It's very gladdening underrepresented languages are already having their place in mainstream media. Nevertheless, more work still has to be done around the world to help preserve immense human wisdom and history that is on the brink of total eradication due to many countries' national language policies and cultural cleansing.
Scotish, Irish..English... you are all the same to me !! You all come from Norman people, who invaded the Brit. island !! And that means, that actualy all of your " three roots"; English, Sctottish and Irish are actualy Norwegian, or Danish !!!!!
It's not really Scottish, it's Scottish Gaelic. We had at least 3 main languages originally - Norn, related to Norse, which was spoken on Orkney and Shetland and other Viking settled islands. Scots, which was spoken as a Germanic language influenced heavily by the Anglo-Saxons of Northumbria. English with Scots words is pretty much the most common language in Scotland. Finally, Scottish Gaelic is the language of the highlanders and islanders - the Gaels from Ireland.
I know what you mean, I'm Irish so I barely get the gist, it's a bit like Donegal Irish, which I barely understand anyway. Is teangacha álainne iad, agus tá (tha to you) siad an - chosúil. mar shampla, is é 'Cad é mar atá tú' 'how are you' as gaeilge !
It's good to hear the natural flow of Gaelic in the news feeds. Learning Gaelic at the students pace doesn't really get you ready to hear it in real time! ( Study materials slow down the pace of speech so you can hear each sound but in real life ppl don't speak so slowly.)

I'm not insulting the language itself, but Scottish Gaelic sounds like a mixture of Dutch and German. It sounds cool!
