  • One of the most gripping, creative, incredible pieces ever to be written and performed. Fantastic!

  • Requiem for a dream <3

  • Brought tears to my eyes. So very moving.

  • dobre co tu gadać więcej

  • LOVE IT!!

  • @htcvomaster323 there are just two ways to get music like this a) from itunes and buy it or b) from youtube with the help of "atubecatcher"

  • Zum beenden der Gänsehaut bitte "Pause" drücken.

  • oh yeah i forgot the most memorable line in the movie, "ass to ass" to meltdown, i have a friend hat says every kid should have to watch this movie in school, I agree.

  • @reelphresh there are many memorable moments! ellen burstyn is the hero in this movie (for little me) as she takes on a character experiencing the true horror of a psychosis. The "ass to ass"... to me describes the horrific nightmarish hell of an extreme level of addiction. And I mean absolute horrific nightmare physical and emotional suffering addiction... tolerated because the addict is that far gone. It's very sad to think of :(

  • @ScubaLady1000 the whole movie is a memorable moment. But to me the most memorable line is ass to ass, just because that old guy so creepy and the way he says it was perfect. but yes it's a sick sad world we live in, and its only gonna get worse before it gets better.

  • The music made the movie. Took me awhile to find it , but well worth it.

  • where can i get sheet music for this?? Any ideas??

  • @htcevomaster323

come on man, its not sheet music. justin bieber is sheet music. just because it looks idiot at first, doesn't make it sheet music. respect

  • Ehrmmm...do you, by chance, know what sheet music is? In case you're still curious, it's the written music on paper. You know, with notes and rests and all that? It's not even almost a degrading term.

  • @donodomundo666 Are you joking? hahah

  • @donodomundo666 ಠ_ಠ

  • just indescribable music... O_O

  • Lux Aeterna is one of the best pieces of music I've ever heard.

  • My god, I never though these pieces, "Meltdown" especially, could be played live. I thought they were all mostly pieced together in the studio. Seeing these being created live is mindblowing!!

  • THANX KRONOS and Clint

  • Well known "Requiem for a Dream" starts at 4:20

  • @GarnetJax what the fuck?

  • Uite că românii chiar știu să cânte. Păcat că sunt promovați doar Guță, Minune, Loredana, Bănică, Brenciu și Smiley.

  • @twitterfire o pula asteas americani

  • It feels like I ejaculated my penis in three different places.

  • excellent sound men realy it's perfect!!

  • verygood!

  • whats the song that starts at 1:28

  • OUTSTANDING !

  • :05 - 1:23 - sad beginning.

1:24 - 4:19 - creepy music that went along with the climax of the movie.

    4:20 - 8:07 - theme song of the movie.

    All together - genius.

  • music tells me to kill someone.... xD

  • This song is haunting! THANK YOU!!

  • absolutely amazing! thank you for sharing-this song gives me goosebumps

  • Splendide!

  • @winternight87 lol theres 533,192 three years later...

  • This song is so overused. Its like everywhere.

  • Wow. I hated this song before because of it's overuse. But then I watched the movie.....what a fantastic movie and this song, every part of it is fucking MIND BLOWING. I love meltdown

  • Does anybody know where to find the sheet music for this??

  • @htcevomaster323 i can play the violin parts and i have the sheet music, I got my set from the guitar center...

  • 0:00 - 1:22 "Ghosts Of a Future Lost"

    1:23 - 4:19 "Meltdown"

    4:19 - 8:07 "Lux Aeterna"

All of these pieces are from Requiem for a Dream and were composed by Clint Mansell. You can find them on the original soundtrack.

  • The main song is at 4:20

  • Man I wish Gods IPod had colorblind by counting crows on it. :I

  • question. Where can I get the full and complete one? cause i heard that there's different form and i just want to find the original one.

  • @DevilStick1953 Just look up Requiem for adream and the first one is what you are looking for

  • The woman is playing all the best parts, I like. :P

  • @AreejMandurah

    it's a man :3

  • @lemonshik oops :P ... but it's still one person playing all my favorite parts <3

  • Perfect song for a hunted house

  • Fairly basic tune (as are most 'classical' themes) paddled through by the fairly fabulous Kronos Quartet. Judging by the number of YouTube responses it must have been a film score or something.

  • when i heard the first tunes from 4:30 after one year, i felt like my heart stopped and my soul emptied. I knew music can hide supernatural powers

  • Their sound is just exquisite :) i love how everything aligns *facemelt*

  • amazing

  • it scares you... but at the same time you can't stop listening to it..

  • Svara på det här videoklipI think it sounds like if a 12 yearold have written this after having gone to musicschool .

  • 5:27 so good

    .

  • Thumbs up for Heavy Rain.

  • this isnt requiem for a dream.....

  • @RivenArgileon then what is this? :)

  • Comment removed

  • @tylrjsph which is a song from requiem from a dream... i was meant to be a bit sarcastic

  • @RivenArgileon Goto 4:30 >.>

  • @RivenArgileon yeah, it really is. it's music from the soundtrack.

  • @phatandddrfreak i never said it wasnt from the soundtrack...it's not lux aeterna, the song that most people call requiem for a dream

  • the start reminds me of the shawshank redemption theme

  • The normal version starts at 4:20

  • That old woman scared the shit out of me!

  • i can listening to this song a thousand times and no matter what, the same feeling that i had when i listen to the first time is still here.

  • @tustao I know I've heard this song today for like 8-9 times at least in all versions and I still want more!!

  • 1:30 is where shit gets fucked up.

    .

  • 1:30 is where shit gets fucked up.

  • sounds better when you see it being played

  • awesome

  • This almost sounds like its from the Fountain...

  • @lpajer19 probably mostly clint mansell stuff

  • @lpajer19 thats because The Fountain is one of the other films that used Kronos Quartet in its film scoring.

  • The beginning song, which was "Ghosts of a Future Lost" I believe. What are the cellos notes that it continues to play? I know what the violins and viola plays but I can't figure out what the cello plays yet. Anyone have any idea? Thank you!

  • @composer321

    D, G, D, A

  • 4:31 is where it realllly starts for me

  • This song makes me want to do drugs.

  • @MyMomHitsMe111 then watch requiem for a dream.

  • this is good but doesnt have the gutt wrenching feel as other quartets I have seen do this on youtube.

  • this is so beautiful !!!

  • I love how the music gets more depressing as the movie goes on. I have a big problem with forcing people to do things, but this movie should be mandatory viewing material!

  • the one that's playing at 4:30 is definitely my favourite.

  • Listen to everyday.

  • I'm not into clasical music (I do respect it! But I don't really listen to it)

but I do love this song ;O man it gives me the chills!

  • ill make sure this is the first song i play for a girl when she hops in my car.

  • WTF??

  • too powerful (in the most powerful way possible)

  • when the world falls into peaces... THIS IS THE SONG I WANNA HEAR!

    lovin' it!

  • @pR135T007

hmmm not sure if you meant "peaces" or "pieces". either way changes the sentence ALOT.

  • when the world falls into peaces... THIS IS THE SONG I WANNA HEAR!

    lovin' it!

  • @pR135T007

You better be listening to it everyday then. It's falling to pieces right now.

  • @G0FlyAKite1 cynical much?

  • @NuclearFiend

Be more specific with your question.

  • This music is in the ipod of God...

  • Haunting piece...brilliant

  • Gänsehaut

  • Love this music. Scares the shit out of me though. haha

  • подобную эмоциональную музыку очень сложно найти.... большое искусство...

  • wooow es hermoso ver el talento, la fuerza, el empeño .

    Encantadoor. simplemente Maginifico!!

  • does anyone know if the first movement has its own extended version? its the music that always plays when jared and jennifer have a quiet scene together

  • just saw them last night at the New Music Festival in Winnipeg. So amazing! 3 encores lol

  • I don't know what some people are talking about. For any of you who own the Requiem For A Dream soundtrack, all three parts to it, you'll know that this whole thing is by Mansell. Everything you hear in this video is something from the soundtrack, save for the first minute or so which I don't recognize, is all from the soundtrack.

  • This music makes me want to play Violin

  • I love Kronos, I admire Darren, and Requiem for a dream is one of my favourite movies.

  • All of this is Mansell and from Requiem for a Dream the first song is Ghost of a Future Lost, then it goes to Meltdown at 1:24 and finally Lux Aeterna at 4:20.

  • Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous...

I love how it only takes 4 instrumentalists to make such sounds of epic proportions!

  • Why at 2:31 jump??

  • amazing :)

  • Er, for anyone curious the more known 'Lux Aeterna' starts at about 4:30 or so. I believe, Mr. @FoxtonLOL that I may have never heard the entire version. Thusly, I am an uneducated musical fool and cower before you pleading mercy! PLX DUN SMYT ME MR. GODMUSICDOODGUY! PLXPLXPLX?

  • i heard this was played in 2081. A really great short movie. Watch it guys.

  • Three minutes in and still waiting for it to start...does it turn into Lux Aeterna at any point?

  • @Maiwahfulz This is Lux Aeterna.

  • The trainwreck transitional sound effect as the people themselves are each peaking into a trainswreck themselves is "Lux Aeterna" brilliant.

  • Супер , не иначе ...

  • I saw these guys won the nobel prize (in music). that brought me here but I'm not so impressed.

  • the part from 1:30 the song, wat is the name?

  • I am 16 and i love to play with my weener? >

  • this is so beethoven

  • Extremely well done. you are right recording doesnt do it justice but if you have any musical ear than you can tell this was amazing.

  • Was this actually composed by Clint Mansell?

  • @kingsmiles1 yeah fo sho. that's why he's a fuckin genius man

  • 4:45 <3

  • @kostastassos Yeah , i like that part. It so beautiful

  • wtf, its the exact copy of the CD version 0o

  • @mystmoorth That might be explained by clarifying that these are the same people who preform on the official soundtrack =)

  • Oh my god. When they started playing the famous part I almost fell over because I didn't expect them going from a chaotic kind of playing as the bass played normally to, all of a sudden, all the violins falling into sync to sound like such a good transition. :D Awesome.

  • YEAH eargasm ^^

  • on my to-do list:

    see kronos quartett live

  • I had not known of this song until I heard it done by

Rammstein and another youtube user known as invertedpanda who did the best version i've heard yet

Got to say the original sounds like complete crap in comparison.

Even the few Acoustic guitar versions I found were better than this version.

  • @rwh531 Do you not have EARS? Besides, videos and recording do NOT do string music justice. It's something that must be seen live to appreciate. Kids these days..

  • @rwh531 stop trolling

  • @rwh531 You can't say this is crap in comparison. It all depends on the listener, not all of us are in to the same thing. In my own opinion this is a very well done piece.

  • Requiem for a Dream is the most haunting film I've seen to this date. On top of that, it has the most powerful score of all time. Just listening to these songs sends shivers down your spine.

  • I'm a big fan of the film, soundtrack and quartet, and i sampled two of the pieces played above in a hip hop track of mine - 'The Delivery [feat. Matachin]' by Bachelor Fox - which is in the video responses to this video. Any feedback would make me a very happy camper.

  • Well i must say it beats out bb king for the best concert i have been too, A+

  • @SouthernCalEd hahahahaha

  • @SouthernCalEd ahahaha, nice irony.

  • what this poor child is saying is that a lot of youngsters are influenced by the shit that is out there and perhaps never exposed to a masterpiece such as this. Cut the kid a break and be proud of a younger person finding enjoyment in music outside of the box. easy people.

  • @begguyasommer yea but the kid who says he is 16 is just begging for a thumbs up i mean its standard

  • @begguyasommer i agree sir...buuuuuuuut unfortunately today he must agree with what other people think is music or be forced to undergo ridicule. it's sad people forgot that music is ART and isn't necessarily there to cater to what the social standard is of "music". not everyone love mozart, bach, or monteverdi. i understand critics, its cool. i just would like to know why if individuals didnt want to listen to this, why even look up the video? or even click on it even if it was in a generalque

  • @Hoodwinked4u Your reply has nothing to do with what I said...

  • @begguyasommer Exactly

  • what does being 16 have to do with liking this music

  • @tanzeer as long as you dont like rap you can be 4 years old and be on the right track.

  • i live on the second floor i absolutely adore this masterpeice!!!!!!!!!!

  • Beautifully haunting. I adore this!

  • i got a dog and a turtle and i adore this masterpiece too!!!

  • amazing! o.O

  • simply E-P-I-C...

  • ...A-M-A-Z-I-N-G...

  • Rather sad that this beautiful piece of music has almost become a cinematic cliche... from 4 minutes and 20 seconds onwards.... Primarily in the context of "we haven't quite finished our own score but need to get a trailer out". The entire score of Requiem For A Dream is stunning. Hear the "4 mins 20 Secs" in it's proper setting.

  • @bobstermarley How is it a sad thing?

I don't mean to be rude in my questioning of this, I just think that more cinematic and television prospects need more music like this to have a better impact on their viewer.

That said, I'd prefer that they began to find more examples of timeless work like this instead of repeating what everyone else has done.
