Most of the time parents of hermaphroditic infants have to pick which gender to raise the child, but that doesn't always go as planned. the doctor usually recommends what gender should be picked based on the greater level of which hormone, but parents dont always listen because they want what they want. in the defendent's case, her parents probably wanted a boy, but she had too much estrogen to continue life as a male.
