I miss when IGN reviewed games like this. They're much more informative and they were actually more logical reviews as well. Nowadays they reduce the score of a game for the most ridiculous reasons.
I don't have an overall opinion on the game, but I would like to point out one matter: THE SOUNDTRACK IS NOT HARDCORE! It's generic! Sure, it's generic in a good way, I don't mind it, but it's NOT HARDCORE.
To me Devil May Cry 1 was the best. DMC3 really got on my nerves. Every time you go into a new room it seals you in and you have to fight 2 or 3 waves of demons. 9 times out of 10 you'll just be mashing the triangle button and jumping when something swings at you. It's just mindless! D: gahh! At least with DMC1 you could generally skip all the combat. You just actually WANTED to fight things in DMC1 and you'd be pressed to collect orbs during the actual playthrough! No repeating the 1st mission!
@Gharmos 1 was great, but I highly disagree it was anywhere near as good as 3. If all you did was press Triangle 9 times out of 10, then jump when an enemy attacked, then it sounds like you were playing the game wrong. You have an O and and square button, mix that shit up. Btw, anyone else notice the DMC game reviewers at IGN are extremely boring?
@Cobaltwire No, I was pressing square and O a lot. But it didn't deal with anything almost nearly as quickly as rebellion. Trust me, I've played this game to death. Mashing triangle deals with everything far more quickly. I'm complaining that there was too much combat, so while mixing up combat was fun, it became monotonous and boring and I ended up mashing triangle!
a lot of people are right devil may cry 3 is better than 4 it was more fast paced and had more styles than 4 they should have moved some of the styles from 3 in there like you got them to make dante more like dante not saying i hated dmc4 they just did not put as much detail in the fighting and style as they did in 3 nero was a good add on in 4 helped mix up the gameplay a bit
I freaking love this game. If the first one blew you away, be prepared to be twice as blown away with this one. 2 is just ok. 4 well, that game is dog sht.

24gcam ok I'm a big fan of both series but I honestly like DMC better obviously like dude said it wouldn't be a GoW without DMC but again talkin about Dante vs Kratos I can tell you that I know you haven't played DMC because if you have you would know that Kratos stabbing Dante would do as much as making him laugh as he did when he let Nero impale him but all that aside I love em both =)

DmC gameplay wise will probably be like DMC3. Forget about that devil bringer shit and simplyfying the customizability of the character. DMC3 was so unique. Best installment in the franchise, hopefully DmC captures what they did in DMC4 and pushes it further

this game is pretty good eventhough i never heard much about this game unlike the first Devil may cry. Cool story and gameplay but definetly worth the $20 greatest hits price.
@24gcam what are u thinking? decapitation wouldn't work either,and kratos could stab dante with everyone of attacks, and dante STILL would be alive. Kratos wouldn't get the chance anyway, since dante could shoot the crap out of kratos and beat him to death with just rebellion.
@24gcam Idk man.....if you played any of the games/anime, you would know Dante has had huge swords chucked into his throat multiple times. Plus god knows what else done to him. He is the son of the strongest demon in the world.....and personally I think the strongest demon could ass rape the strongest Greek God. Both are good games though :D

Was this game really that difficult? I remember mundus on Dante must die was a lot harder than DMC3s final boss. In DMC3 you could always return to previous missions to stock up on Items... you could do that in DMC1 too but not that easy. For me DMC1 was a lot harder...

And for anyone who didn't know, DMC 3 is 2 player, after you get the double ganger ability, and you have a second controller in the ps2, player 1 uses double ganger and the 2nd player hits start or select and the takes control over the shadow... Its works great, but they shouldn't go off screen because the cam in always on the main player. And you can always take double ganger off taking the playable character away from the 2nd player just incase you dont need help

How does he have 999,999 orbs and so little health? He cheated? By the time I got that many orbs, I beat the game ten fold and found all the blue orbs....
I noticed a fair amount of the footage is from some pretty popular combo videos. This is a pretty good choice, if you as me. Most game reviews for games that require high technical skill would usually just show some scrub spamming the same move over and over again, while the commentator says "I really like how deep the gameplay can get." The combo videos really give you an idea of just how technical you can get.
for me the action in this game is better than what we see in god of war maybe not the story but the insane gameplay and all tha cancels the switch of the weapons the boss battles the jokes and the action parts i think this is the best action game ever made for ps2..!! the better
THE BEST GAME OF THE SERIES! I hope capcom makes dmc5 as a sequel for dmc3. I wanna see dante vs. virgil again. Plus the fight in where dante and virgil worked together, was my fav level.
@werule113 Devil May Cry 1 is a follow-up to 3, strange as that is. Vergil battled Mundas, that main antagonist of DMC1 in the netherworld untill he eventually died, Thats why Vergil is Nelo Angelo in the first game. The order of the games is actually 3, 1, 4, 2.
Go to any game stop, if game stop exists in your country (dont know where youre from), and look at PS2 games or the 9.99 and under Box, and it should be in one of those places.
@8899556644 I bought it from gamestop when I went on a school field trip. We went to a mall and they had a gamestop there so I bought it. I bought the 3 game bundle which has dmc 1, 2, and 3. DMC 3 was the special edition so even better. It cost me like $25 bucks for 3 REALLY good games, so its worth it

Yeah...I played this game a lot of times....I never finished it completely....I got to Heaven and Hell and got tired of it...But the cutscenes are allways awesome to watch

DMC3 is by far the best of the series. The camera is still a problem in the 4th installment, its actually even worse during combat in open space. Plus you can access all the moves from the start and can even choose to trade them for another. I dunno, doesn't feel like a sence of accomplishment. Although it's very awesome, it just feels unsatisfying when i complete a mission.
DMC3 wins. Story, cutscenes, Dante's brash behaviour, upgrades, weapons, moves.. DMC4 feels like how 2 should have been.
whats the point of that 3 is the first game 1 is the second 4 is the third and 2 is the last and 5 is gonna continue from 2....the release dates of the games dont match the storyline lines which is awesome but lil confusing
I don't get it, this game looks so much better than dmc 4, I had played dmc 3 at a friend's house and quite enjoyed it, so I decided to by dmc 4 when it came out, dmc 4 was fun at best but I didn't really enjoy it that much, I felt like so much was left out from the third game, mainly the customization, and even the combat depth, the whole thing just felt like a stripped down dmc 3 with better graphics and new levels. So I finally decided to get dmc 3, yaay!
i never played the original one. i only played special edition, and ppl say the original version is very hard. Can the special edition also be as hard as the original?
Well, the true original, the one with the different health display, was VERY, VERY hard. More so than the recreated version with the display in this video or the Special Edition. The recreated and Special Edition follow the same difficulties. You'd be really lucky to find the original somewhere.
No nothing special they just re-released it with the special word on it to get people to buy it. OF COURSE ITS SPECIAL. If I remember right it has a turbo mode, another difficulty level bloody palace (i think that was in the original 3 but i dont remember) the Jester boss and my favorite you can play as vergil.
Sigh you people think GoW2 is better than DMC3 why exactly? Oh what? Because there aren't any backtracking? Honestly, GoW2 bored me to tears if I compare it to DMC3, and I didn't finish GoW2 because I got bored quick enough. After I finished GoW1, I never played it again. After I finished DMC3 once, I played again and again. Now I've finished at 5x in 5 different difficulties. DMC3 has a higher pace than GoW2 and most hardcore gamers, DMC3 is better (IMO only)
I aggree with you dude. The game is written in such a good way that you MUST play it all over again. Capcom made sure we don't put the game on the shelf after first playthrough, same can go for RE4 too. It was a good idea that you could choose what mission you want to play. Yeah I must agree GoW1 was a bit booring after all those brown environments in Pandora and GoW2 was good in the beginning but you could get the "I've done this before" thing and they did not do anything new. Same mechanic...

Public opinion means very little to me. GTA gets boring after a while cause free range serial killing gets old real fast. Also there are plenty of sites that have dubbed GTA one of the most overrated games.

I noticed a fair amount of the footage is from some pretty popular combo videos. This is a pretty good choice, if you as me. Most game reviews for games that require high technical skill would usually just show some scrub spamming the same move over and over again, while the commentator says "I really like how deep the gameplay can get." The combo videos really give you an idea of just how technical you can get.

for me the action in this game is better than what we see in god of war maybe not the story but the insane gameplay and all tha cancels the switch of the weapons the boss battles the jokes and the action parts i think this is the best action game ever made for ps2..!! the better

THE BEST GAME OF THE SERIES! I hope capcom makes dmc5 as a sequel for dmc3. I wanna see dante vs. virgil again. Plus the fight in where dante and virgil worked together, was my fav level.

@werule113 Devil May Cry 1 is a follow-up to 3, strange as that is. Vergil battled Mundas, that main antagonist of DMC1 in the netherworld untill he eventually died, Thats why Vergil is Nelo Angelo in the first game. The order of the games is actually 3, 1, 4, 2.

Go to any game stop, if game stop exists in your country (dont know where youre from), and look at PS2 games or the 9.99 and under Box, and it should be in one of those places.

@8899556644 I bought it from gamestop when I went on a school field trip. We went to a mall and they had a gamestop there so I bought it. I bought the 3 game bundle which has dmc 1, 2, and 3. DMC 3 was the special edition so even better. It cost me like $25 bucks for 3 REALLY good games, so its worth it

Yeah...I played this game a lot of times....I never finished it completely....I got to Heaven and Hell and got tired of it...But the cutscenes are allways awesome to watch

but yah dmc 3 is one of the gratest fucking games ever, theres tons and tons of extras, the story is just epic, dante is just a total bad ass, and vergil is one of the gratest villens/rivals of all time, and the game play, you can come up with sooo maney combos theres a ton of wepons and sence you can use um two at a time theres just and endless amout of combos

DMC3 is by far the best of the series. The camera is still a problem in the 4th installment, its actually even worse during combat in open space. Plus you can access all the moves from the start and can even choose to trade them for another. I dunno, doesn't feel like a sence of accomplishment. Although it's very awesome, it just feels unsatisfying when i complete a mission.
DMC3 wins. Story, cutscenes, Dante's brash behaviour, upgrades, weapons, moves.. DMC4 feels like how 2 should have been.

I don't get it, this game looks so much better than dmc 4, I had played dmc 3 at a friend's house and quite enjoyed it, so I decided to by dmc 4 when it came out, dmc 4 was fun at best but I didn't really enjoy it that much, I felt like so much was left out from the third game, mainly the customization, and even the combat depth, the whole thing just felt like a stripped down dmc 3 with better graphics and new levels. So I finally decided to get dmc 3, yaay!

Well, the true original, the one with the different health display, was VERY, VERY hard. More so than the recreated version with the display in this video or the Special Edition. The recreated and Special Edition follow the same difficulties. You'd be really lucky to find the original somewhere.

Original DMC3. The original DMC3 is VERY rare, and has a different HUD than the "Normal" DMC3 and DMC3:SE.
DMC3:SE says Special Edition on the case and the disc itself. Also has a different title screen, IIRC.

No nothing special they just re-released it with the special word on it to get people to buy it. OF COURSE ITS SPECIAL. If I remember right it has a turbo mode, another difficulty level bloody palace (i think that was in the original 3 but i dont remember) the Jester boss and my favorite you can play as vergil.

Sigh you people think GoW2 is better than DMC3 why exactly? Oh what? Because there aren't any backtracking? Honestly, GoW2 bored me to tears if I compare it to DMC3, and I didn't finish GoW2 because I got bored quick enough. After I finished GoW1, I never played it again. After I finished DMC3 once, I played again and again. Now I've finished at 5x in 5 different difficulties. DMC3 has a higher pace than GoW2 and most hardcore gamers, DMC3 is better (IMO only)

I aggree with you dude. The game is written in such a good way that you MUST play it all over again. Capcom made sure we don't put the game on the shelf after first playthrough, same can go for RE4 too. It was a good idea that you could choose what mission you want to play. Yeah I must agree GoW1 was a bit booring after all those brown environments in Pandora and GoW2 was good in the beginning but you could get the "I've done this before" thing and they did not do anything new. Same mechanic...

I agree. The first one there were a lot of gimmicks to beat some of the enemies, like those shadow tigers with the ball inside
dmc3 is just tough combat, but once you get past the learning curve you really get the hang of it

Public opinion means very little to me. GTA gets boring after a while cause free range serial killing gets old real fast. Also there are plenty of sites that have dubbed GTA one of the most overrated games.
