@owner12 Never heard about progressive metal? And it's pretty much depends of the band which actually plays death metal, cause there are not too many really technically high level bands. And by the way, blues has very hard and versatile technics too, sometimes it being far more technically advanced than death and prog metal. But, if you wanna think like you do, well...

Blues is hard but in completely other way. What's more blues is the first music which you have to play at begginig story with guitar. So it's one of the easiest genres to play. As I told if you listen to crapy death metal that's true but that's pretty obvious blues is on easier technic level.

And those two guitar players (jim and josh) are very good at what they does, so... I do love to listen to some really progressive staff like Opeth, Obscura, Arch Enemy (this one is really great in terms of technics), but I actually listens to and less technical staff, because music is music, it has no need really in technicality at all.

@imoc515 just rest your fingers on top of the strings (in this case the 2nd thinnest string), keep hitting the string with your plectrum and slide your hand up the neck. It will create high sounding notes (called harmonics) this way. Just try it out!

Also make sure you got a decent size string gauge, like a .11 or .13, whatever you prefer. Give it lots of overdrive as well and play on the bridge pickup ;-)

@CorganIsBeast I agree, technique wise Josh is way ahead of jim (although its got to be said his vibrato is pretty shocking..) and from what I have heard he writes the majority of the music? All Jim is adding here is a few octave harmonies and silly sound effects...thats it, no big contribution to the sound at all so im not sure why he is getting all the attention here.
