  • This is a fine sounding axe.....Good picking too

  • Nice video

  • Is this Yates a mahogany model or maple? It sounds great!!!!!!

  • Yates is pretty good, but they have an annoying whine in the strings, especially the first. For some reason, every one I have tried sounds that way. This one sounds the exact same: good tone, but still that sharp whine on the first string. It also lacks some power. I bought one because of several good player's "advice" and regret the discision to buy. Osborne Chief, the new Huber HR-30, and Dannick are much sweeter and louder. I played a Kel Lroydon next to the Yates and there was no comparison.

  • @teakbridge101

Let me trade you something for your Yates!

  • I am sorry to report that I sold it months ago to someone else. I am so sorry! I have purchased a new pot assembly from Huber with the 850$ new tone ring...now that is one banjo.

  • @teakbridge101 the only whine i hear is from you. you need to learn how to play your own banjo in time before you bash somebody elses banjo. yates are good, better than than buzzing huber of yours

  • @bobbysbanjo haha, buzzing Huber of mine? lol, did you even listen to the lastest instruction videos I have uploaded with the HR-30 in there? Dolby Digital sound there, pal, and no buzzing. I never said Yates is NOT good at all...I merely pointed out things I personally don't like about them having played them myself. An opinion is my right, and if you have a problem with that, you need to get a life. plus, I am sorry, but my banjo sounds awesome right now. Go listen and you'll hear.

  • @teakbridge101 your banjo sounds bad like your timing. i suggest a metronome and a new bridge. you criticize the mans banjar on his video, you are one that needs to get a life.

  • @bobbysbanjo Well, bobby, I think you are mistaking what I was saying about Yates in the first place. I never was criticising this fellow's banjo in the video...I was talking about what I have found Yates to sound like to my ear. I was merely stating the things that I have noticed Yates do when I have heard them in person. Remember, I have played my share of Yates, and have owned his tone rings. I just don't like the sound a great deal. That has nothing to do with this fellow's banjo.

  • @bobbysbanjo If I could restate what I feel about Yates, I would like to explain it as John Hartford once did about the difference between him and Ralph Stanley: John said "I like his sound for him." To put it similarly, I like the Yates sound for others. When I hear Ron, Donny, and some other amateur pickers I know, I like the Yates sound for THEM. I personally do not and I gave my reasons for it. Pure and simple. Not trying to be mean. I think, however, you ARE trying to be mean.

  • @teakbridge101 Your gibson blackjack....Is that the one with the HR-30? That's a fine banjer son....Man I wouldn't get rid of that thing...I love the flying eagle inlay too...My favorite! Sounds good....Nice picking too!

  • @bigmrclean ha, no it is just the standard Huber ring. Not too good of a fit, but it sounds pretty decent. I am not getting rid of it any time soon ;) I will be sending my banjo in to have a real good ring put in, soon though.

  • One of the best sounding banjo's I've heard

  • I pick up my RS Yates banjo in the month of October, when I was with

Warren in Hickory, I met Justin Moses, a real fantastic man on

banjo, he plays together with Dan Taminsky band in the U.S..

He tested my banjo and played Pike County Breakdown it was so coooool

A trip I will never forget.
