especially for self-defence but also because of the thrill of target practice. I would definitely buy a rifle from WWII. Beautiful piece of engineering with such a magnificent history.

  • Nice

  • ha yes i lov the selecter switch shirt ur wearing i so want one cuz non of my frends would no wat it is cuz non of my frends are real big gun people

  • There was an old saying about the Springfield 1903 30-06 " If you herd it go off then you already dead!".

  • that looks beautiful. how much on average would these run? if you know.

  • I like those sights. I wish they still made rifles like those.

  • Great review. There is alot of history in your hands.

  • It is the most human thing to do on the model. I am famous for meeting folks I really know and cannot get their name to come until I walk away.

  • Please make a review about the Swiss K31 !

I wonder what you would say about the Swiss Weapons.

I love my Langgewehr 11 ! (and yes, I am swiss)

    Your channel is genious

    Greetings HTH

  • I don't take offence because Springfield copied Mauser. :D

  • @sootch00

isnt that a M1903A3...HA HA HA ...LOL...LOVE YOUR STUFF Don...

  • love the reviews sootch but you made a mistake there... "nothing better than US military history" afraid there is, British military history ;-))

  • @THErunn1ngMAN Or even Canadian Military History

  • Probably the first high powered rifle I ever fire. My cousin had one back in the 70s when they sold for about 80 bucks...

  • A 30.06 at 2500 yards with iron sights, good luck!

  • M1903A3

  • 2500 yards, that I did not know, that is sick. Great rifle, I have had a couple over the years but not in as nice of shape as yours. Great review Don.

  • God Bless you! Great vid!

  • Hey sootch will you someday make a video about the german military surplus rifles, made by MAUSER? They made excellent rifles in the beginning 20th century, mauser sold their rifles all over the world.

  • Great video about a great gun. Military surplus rifles are always fun to shoot :D

  • great vid scourge.....i'll continue to watch your crap....what was with the crack girl on the last one?

    signed...your least enthusied watcher

  • Great gun vid ! thx for sharing

  • Great Video...cheers :-)

  • I remember when I first fired this gun as a kid. Favorite rifle so far, right next to the FAL.

  • That's a great video SOOCH! I LOVE my 03A3. It's got a 03A4 Leupold mount added to it, and a nice 10x scope, it'll drive nails. Good Job!

  • Hah, only 1 locking lug

  • The M1903 wasn't born from American innovation... it was born from Mauser Werke. Springfield copied and barely changed the Mauser design.

  • Sorry for saying M103 over and over.... I know it's a M1903A3. Lol!

  • @sootch00 Love the little "quarks" if you will with the using the wrong model number :) I tend to do similar stuff in my videos unknowingly too. It like your plan goes out the window when the buzzer goes off at the beginning of a stage in a shooting match. Keep up the good work!

  • @sootch00 Tomatoes Tomatoos

  • I have this same rifle. It needs a new barrel adn its good to go.

  • that rifle is pretty sexy.

  • Beautiful rifle sir!

  • Can I hunt with this?

  • @pyroman645 Yes, 30-06 is a great round for Deer.

  • @sootch00 I am German, and I do use it for deer! Great Rifle, love the bolt mechanism!

  • no offense . but im sticken with my 303 lee enfeild smle mk III . . the m1903a3 is a nice rifle . but the enfeild is a bit better

  • @ArrowSmith95 I'm working on a Lee-Enfield review coming up soon. I have a .308 Enfield and love it. Thanks.

  • @sootch00 yeh i have a 303 out in the country that i hunt and plink around with at the range up here . also , amazing video like always !

  • @sootch00 I have a .303 No 4 Mk. 1 that has been though hell and back, but it is still one of my better shooting rifles. I look forward to seeing yours. I am sure it is in better shame then mine, lol. Though the 1903 is a great rifle, the Enfield held twice as much ammo and was just as smooth. Why chose though when you can have both, lol.

  • @Jesses001 I agree. The M1903 is essentially a reverse-engineered Spanish Mauser and as such is beautifully made and highly accurate. The Lee-Enfield is more rugged and has a smoother action. The British proudly point out that by the height of WWII, a British Tommy could get off 30 accurate shots a minute, which is extremely impressive for a bolt action rifle firing stripper clips (especially considering that the British packed .303 in 5-rd clips for a 10-rd magazine).

  • @ArrowSmith95 I have to agree, won many a competitions with the SMLE, Never fired such an amazing rifle. I actually prefer bolt rifles over Semi-auto's for the better control and that you don't waste as much ammo. I like the ENfields sights.

  • @AntiBSGroup yeh . i love the feel of when you pull the bolt back, and you hear everything click into place . and just the fact that my great grandfather fought and lived using a Lee endfeild . i have the bayonet that he used too .104 years old now

  • @ArrowSmith95 You sure about that?

  • @jamoore3192 yeh im pretty sure . the Lee-Enfeild has a smoother bolt and it has more rounds in its mags ... that can be romoved.

  • @ArrowSmith95 LOL! Ok, I'll give it to you... If the doodoo hits the fan, the Enfield might keep you alive longer than the Remmington. I got both and I'll reach for neither to save my life (unless I have to). If you take both of them to range and do some shooting with them side by side its a different story. All I'm about over engineered rifles, but its tough to beat quality springfield action.

  • @jamoore3192 that's very true my friend . the springfeild action is a very tough thing to break .

  • @ArrowSmith95 most of the time its the shooter but i have to disagree and if you ask anyone who shoots surplus rifles most agree the 1903 takes the cake in accuracy, enfeild takes reliablity and fast action and k98 take durabilty.

  • @fatdan172501 that is true my friend . but I'm Canadian so i prefer the Canadian rifle lol

  • @ArrowSmith95 well that explains it lol. hey the m1 garand was made by a canadian and its one of the most accurate semi autos till this day so i understand the pride lol. my opinion is we would not be under armed with any of the rifles listed im sure you agree.

  • @fatdan172501 yeh . so i have herd . good old Canadian design . and i sure as hell agree . all these rifles ;the lee-enfeild ,k98,mousen nugant (messed that name up ),m1903 and m1 all of them and more are amazing and have set their place in history forever !

  • @ArrowSmith95 Right you are Sir.

  • @robin6512 for the most part i am. but there are differences throughout the 3 main bolt rifles of ww2 and 1 . if they could combine the k 98, lee-enfeild and m1903 .they would make a rifle that could beat any modern rifle hands down . ( that is bolt action of course )

  • @ArrowSmith95 having an k98, vc24 and LE long branch I really do agree with you.

Still I consider the LE as the gentleman rifle and very accurate, however my Swedisch mauser and Swiss 1911 are more accurate. And the S-mauser does not kick at all and is dead-on on 300 yrds(longest I shot it)
