You can do this with the 701 if you take out the PCI WiFi Adapter and replace. The 4Gb SSD is on the mainboard. So when you use the adapter You can Have 2 SSDs if you use a MiniPCI to CF adapter. Just use a CF card. 4Gb M/B SSD for the O/S 32Gb CF (Secondary master) for programs and 32Gb SD Card in SD slot for personal stuff. U can attach a new WiFi 802.11n to the internal USB port on the M/B. Then use a GOFlex 500Gb Wifi external HDD for mass storage. Don't wanna put a HDD in mine.
i need some help on my eeepc 900, i've opened the thing and i can't seem to find where the storage really is. is it the chip above the RAM or the Azurewave PCI express attached inside? some comments would be appreciated, i need to backup my files and i can't seem to figure out that damn thing
I don't know much at all about 1.8 drives, but JVC HDD camcorders use them, how can I upgrade or replace one?! How do they connect? Looks like ribbon cable but not sure the connection at all
@pinteacel Just so everybody knows, the eeepc 900 CANNOT HAVE A NON-SSD HARD DRIVE INSTALLED, NO MATTER WHAT JKKMOBILE SAYS. If you want to upgrade you'll have to get a solid state dive, or waste a whole lot of money and time finding out. The adapters and drives fit, but there is no way to get a ZIF ribbon connector working between the two.
hi there i have a question for you is there any diference between the zif connector on the toshiba hdd and the samsung hdd, the reason im asking is that ripped my ribbon cable on my samsung 60gb 1.8" hdd but the only ribbons that i can find say toshiba/hitachi nothing about samsung
I installed the OS on the 8GB drive but there was no way I could boot from it! I did all the BIOS configurations and I even disabled the built in 4GB drive but then it wouldn't boot at all. Any tricks?
@MorkaGraven sorry, i didn't buy the computer, i just use it. and it works great for me. Dells may be a little on the spendy side, but they are good computers. Don't bitch at me for what someone gave me.
@davidakadb Dells aren't good, any half decent technician should have experience with at least 1 dell and will know their help services are horrible and that the hardware is terribly poor quality. The reason they sell so well is because they advertise "custom builds" in which less than capable computer users can order instead of damaging a lot of components doing their own build.
@MorkaGraven Well don't bitch at me for it. I've had good experience with dell computers and ok experience with their tech support. Now go tell your problems to someone else, cause i don't want to hear it.
@MorkaGraven If you bothered to notice, i asked that question 2 years ago, and not to you. And you didn't answer my question, you just started off on some rant about how dell products suck. I don't care about your opinion and didn't ask for it.
yeah, but it's too fucking expensive. It's like 300 euros for the 30Gb of hdd. (A total insanity) for the same money you can buy a new and faster eeepc with 160Gb hdd. Or buy the zif converter you see here. It will cost like 5-10 euros.
Ok, PLEASE tell us where we can buy this!!?? It has been quite some time since the video, so is it safe to assume that the prototype never made it to production due to new SSD's coming to market?? I am not happy with my Runcore PCIE Sata 64 that you showed a couple weeks ago (bought one due to that vid), and want to go back to HDD, but new 901 has NO ZIF connector!! Please advise if these are coming, or are lost at the prototype stage!!??
I just ordered the EEE PC 901 from Amazon today. Is there a chance that it will come with ZIF connectors? Is it a for sure no, or a maybe? Do some come with the connector and some don't, or does it affect ALL newer ones?
I also really want to know: where could I buy the adapter? is your 1.8" hard drive ATA 100 type(Data Transfer Rates: 100MB/s (To ATA-6))? Could you give us more information about these two??
Sweet! I was planning on getting a 901(which I did, 20GB Linux version), but when I found out some don't have the ZIF connector I was bummed, almost didn't buy one. With this, I'm glad bought a 901, I loved it before, but now it'll be even better!
One question though, how much does a HDD effect the battery life when compared to a SSD?
Where abouts can you get the adapters for the 901, wat search (e.g. Ebay) keep getting other adapters come up. Also, do you need to get a replacement compartment lid for 901 to fit the HDD in or will it fit with the factory supplied hatch?
When is the 1.8inch HDD adapter for ASUS Eee PC 901 ready for sale online? Would you be able to package it to include the HDD as well? In this way, we have a DIY kit for your idea. Kindly let us know. Thanks for your great ideas!

asus sucks.
i hate them
why didn't they make a standard slot for standard hdd/ssd?
I wish they would die.
comecra85 1 year ago
@comecra85 you can buy a 7.5 mm SSD drive for $75 bucks or less. They're now very very fast at processing data than they were when jkk made this vid.

Beakybal4 2 years ago
you can find the adapter on ebay
davidakadb 2 years ago
do you think it would be possible to do this on a dell mini 9?
davidakadb 2 years ago
it's possible but there is not enough room.. you would need to make the bottom lid bigger.

Have you a "work in progress" tutorial on how to do this on Acer one 110?
Is the model without the Hard drive connector, so the only way is to fit in a 1.8'' disk with a Zif adapter.
Bye

@jkkmobile do you know if i can replace my ssd with a hard drive a normal one ?
vmmc2 10 months ago
@davidakadb Any investments put into a Dell is a horrible waste of money. The Dell in the first place is an unnecessary expense.
If you wanted a computer that's good for nothing, you should have just pulled the old i386 out of the cupboard.
