These girls were/ are HOTT! Destiny Child's "Cater to U" and Alicia Keys "Teenage Love Affair" videos channel this choreography... Timeless post!
Jazmine Guy is giving "it"! My eye always seems to go to her during this performance. Reminds me of the episode of A Different World when Whitley and Jaelsa sang back up for Gladys Knight.
The only thing that can describe this scene accurately was UNBE-WEAVE-ABLE! LOL DAMN, that was a lot of hair! School Daze is still my movie and this song is still good. Tisha was killing it!
Thanks for this - i have not seen this in 20 years. Living in the UK i can't tell you how much it meant as a young girl to see these beautiful black women singing this great song....it was amazing, blew my little mind. My fave was always the darker skinned girl in the middle.
I have a black great grandfather,a native great grandmother and a spanish great-great grandmother and that makes me BRAZILIAN.Why can´t USA think like that?
ilove love love this movie and this scene #favoriteeeee actually they were all beautiful and talented btw iam a dark skinned girl and my daughter is 10 times lighter than me , how ? Idk (her dad nor I are mixed that we know of) but our black is fierce regardless of the shade :) ijs
Jasmine guy was really gorgeous so pretty love her in a different world show i never knew she had lupus though for a very long time... that explains why she aged so fast she looks so different now god bless .
It's a shame that we can't even enjoy the song without tying in skin color. It was definitely a major premise of the movie, given that the light skin/dark skin riff was pretty high in the 80's. It's a shame that in 2011, we STILL talk about it, we STILL separate ourselves from each other. Jim Crow wasn't playin!
Man....thats when light skin girls thought they were the shit! I'm proud to be a dark skinned female! We age better! Jasmine Guy looks like shit now! Tisha looks ok but Black don't crack!
Every1 is so ignorant, I wasn't even born when this movie came out & I had to go through this from my own family, their all really darkskinned chocolate colored & I was the only 1 2cum out lighter & my fam used to make comments like,"Shutup before I slap the lightskinned off you & you'll be my color!" Or "I have to be careful when whoopin' Nicole bcuz she's2lightskinned & It'll leave marks4 ppl2C & report2D.F.A.C.S.!" Or light bright, ching chong, banana foo fana cuz ur yellow mexican. So dumb!!
If you have white/Amerindian/anything other than black ancestors then you are mixed. It does not have to be just your parents. Your grandparents, great grandparents, great great great... grandparents etc all count.
As for Tisha Campbell and the rest of these folks their mixed..it may be generations back (Not necessarily a slave master either it's been 150 years since the civil war. Their's time for allot of sex since then.)
@Quantumgeometer Well that means we're all mixed. I don't know any African-Americans with a 100% African ancestry. Hell, I have Portugese in mine...I'm still black.
@CVNHOUSTON Exactly. Why does that have to be an issue. Most white people in the US have one drop of African American blood (The ones who aren't recent 4th or 5th generation immigrants i.e. George Bush and Obamas "white" mother).
If you are mostly African or Mostly white feel free to claim that. Some of us are not mostly anything. Heck I'm about equal parts white and black with significant Amerindian ancestry so I claim all of it and am proud of all of it.
@musiclover77able you are soo right cuz im dark skinned and my great grandmother was indian( dad's side) , my great aunt was white (mom's side) and my grandparents are biracial
I think it's fair to say that this musical number could now be considered a black film classic. I've seen it many times and it never grows old. African-American "diva-ness" at its FINEST!! Thank you Tisha, Jasmine, Paula and Angela for WORKIN' IT!! :-)
excellent scene,, they just dont make movies like this anymore tyler perry cant stand next to spike his movies are in the words of spike coonery bofoonery!
@Dinks70designs well she got the cowardly lions blond weave like beyonces had and remember cater 2 u dance with the shiny dresses in the desert.Alicia keys tried this also and she shouldnt have.
@blahblahblahman you are ignorant as fuck! IF SOMEONE BLEACHES THEIR SKIN ITS THERI BUSINESS! WHITE PEOPLE DONT OWN LIGHT SKIN!ASIANS ARE LIGHTER THAN WHITES AND SO ARE MANY ETHNICITIES! I know of fair skin white people who lighten their skin to look lighter! some ppl prefer light skin, deal with it! plus the sun darkens people! i seen people who are really light get really dark from the sun! so there are many factors! but it aint ur business! get outta here! dumb ass prick
@markee871 This right here...You obviously have issues coming at a person about nonsense five thousand years after a post was made. Wait, is this about your god Beyonce??? Carry on heathen.
about other comments about beyonce copying this dance routine and dancing like them while on stage... lay off of beyonce, ok?! just because she may have copied this dance or formed similar dances, what matters is that she learned from the best!
@Scottvampwolf I agree with u but she didn't copy them she was taught the dances by the cheorgraphers who made it up they just re invent the dances the Beyonce does,..n if anyone copied it would be ALICA keys in her Teenage love affair she is doing the same dances they are doing this video.
@Lordfinese19 i totally agree, but it still proves a point. they are just hating because she's making a living, and what are they doing? absolutely nothing.
First off I don't see where any of these ladies look white. White women can be beautiful too but I'm sorry, only a black woman can fill out that kind of dress like that. Personally my favorites in this were Valda and Miriam.
Next, people will be claiming Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins from R&B/Pop girl group TLC or Raven-Symone, are mixed, too. It's a shame. Only the ignorant will ignore our peoples lineage, but to think that most (if not all) lighter skinned blacks are "mixed", is beyond ignorant.
Not every light skinned black person is mixed or biracial, as many have already said on this board, we(blacks) come in ALL shades and hair textures. My skin is light and BOTH my parents are black. My mother is a milk chocolate brown and my father is caramel color and I am the same complexion as Jasmine Guy.
texhnically, her biography didn't mention anything about her being mix or biracial. sorry ppl who think she mix well she isn't. maybe her ancester or great-grand but she has orange dye hair, and green contacts on, and of course she fair. just accept that she is what she is black
@musiclover77able African's don't come naturally light-skinned with long hair. Odds are somewhere down the line of her ancestry she has some mixture, however, her dominant race is of course Black.
@KraXoom I know will they shut the fuck up...always tryna say everyone is black, not that that is a bad thing..i was just pointing out she was a pretty biracial person. Or whatever df she is apparently, SOME MIX.
@LCBpink Really, have you ever been to Africa or are you just spouting out what you feel is necessary to defend your own delusions? Eastern and Southern Africans are predominantly dark. If you by chance happen upon a light-skinned African with Tisha Campbell's shade in those parts then odds are they're from Northern Africa since that region is the Arab nations. But if you want to continue believing Africans can look White and still be %100 pure Black then have at it.
@KraXoom That is exactly why I said Africans I did not specify what country, neither did you in your first comment. It's no delusion it is a fact that Africans come in different shades. I never once said that Africans can look white and I was not referring to the shade of Tisha Campbell alone.
@KraXoom I know what I was talking about. When I was reading your first comment it felt like you were saying all Africans look a certain way. Anyway we're putting way too much energy into something that benefits no one. Peace.
@CurlyHead827 Plenty of black people have "fine" hair. The hair texture that we most associate with whites originated in East Africa (Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea)
@CurlyHead827 And that means what exactly? How exactly are you defining mixed heritage? The average African American, for example, has 20% European ancestry. Black Latinos, have similar racial admixture. Given the racial admixture diversity within black ethnic groups, their hair textures are obviously going to vary, as does eye color, nose shape, and skin tone without them ... become educated
@detroit46 I said i love biracial women...and i get attacked on the comment section, i swear black people are so deffensive when it comes to this race stuff. CTFU! Damn...shes mixed, thats my point. Done.
@CurlyHead827 Where did I attack you? I was simply correcting you. If she's mixed, then so is 90% of the black American community. Jasmine guy is biracial, Tisha Campbell-Martin is not. That's my point. It's as simple as that. Then again, you seem like the stubborn type, so I doubt theres any getting through to you. Finished.
@detroit46 Not stubborn, and she's to light to just be black...she is multi-racial, and clearly does not look 100% african...she clearly has more white or native american in her than most black people, so GTF.
@CurlyHead827 actually she was birthed to 2 african american parents black ppl just come in many shades like my family we have many different shades of black. im about just as light as tisha campbell martin and im black.
@mzlovelyone1 I'm light skinned, and my parents are 2 light skinned african americans, who have Native American and European ancestory...we even have pictures, so please define BLACK?
@CurlyHead827 Mixed / Biracial means that one of your parents are of a different race and since BOTH of Tisha Campbells parents are BLACK therefore she is BLACK, simple as that.
@Magic9053 She like most African Americans probably have mixed heritage. That might be a more correct term to use. Saying biracial usually means that the parents are two different "races".
@DigitalDezinesCEO She probably has a white gene back in her ancestry (as you said like most AA, thanks to SLAVERY), but she's not biracial, you make a good point though.
@girraud I am responding to the ones who think she is REALLY bi-racial. And WHERE in this movie does it say that she is playing a bi-racial woman ? The issue in Scool Daze is light and dark skinned BLACK people, it said nothing about bi-racial, that's a whole different issue.
@Magic9053 Okay, I can't believe that some people actually think a person is bi-racial because they're light skin. The genetics of black people are very fickle. I mean, I know dark skin people who have lighter skin offspring. Light skin - dark skin and anything in between is so played out. I hope our race is beyond colorism; althoughl, I know it still exist in other ethnic groups.
@girraud yes you are right. It happens in Latin American cultures and ethnic groups. I guess because the history is similar. Here in the USA, they killed the indigenous natives, brought the African slaves & the European owners raped or formed affairs with the Africans, forming this long lineage of different shaded black people. On the otherhand in Latin America, the Europeans used the indigenous natives as slaves, raped them & after generations created this mixed race called "mestizo".
(continued) Or "mulatto" because later in history the Spanish and the Portuguese did bring African slaves to Latin America and mixed as well... the only difference with Latin America & here is that, labeling black vs while isn't much of an issue...instead one is described by your shade either you are "negro", "prieto", "guero", "moreno" ...& usually a family includes all these shades..but since people still have a colonized mentality most people consider the "gueros" prettier...
slowly but surely though that idea of "guero" being prettier is changing, and it should change here too..being darker skinned shouldn't be a bad thing...& food for thought: we love using the the terms to describe shade as endearment..so don't be offended when a Spanish-speaking person says "mi negrito lindo", it's a good thing...Latin American society is changing, & black is beautiful (:

about other comments about beyonce copying this dance routine and dancing like them while on stage... lay off of beyonce, ok?! just because she may have copied this dance or formed similar dances, what matters is that she learned from the best!
Just keep your hating comments to urselves, ok???
Scottvampwolf 8 months ago
@Scottvampwolf I agree with u but she didn't copy them she was taught the dances by the cheorgraphers who made it up they just re invent the dances the Beyonce does,..n if anyone copied it would be ALICA keys in her Teenage love affair she is doing the same dances they are doing this video.
Lordfinese19 8 months ago
@Lordfinese19 i totally agree, but it still proves a point. they are just hating because she's making a living, and what are they doing? absolutely nothing.

@Scottvampwolf Thank you,

My mom looked just like this in her high school prom picture. lol. Great Song!!
zeus91jj 8 months ago
Not every light skinned black person is mixed or biracial, as many have already said on this board, we(blacks) come in ALL shades and hair textures. My skin is light and BOTH my parents are black. My mother is a milk chocolate brown and my father is caramel color and I am the same complexion as Jasmine Guy.
Magic9053 8 months ago 2
texhnically, her biography didn't mention anything about her being mix or biracial. sorry ppl who think she mix well she isn't. maybe her ancester or great-grand but she has orange dye hair, and green contacts on, and of course she fair. just accept that she is what she is black
sundayluv1 8 months ago
@musiclover77able African's don't come naturally light-skinned with long hair. Odds are somewhere down the line of her ancestry she has some mixture, however, her dominant race is of course Black.
KraXoom 8 months ago
@KraXoom I know will they shut the fuck up...always tryna say everyone is black, not that that is a bad thing..i was just pointing out she was a pretty biracial person. Or whatever df she is apparently, SOME MIX.
CurlyHead827 8 months ago
@KraXoom Actually African's do come in different shades and hair length has nothing to do with race. Seriously.
LCBpink 8 months ago
@LCBpink Really, have you ever been to Africa or are you just spouting out what you feel is necessary to defend your own delusions? Eastern and Southern Africans are predominantly dark. If you by chance happen upon a light-skinned African with Tisha Campbell's shade in those parts then odds are they're from Northern Africa since that region is the Arab nations. But if you want to continue believing Africans can look White and still be %100 pure Black then have at it.
KraXoom 8 months ago
@KraXoom That is exactly why I said Africans I did not specify what country, neither did you in your first comment. It's no delusion it is a fact that Africans come in different shades. I never once said that Africans can look white and I was not referring to the shade of Tisha Campbell alone.
LCBpink 8 months ago
@LCBpink Oh don’t try to make this into an issue. You know exactly what both you and I were talking about.
KraXoom 8 months ago
@KraXoom I know what I was talking about. When I was reading your first comment it felt like you were saying all Africans look a certain way. Anyway we're putting way too much energy into something that benefits no one. Peace.
LCBpink 8 months ago
@musiclover77able she has mixed heritage...clearly..black people dont have hair that fine.
CurlyHead827 9 months ago
@CurlyHead827 FUCK YOU!!
Mspendragon72 8 months ago
@Mspendragon72 right back at cha black ass !
CurlyHead827 8 months ago
@CurlyHead827 Plenty of black people have "fine" hair. The hair texture that we most associate with whites originated in East Africa (Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea)
detroit46 8 months ago
@detroit46 They were the first humanoids who have mingled in with the Arabs .... get smart.
CurlyHead827 8 months ago
@CurlyHead827 And that means what exactly? How exactly are you defining mixed heritage? The average African American, for example, has 20% European ancestry. Black Latinos, have similar racial admixture. Given the racial admixture diversity within black ethnic groups, their hair textures are obviously going to vary, as does eye color, nose shape, and skin tone without them ... become educated
detroit46 8 months ago
@detroit46 I said i love biracial women...and i get attacked on the comment section, i swear black people are so deffensive when it comes to this race stuff. CTFU! Damn...shes mixed, thats my point. Done.
CurlyHead827 8 months ago
@CurlyHead827 Where did I attack you? I was simply correcting you. If she's mixed, then so is 90% of the black American community. Jasmine guy is biracial, Tisha Campbell-Martin is not. That's my point. It's as simple as that. Then again, you seem like the stubborn type, so I doubt theres any getting through to you. Finished.
detroit46 8 months ago
@detroit46 Not stubborn, and she's to light to just be black...she is multi-racial, and clearly does not look 100% african...she clearly has more white or native american in her than most black people, so GTF.
CurlyHead827 8 months ago
@CurlyHead827 actually she was birthed to 2 african american parents black ppl just come in many shades like my family we have many different shades of black. im about just as light as tisha campbell martin and im black.
mzlovelyone1 8 months ago
@mzlovelyone1 I'm light skinned, and my parents are 2 light skinned african americans, who have Native American and European ancestory...we even have pictures, so please define BLACK?
CurlyHead827 8 months ago
@CurlyHead827 ok and..........black meaning im african american. Did i state something wrong because i wasnt trying to offend you or anyone else
mzlovelyone1 8 months ago
@CurlyHead827 Mixed / Biracial means that one of your parents are of a different race and since BOTH of Tisha Campbells parents are BLACK therefore she is BLACK, simple as that.
Magic9053 8 months ago 26
@Magic9053 She like most African Americans probably have mixed heritage. That might be a more correct term to use. Saying biracial usually means that the parents are two different "races".
DigitalDezinesCEO 6 months ago
@DigitalDezinesCEO She probably has a white gene back in her ancestry (as you said like most AA, thanks to SLAVERY), but she's not biracial, you make a good point though.
Magic9053 6 months ago
@DigitalDezinesCEO Now Jasmine Guy on the other hand IS biracial because she has a white mom and a black dad, that's the difference.
Magic9053 6 months ago
@Magic9053 You do know she was acting in this movie, right? She was playing a bi-racial woman.
girraud 6 months ago
@girraud I am responding to the ones who think she is REALLY bi-racial. And WHERE in this movie does it say that she is playing a bi-racial woman ? The issue in Scool Daze is light and dark skinned BLACK people, it said nothing about bi-racial, that's a whole different issue.
Magic9053 6 months ago 2
@Magic9053 Okay, I can't believe that some people actually think a person is bi-racial because they're light skin. The genetics of black people are very fickle. I mean, I know dark skin people who have lighter skin offspring. Light skin - dark skin and anything in between is so played out. I hope our race is beyond colorism; althoughl, I know it still exist in other ethnic groups.
girraud 6 months ago
@girraud Unfourtunately, our race still has major issues with skin color, sad but true.
Magic9053 6 months ago
@girraud yes you are right. It happens in Latin American cultures and ethnic groups. I guess because the history is similar. Here in the USA, they killed the indigenous natives, brought the African slaves & the European owners raped or formed affairs with the Africans, forming this long lineage of different shaded black people. On the otherhand in Latin America, the Europeans used the indigenous natives as slaves, raped them & after generations created this mixed race called "mestizo".
muhreuh1 5 months ago
(continued) Or "mulatto" because later in history the Spanish and the Portuguese did bring African slaves to Latin America and mixed as well... the only difference with Latin America & here is that, labeling black vs while isn't much of an issue...instead one is described by your shade either you are "negro", "prieto", "guero", "moreno" ...& usually a family includes all these shades..but since people still have a colonized mentality most people consider the "gueros" prettier...
muhreuh1 5 months ago
slowly but surely though that idea of "guero" being prettier is changing, and it should change here too..being darker skinned shouldn't be a bad thing...& food for thought: we love using the the terms to describe shade as endearment..so don't be offended when a Spanish-speaking person says "mi negrito lindo", it's a good thing...Latin American society is changing, & black is beautiful (:
muhreuh1 5 months ago
@Magic9053 Exactly ...I have been told by quite a few that I look alot like Tisha, and my parents were, actually, darker than I...
