  • madness song...i like it!!!

  • Funnily enough Napoleon Dynamite credits the wrong band! Patrick Street recorded their version but the movie used Penguin Cafe Orchestra's recording.

If you like this tune then you absolutely MUST check out Sharon Shannon's version - search for her Jools Holland performance of it. She plays a medley with another tune first

  • is it just me or does the pianist look like JGL with long hair

  • I've been addicted to this song for so long, I just love it!!! A million hits just from me :)

  • Pfft, you guys think Napoleon Dynamite; I think She's Having a Baby.

  • @CensiLuvsEmoRainbows Napoleon's having a baby?

Saw them earlier this year at Barbican and was blown away :)

  • I love the Mundi version of this song. Penguin Cafe Orchestra is just amazing.

  • pedro? more like frankie wilde.

  • IT IS NOT A SONG,IT IS A MUSICAL SCORE

  • @TheColoroutofSpace The montage at the end just before Napoleon plays tether ball for the last time.

  • @MrChieftanish The hell? These things are still around?

  • Now the # 1 Club song in the US by Avicci

  • yeah, vote for Paydro

  • are you kidding me, who creates stuff like this ----Brilliant!!!

  • Pedro for President!

  • Reminds me of the film Malcom. A true classic.

  • *Facepalm* In the credits it says: Piano, Stephen Fletcher. Did it ever cross that guys mind that the instrumentt he was playing is called a harmonium? Hence the title, Music for a Found HARMONIUM???

  • @EvanDotTom its the final piece in a whole show where he had been playing the piano all night, he only found the harmonium at the end.

  • What bloke decided to run the credits on this masterpiece?

  • every time I hear this I think of my kissing vanilla ice-cream off of Persephone's lips

  • 51 people didn't vote for Pedro Sanchez

  • "you know; numchuck skills, bow hunting skills, computer hacking skills, girls only want boys with great skills."

  • napoleon has brought me here and I AM PROUD!!!!!!!!!!

  • I like 2:30 - 2:44 because the harmonium player is really getting into his groove. Awesome piece, can't stop my foot tapping.

  • Top fooking toon. Makes the hairs on my scrotum stand on end.

  • vote for me & all of your wildest dreams will come true.....

  • Hope you like the film malcom. If so check out some of Colin Friels other films such as Blackjack.

  • PCO lives on. Imagine Arts Festival Theatre Royal, Waterford, Ireland. 30th Oct 2011....can't wait

  • Aaaaaaahhhh :) soothing

  • Which of their albums has this version, with an actual harmonium? I just stumbled upon it looking for music for harmonium and now am hooked on their sound!

This is wonderful. thanks in advance.

  • the background note just allows to be the foundation of the whole thing. Enjoy it!!

  • RIP Simon

  • The continuous drone note is played so that the bellows don't blow out. Besides this bit of basic mechanical functionality, I find continuous drones aesthetically compelling, which is part of why I love bagpipe music and throat singing. But lots of musical traditions employ drones quite effectively. (And yes, I do realize that one doesn't absolutely need to play one continuous note to save the bellows on a harmonium, but it's the simplest way,

  • anybody know how to play this on a melodica? prettyawesome song!

  • For fans of PCO, there's a real gem of an Aussie comedy from the 80s called "Malcolm" about an aspergers man who falls in with bumbling bank robbers and, through his mechanical wizardy, helps them in their quest for ill-gotten gains. I think most of the soundtrack uses PCO pieces and it really suits the gently off-beat temperament of the film.

  • @cafm21 I can't believe you've mentioned Malcolm, that is way obscure. I'm off to find it...

  • @copyalater Glad you're gonna hunt Malcolm down. I'm sure you'll like it as much as many others the world over do. I've noticed it's available on DVD at both amazon.co.uk and amazon.com for reasonable prices. You might like to check out the US trailer on you tube as it gives a pretty good idea of the sort of film it is.

  • ....I'm amazed at the # of 'genius' music composers who want to rewrite this song? If you hate it, TURN it off !! Many thousands of other composers and listeners call this a mini-Masterpiece! PCO has brought us joy for decades, and this was a killer joyful exit tune that fit 'Napoleon Dynamite'... perfectly! RIP Simon Jeffes & thank you.

  • These guys are ace.

  • They shove off all the music big big business adverts-for money the the classical Iggy Pop.

  • ive loved this for ages , just never knew who and or what it was . :-D

  • They're playing this on BBC Breakfast right now!

  • Get that C note out of there!

  • this is so cool the ong is really comming to live VERRY NICE INDEED

  • Fantastic sound.... amazing...

  • when I i saw them they had taken the back off the Harmonium. I bet somebody swore blind that there were computers hidden when it was covered over.

  • YAH!!

  • Feel sorry for the poor bastard pumping the thing..lol..JOKE.

    Great tune and performance.

  • NAPOLEON DYNAMITE MUCH?..

  • We need more musical drones in our lives. (You middle eastern people gtfo and stop rubbing it in).

  • Its All Gone Pete Tong...

  • Jobs a goodun. Awsome. having this at our wedding!!!!

  • Malcolm.. One of Australias greatest films, great memorable music..

  • love it, but the c' note throughout the song is annoying

  • @TheMetalCommando i agree, kind of.. im not sure, because it might sound a lot emptier without it, but i dont see why they couldnt switch between the c to another note, like i dont know.. im just so confused D:

  • @Rashy3000 it wouldn't sound empty I think, right now this entire song comes flying at you, there are no pauses to let it's beauty come down to you :s

  • @TheMetalCommando

    It's actually a G note

  • @valois89 blast!! your right :s

  • Really nice tune... catchy, playful and hopeful at the same time

  • The world is a little less without Simon Jeffs.

  • Thumbs up if all you can think of when you hear this is Napoleon Dynamite!!

  • what's not to like about this tune or any of the music the Penguin Cafe Orchestra plays!!!

  • For the life of me I can't remember what film I heard this on

  • @commodore665

It was in a rather good Australian film called Malcolm.

  • @commodore665 Napoleon Dynamite

  • Cette musique est superbe. Ceux qui parlent de batterie stupide n'ont pas d'humour! Le Penguin Café Orchestra du génial Simon Jeffes c'est l'élégance,l'humour et la mélancolie joyeuse en musique.

  • Check out Los Angeles Guitar Quartet's version of this song...

  • Up until 0:21 i thought What is this shit and then i fell in love...

  • ℗edro offers his protection

  • MARY & MAX YAY

  • @246REA I'm glad i found sumone who understands!! hehe

  • @saftey826 Coarse man! Everyone I know hates the movie and thinks it sucks but I know I'm not the one with shitty film taste :L haha! It's a genius film.

  • listen first to patrick street or new celeste ...

  • This was absolutely terrible. The worst bass line in the world had to ruin it all.

  • @loofonme You're totally right. It started out so well, and then the bass and the drums made it sound so stupid.

  • @loofonme The secret to learning this tune is to play it as slowly as you can then play at half that speed---over and over again ---try it , you'll be amazed, that's what I tell all my mandolin students and it applies to any tune and any instrument. It's harder to play slowly than it is to play fast, think about it, the mistakes are much more blatant. I guarantee the results.

  • My toes just tapped themselves through the floor!

  • I can't get enough of this band.

  • the film is on here under "Malcolm Trailer " go find and enjoy

  • This song caused me euphoria

  • so....happy......

  • The composer must be the "Celtic Bach "

  • 41 people couldnt find the harmonium

  • Most people listen to a song because they heard it in a movie. I watched Napoleon Dynamite because I heard this song!

  • How could one not like this tune?

  • @weblips I prefer this to Bill O'reilly's Fuck It (we'll do it live) remix.

  • after spending 40 years dealing with aspergers syndrome, i heard this song. It dawned on me, that some people, enjoy being ASSHOLES and will dislike even the truest TALENTS offered. Thank You forthe insight ASSHOLES. Peaces 2 to u and yours.

  • @johnbruder01 Sounds like your doing well with the syndrome.

  • MÚSICA PARA UN ARMONIUN ENCONTRADO,porke lo encontró en la basura e hizo esta pieza única y llena de buen gusto..del barro nacen las flores conlas que te puedes llenar de belleza

  • The film 'Malcom'. Check it out...

  • Reminds me of Neutral Milk Hotel's Untitled.

  • Got tickets to see PCO soon, can't wait.

  • Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe?

    "A history of corners"

  • Frankie Wilde....

  • Its incredible what a great performance this band puts on. I mean, that must have been something the audience remembered for the rest of their lives! You can just "feel" this song so well. There are no lyrics so everyone has their own meanings and memories associated with it. I think its great, there is a reason that Napoleon Dynamite became such a hit and this is one of them-nobody forgets this.

  • thums up if napolian dynamite got you here.

  • @HeartlessFable Thumbs up if you can spell and understand the concept of full stops.

  • too eff'n coooooooooool.......

  • amazing work. sublime musicianship and arrangement

  • thanx for posting your vidz of the excellent cafe.....x

  • PCO wrote some beautiful music, and the title and wonderful

My favorite is Cutting Branches for a Temporary Shelter

  • This song gives me the spine tingles.

  • I once heard this tune played in a small bar in the Scottish highlands, one fella with a fiddle, one on guitar, in battle-of-the-banjos style, and I've loved it ever since. I'd always assumed it was an old folk tune and didn't know what it was called. 15+ years later and I finally found out that it's an early 80s piece! Who knew, eh? :)

  • @nagualdesign Great story.

  • @nagualdesign Patrick street do a celtic version

  • @nagualdesign thats so true! i never ealised thsat till recently

  • @nagualdesign you may have heard it as patrick street do it. just search the title with "Patrick street" in it

  • @cillian1983 What on Earth are you talking about? It was the early 1990s, in Ullapool I think. It was just a couple of pissed-up locals (brilliant though they were). Patrick Street didn't record it for about another decade, and their version doesn't feature a fiddle. Nor does it build to a crescendo. Next you'll be telling me that it's from Napolean Dynamite! For help with reading and writing contact your local education authority. XD

  • @nagualdesign

I was only trying to be helpful. BTW Patrick Street released this in 1989 on the album "Irish Times" and yes it does feature a fiddle, and yes it is featured in Napoleon Dynamite.

For help with posts, please think before you type

    dick

  • @nagualdesign Feelin' rougher than Pete Doherty after a week long smackin' binge, eh? :)

  • Nunchakus skills, computer hacking skills

  • this song was made popular by it's all gone pete tong the story of frankie wilde

  • I am just honestly over-joyed that someone took their time to put this on the internet.
