  • He's great, but sounds much too young for the part :/

  • @meephouse that deserves to be top comment

  • DREW SARICH IS SO VERSATILE AND AMAZING I CANNOT HANDLE THIS SHIT!!!LJFASDLFJASDLF

  • Beautifully done...

  • I saw him in 2008. That performance basically changed my life....

He hits "24601" unlike any other Valjean. Flawless.

  • I saw him live in 2008. He was totally awesome!

  • Who do I have to sell my soul to, just to get a recording of this tape... I want it so bad.

  • @xXJessWorldXx haha i know what you mean. i wish there was a cast recording with this cast. he's so hotttt.

  • 0.0 and i'm supposed to be singing this.... well... looks like i'll just be 2460...

  • I feel like he keeps slipping through English and American accents throughout the song.

  • Drew Sarich rocks the world...literally. There are a lot of gret male voices on Broadway. Raul Esparza and Cheyenne Jackson are everywhere and in everything. I like them a lot, but Drew is the single best, most versatile male voice out there. Why has he not had a bigger career in the US theatre world? I just don't get it.

  • @lcowles Well, he lives in Europe and he said in an interview that he and his wife agreed that when their boys were old enough to go to school, they'd go back to Europe. And they did.

  • Drew Sarich is wonderful in whatever role he plays, but he does seem too young to be Jean Valjean. But it great that he has played almost all the men in Les Mis, just Marius and Thenardier to go

  • wuta high note

  • "IM JEAN VAL JEAN....24601!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hmm I love drew sarich, but he is better as Quasimodo, his Valjean doesnt cut it for me. I like wilkinson

  • OMG this is like the first time I hear an American/British performer pronuncing "Jean Valjean" the way it should be pronunced! Go Drew!

  • John Owen Jones is the best Valjean ever!

  • @00rabbit7 I'm afraid not. When I saw Drew in London, he was wonderful. Easily the best Valjean. Although Colm is a close second :)

  • Drew is amazing....but in other things. He is too young. John Owen Jones was also too young when he first played it, but he's grown into it. I love how he sings the Confrontation too. Drew is wonderful in Der Glockner Von Notre Dame and Rudolf, but I'm not a fan when he sings in English. He just has alot of harsh consonants.

  • Definitely one of my least favourite Valjean's, but certainly a much better singer than past principals such as David Shannon, Sean Kingsley or Mike Sterling.

  • Drew, you're just too young. In 15 years please please PLEASE PLEASE come back to Les Mis and you will be perfection in my eyes <3

  • @thesilvershining Exactly my thoughts. He is incredible. An amazing talent, but too young. I do get shivers wondering how good he will be.

  • A little young looking for the role..yes. But he's got a good voice and might I add excellent diction. Colm wilkinson will always bey favorite but i'm glad to see there are still some taleneted actors/singers out there. :)

  • not bad :D

  • I definitely think Valjean should be older, or his age, because I saw a 16 year old Valjean, me and my friend thought he was so cute, and I found it strange how I liked HIM, and you're supposed to be in love with Marius!

  • I prefer colm wilkinson, but i agree guy has a great voice. He sings it so fast!

  • in my view no one can beat Colm Wilkinson!!!

  • hes definitely driving them too much

  • @JAR2369 definitely got to put the brakes on this guy.

  • he seems too young to play valjean...

  • best Jean on the world!! :O

  • Phenomenal singer but poorly cast. His voice is extremely nasal which does not lend itself to Valjean and you can barely hear those B-flats at all. Enjolras, sure, Valjean is a stretch and Javert is just absurd.

  • I couldn't agree with you more...

  • i love him. he is amayzing

  • i dont understand what you mean by his Rs are driving you nuts? what part?

  • ok so I think he is to young for the role and of course he isnt Colm Wilkinson BUT I would LOVE so see him as Valjean because he has an INCREDIBLE voice. A lot of actors who are cast in this role look much more like Valjean and have much more mature voices but they sometimes dont have the range that is required for the role and that can get frustrating. So I say props to Drew Sarich for having an amazing voice and an amazing range.

  • He is incredible as Valjean. At first you think hes a bit too young to play the part, and his voice isn't right, but as soon as this song is done, you feel safe, and just settle to enjoy the performance. Seen him twice in London.

  • you know, i don't like colm wilkinson for Jean that much. i don't know what it is.

though i agree, this guy is too young, still ooh my god, what a voice.

  • i love him and everything he does - the Drew Sarich/Les Miz internet controversy will rage on forever (was he miscast) and the theatre bootleg appreciating community of youtube will forever be divided.

what every your opinion (mine being that, while working against type, he brought something fresh and exciting to both Valjean and Javert, but was most in his element as Enjolras) you can't deny he is an all around grade A performer.

  • yeah he doesn't disguise his voice at all

great performance but bad choice in character

  • Good voice but he is no Valjean

  • mmmm i agree

  • Amazing voice. But I feel he sounds to young for Valjean. He is amazing dont get me wrong. I am just used to Valjeans sounding older.

  • Valjean's gotta sound fatherly

thats why he connects so emotionally to the boy and thats why when he sings bring him home its so powerful

  • He has an amazing vocie! Vey tender at certain moments when needed but powerfull at others, specially in the last high pitch note.

  • Drew Sarich is amazing. I love his voice, originally the role of Jean Valjean wasn't my favourite, but because of this guy it is now. Electric performances from this guy!

  • i like all 3 of em.

  • yes!!! thanks for posting this! i love him as Valjean. is there a clip anywhere of him singing Come to me? with fantine. thats my favorite .

  • With Alex Gemignani, you couldn't grasp that he was a former criminal. With Drew, you feel like he could kick your ass. I LOVE how visceral his Valjean is!

  • jean valjean is not a criminal, thats kinda what the first half is all about, he is a christian in a bad situation, as are so many in this play. but he stole a loaf of bread for his dying sisters child.

  • However, Valjean has alot of anger about what happened, especially against the world for putting him through hell because he was trying to be a good person. So yes, I'm sure he would kick your ass if he felt it necessary, even after finding God when the Bishop helped him.

  • well, ok, i guess can see it from your point of veiw... yeah, that makes sense... thanks =)

  • Yeah and then he stole the silver...right... ;)

  • Before he repented. The Bishop lied to save him from the Police and then gave him extra silver candlesticks. Valjean repents after this kindness, because the Bishop could have denounced him, but chose not too.

  • Technically, he repents after stepping on a child's coin, and not realizing he was on it, yells at the child till the kid flees, and realizes he stole from a child, and would either have to become a monster, or a saint.

  • @allycrombie33 every carachter he plays becomes visceral...look at Judas or Graf Krolock...he just brings out their emotions and shoves them in your face...AWESOME

  • fabulous he has a voice to die for, I really love the end. nice shooting man post more

  • Drew Sarich is great but I prefer a richer voice for the role of Valjean, such as JOJ and Colm Wilkinson.

  • The last note is awesome!

  • I perfectly agree with you

  • wow.

I saw him on thursday and he is just phenomenal. I really can't think of anyone to compare his voice to - truly unique. and hes SUCH a nice guy!! - I was lucky enough to meet him afterwards. But I think the way that they changed the direction from this performance to the one I saw was better- it seemed like more of an internal dilemma, much more powerful and energetic. They also did his hair in a more clean-cut way, which seemed more suited to his role at this point.

  • Oh that last note. Perfect.

  • I saw your comment. Then I watched thie vid. You are so right. Flawless.

  • how long will drew be staying in london for ?

  • november 8 I think.

  • He actually gets a little ahead of the conductor at 1.37 and the conductor is forced to speed up - this is confirmed by a little look from Drew to the conductor at 1:40 to find out where he is :-)

    "And mustmynameuntilIdie"

  • I never used to be a great lover of drew especially when he swappped with JOJ from brdway. But listening to this and his bring him home he is amazing and his last 1 at the end is perfect vibrato and just amazing.

  • oh my!! i love the way he does and says things eg: this stranger he has FOWNNDA and when he sings the final who am i he sings is like with strength who AMM iyya

  • not so fond of the directing of the Broadway Revival; Drew's the best though

  • i love u man

    not gay btw lol

  • broadway

  • wow!

    is this london or bway?

  • Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
