  • Great of Jonny!!

  • otra del Johnny....¡¡¡

  • Why was the US vid in black and white, while the UK vid was in color? Kept JHJ from bein' a 1-hit wonder in the states. They hit #31 in Billboard, 8-27-88. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • thumbs up if you think this song is better than shattered dreams.

  • I'm really looking forward to their new album which is announced for end of this year!! :-)

  • love this song

  • loved this song back in the 80s. thanks for putting it up!

  • fucking terrible music for fucking terrible people

  • @Silverbluecrest Hmmm... are you Australian or lower-class British, or someone whose first language is not English? (For some reason, like smoking, non-English speakers think it's "really cool" to say "fuck" as much as possible.)

  • I had this album on cassette......it seems to have disappeared from my tape collection though....

  • I knew what this song meant when i heard it off the album but it seems to have gotten a deeper meaning over the years, i have never figured out why this group never did a follow up album

  • I knew what this song meant when i heard it off the album but it seems to have gotten a deeper meaning over the years

  • I have always been a big johnny hates jazz fan. Now that i'm all grown up, i finally understand the true meaning of this song. Good stuff!

  • Im 37 and i remember this song well.. Although, when it was released I didnt quite understand the meaning of the song.. I dont really agree with the lyrics I cant help but like it because of the era was such a great time for me. Oh Im from the US and I remember it being played every once in a while.

  • the dislike bar is as big as justin beibers dick

  • @SilverCreature1190 thats gettin a bit old, although still holds grandeur relevance

  • don't let shattered dreams fool you. "i don't want to be a hero" is the absolute best johnny hates jazz song.

  • your,not,a,hero,i,saw,a,man,age,same,as,you,he,worked,with,a,car,clean,the,streets,weet,je,what,jy,kan,ik,word,knap,geirriteerd,nu,op,jou,flikker,op,zoek,een,ander,vitim,to,chatt,jy,bent,zo,bang,om,te,leven,en,bedankt,kryg,de,tyfes,goodbay,angelique

  • Wow... My mother always told me that this song was the reason we left SA during Apartheid. Cos she didn't want me ending up in the army.

  • great oldie(it qualifies!) it suit all times, even right now it sounds so pleasing to the ears!music tt can last the vicissitudes of life!

  • nagyon jó zene

  • what a bass!

  • Comment removed

  • @Luwangli I had the albums by Johnny Hates and AND Breathe, but I seem to have them mixed up with each other...

  • How can you not love Johnny Hates Jazz??????

Tons of hooks, good looks, great songs, they are the full package of what makes the 80's so great!

  • Que genial este tema por Diossssssss!!! amo escucharlo!!!

  • Timeless , a classic. Such a relevant song - gone are the days of powerfull evocative lyrics and music making. 80's is the best!

  • Even as a child I knew this song meant something intense. Now that I'm all grown up I can better appreciate it.

  • One of best bands of the 80s, sad they stopped after 1 album!

  • the first time I heared this song was in Kuwait 1988.

  • @hishonline I heard the song in Kuwait in 1988, too. I was an expat in Kuwait. I used to hear the Iraqis and Iranians bombing each other from a distance. I also remember hearing the song "Turn back the time" at one of my favorite Western style supermarkets not far from my place. It was cool being in a neighborhood with British, American, German, and Arab expats. It's a great song.

  • @QUINTUSMAXIMUS hello! kuwait was at its best back these days, and i believe the whole world was even better!

  • it's ok if you don't want to fight. The military is a volunteer force. We'll do the fighting for you... besides you'll only be in the way or get us all killed..

  • lol this is so cheesy.

  • listen to the lyrics understand it =live together we all human aright to live we all die oneday

  • where is this music now? what have we done?

  • Listening to these beautiful songs brings back many sweet memories and brings tears to my eyes, the days that will never comeback, the days when every cell in my body was dancing, full of hope, full of energy, full of life, full of love./// Viva 80's and may God curse the trashy music of today .../

  • i don't wanna die for W

  • Can anyone put a better quality version on here?

  • @Sarah38uk There is another video (the same song) posting by dorianstentorian. The video is clear, the audio is loud. Hope this helps...

  • Sorry to spoil the mood of you guys but don't you think this song borders on generalization. I mean such philosophy it's not good when we think about WW II. Without allied sacrifice and heroism the NAZI will not fall and the holocoust might continue. The songs melody are good but the lyrics kinda have narrow perspective

  • @jie4Him As far as World War II, it was a continuation of World War I where Germany was made to take all the blame for WWI, though Austria started it with Sebia, and the Germans felt humiliated by the reparatians and suffered in poverty and then followed a man who preached nationalism.

  • now with two wars based on lies yes two wars this song is more relevant then ever and i know people dont like hearing that but in america the only time you hear go usa is in a sporting event or if were bombing some country other then that we could wacth someone get shot or rob turn around walk away because we dont want to get involed ironic huh

  • dedicated to the men who have to fight for their country, often for the glory and greed of the politicians

  • i'm 24 and i love 80's music yeah!!!!

  • yes

  • Yeah, Rock on!!!

  • at 0:25 if u have a good year for music,u can hear the beat of i can make u feel good

  • I don't wanna be a Hero

I don't wanna Die for you.

    <3

  • I can hear it yeah!!! lol

  • I know you are all talking about war and the good bassline, but can't anyone hear 'I can make you feel good' by Shalamar in this???

  • You're not wrong, mate...

And if there is any sound of "Hot Line" in what you hear in Shalamar, just ask Leon... (Sylvers). Cream gets on top, for some strange reason. Cheers.

  • @rudeboy883 I listened to Shalamar's and up to the first 11 seconds I could hear a lot of similarity.

  • @rudeboy883 Yes, it sounded a little bit like Shalamar's "I Can Make You Feel Good" - almost same chord progressions and rhythms

  • Pretty song and I'm 41 and I don't remeber it either I didn't to the radio much either the only time I could really listen to the radio was when my parents was gone to the store or something but it is a pretty song.

  • I am 33 and my Brother used to play this when I was little!! wow I feel old!!

  • wow im 45 and dont remember this maybe us stations really didnt play it much and we all know tv is goverment run i wonder how many of our us boys think of this knowing there dying for a country thats dying in its own path of greed

  • Reminding me the young age! Thanks for sharing this out!

  • Yes, another good song from the 80s. Love this !!

  • A song that should have been many years ago.....too bad the vets didn't hear this. Thanks for the up kenedict!

  • Another great song that no one seems to remember or plays.

  • no its not

  • I do remember, i have tons and tons of songs from the 80s on my computer and on CD, and this is one of them !! It was such a good music !!

  • It was the group's only other U.S. Top 40 (went to #31).

  • I don't want to be an hero. lawls. :D

  • i still have this tape!

  • Ironically, this song is more relevant today that it was when it was first written.

  • This song is definitely more relevant today. We've been brainwashed to fight imperial wars run by elites that keep getting bailed out while bankrupting the middle class and then sending the middle class and poor to fight their wars. Desert Storm in 1991 was based on lies.

Saddam felt he could invade Kuwait, then the US comes to the rescue, then the mess brought the US into conflict with Al Qaeda, and now our boys are in Afghanistan and Iraq thanks to the jingoistic imperialist types.

  • A year ago I would disagree with you strongly.

  • What made you shift your thinking? Anything in particular? For me, the whole lies about WMD isn't new. There were lies based on Desert Storm in 1991, though few people know about it. Bush senior took advantage of the fact that the Soviets were out of the picture in 1990, Saddam could have been told not to cross the border, he felt he could, and he did, and then Knowlton-Hill told a Kuwaiti royal family girl to say on TV that Iraqi soldiers threw babies out of incubators. We went to war.

  • @QUINTUSMAXIMUS Best speech I've heard in a LONG time ..

  • @Martijnnaber We needed a song like this more than "I am proud to be an American", because I love the people but not the government and flags and nationalism are used as mind control to give people a false sense of self-worth, in some cases based on ommissions.

  • @QUINTUSMAXIMUS i dont see any poloticians children there bring our boys home

  • @QUINTUSMAXIMUS 100% 4 peps in my family are in afgan due to things like this you make good point quin.

  • @QUINTUSMAXIMUS And you and you alone know this? I'm just curious. How? Did you serve?

  • @beaagent29p Dude, I followed politics since I was a little kid. I even lived overseas in Kuwait. I remember the US Embassy being bombed, following Saddam's career and warning about him in 1990. Look, it's a chess game. Saddam chose to invade when the Soviet Union was gone. Didn't realize he was expendable, and the chess pieces are soldiers for major states. You just have to know how to use them and when and how, unfortunately.

  • @QUINTUSMAXIMUS I started to respond in the negative but I took the time to read ALL your responses. Though thought provoking, your point of view is respected. I thought you were just another anti-war freak but in reality you're just someone that loves this country in your own way. No harm, no foul but the voice of some that just think about it. Rock on.

  • @beaagent29p Am I anti-war? In a way, yes. I only believe in violence as a last resort as a tool for self-defense, not to use soldiers as a tool. I knew what was up with the Iraq War before it happened and warned people about the results. Do I want thousands of American soldiers dead and lots of debt. No. Yes, I love America and the people. I don't like our people toyed with. The Iraqis will benefit for our mistakes, we suffer from it. I wish us the best.

  • @QUINTUSMAXIMUS You are 1 voice in the 1000's that could give 2 cents in whats happening. I RESPECT THAT. They'd rather turn to what entertains. Crowded House's "Don't dream its over" is a prime example of 1 voice delivering a message. Nobody listened. There's power in numbers. Not silent numbers.

  • @QUINTUSMAXIMUS Been reading any Karl Marx lately?

  • @dcavner No, I haven't read Karl Marx lately. Have you ever actually read his works?

I don't agree with communism, but he is right about some things just as Rousseau and Voltaire were right about many things and Thomas Jefferson and Locke. It's about liberty. There is no liberty if we are led as tools by other people. Have you been reading what's happening in Afghanistan?

  • @dcavner What about Karl Marx? I have read Adam Smith, Karl Marx, John Locke, Rousseau. They all have their good points. I don't believe in the simple invisible hand of Smith but believe in the general ideas of capitalism, but like Marx and Rousseau I am not fond of ideologies that enchain man. All men are born free and others want to chain them for whatever ideology de jour.

  • @QUINTUSMAXIMUS I appreciate your comments, not a Communist myself yet understanding that this world is run by elites who play with other people´s lives. Even Capitalism may end up as an ideology used by others to enchain people.

  • @Arnolchuarze09 I am not a communist at all, though I respect some of the ideas of Karl Marx. Communism emerged as an idea because of the negative aspects of capitalism that are destructive to humankind, and the former pope, who I respected in some ways, objected to both communism and extreme American style capitalism. Both are destructive forces, IMHO. The Americans are not alone. It's some elites who are let to operate without some proper supervision.

  • @QUINTUSMAXIMUS Kuwait was our buddies, they are a very Americanized nation. Of course we're going to lend a helping hand to them.

  • @PJHunterTJ The error made regarding Kuwait was George Bush senior knew Iraq had 80,000 soldiers on the border before the invasion and Saddam Hussein indicate he may attack Kuwait, and the ambassador told Saddam Hussein it was an internal issue. The tune changed when he actually invaded Kuwait, so it seems like Saddam fell into a trap, and those who had US empire rather than republic ideas like Bush senior got us the mess we have today.

    It could have been avoided.

  • @PJHunterTJ Furthermore, when Iraq did invade Kuwait the American people were falsely told that Iraqis removed Kuwaiti babies from incubators. It was not true. The young girl making that claim was not identified by CNN as a member of the Kuwaiti royal family. That was used as the casus belli in the war, reason to go to war. There was deception before and after the invasion of Kuwait.

I lived in Kuwait before and empathized with wanting to free them, but not the empire games.

  • It is just music political idiot.

  • @messiahofdesire The song was written by the band's lead singer and main songwriter, Clark Datchler. It has a strong anti-war sentiment and is written from the perspective of a soldier who is questioning their participation in what they consider an unjust war. The band's American record company were reluctant to release the single in the U.S. because of its anti-war stance.[2] The song makes references to conscription and propaganda.

  • @QUINTUSMAXIMUS

I agree with you whole heartedly.

My friend Antony died in the London bus bombing.

It turned out it was done by MI5 and blamed on a muslim to heighten support for the elites war.

Thanks for this post kenedict - takes me back to a moor carefree time.

  • @QUINTUSMAXIMUS You're an idiot. When the terrorists come beating at your door, I hope you piss in your pants. Maybe you would have been a Nazi sympathizer back in WWII as well.

  • @MasterJediDude Master Jedi? Your thoughts betray you. Just kidding. How would I have been a Nazi sympathizer? I am a social democrat and believe in democracy. Two, I have actually lived in Kuwait and called up a friend on August 1st warning him Saddam would invade. I also some months ago warned people I knew in Kuwait that Saddam was going to do something reckless soon. I also long saw the danger of supporting religious fanatics. I am not the idiot who did that. It was Uncle Sam. Not I.

  • @MasterJediDude I would also add that prior to the invasion of Iraq, I warned people I knew in Texas that it was naive to go in there without proper planning and that when they thought the war was over, it would begin. I was not surprised by the Arab revolutions, either. I figured Mubarak's time was up. I can understand fighting terrorists and terrorism, but promoting policies that encourages more violence and promotes terrorism is counterproductive and even intelligence people have said it.

  • You have a valid point

  • why is that ironic

  • If YouTube allowed such a feature, I would draw diagrams for you.

  • This is unbelievably cheesy! We are learning about WWI in school and we watched a video of British recruitment posters with this song over the top and loads of guys begged for it to be put on mute...nice bassline though...

  • so 80's fantastic

  • wow! i didn't know this song was anti-war! Make love, not war!

  • Muito legal essa música.....tipo de melodia q curto escutar..... 80's lives on!

  • great song

the name of the band is ironic ;)

so I love Jazz and black music :)

  • WTF, What did Jazz ever do to Johnny?

  • i dont want to be a hero, i dont wanna die for you

    german translation:

ich will kein Held sein, ich will nicht für dich sterben

dieses Lied ergibt wenigstens einen Sinn xD

  • Memories...

  • Oh, so many childhood memories from this song. Brings me right back to those times on its first note. Love it.

  • rmwright11221979 i know man i did download with HQ OPTION Bbut the quality doesent look so good

  • Are you wanting to download it or something? Because there is a button below the video screen with HQ on it for high quality.

  • Style AND substance--take note, modern "producers."

  • As long as Minorities and Jews live you white people will never gain world dominination. God will not rest until all human kind is treated fair and peace and justice will rein for all. Your trust and acceptance to guns will not be an answer. If you rely on your guns good luck!!

  • Xbroncos, you forgot about everything else that is not human.

    Open your eyes.

  • xbroncos forgot about the entire Asain Continent and Pacific Islanders, too. On a global scale, white people are not the majority. I don't know about the specific white person he thinks is wanting world domination, unless he's living in a time warp and it's 1938 in Germany....Although he's right about one thing: God will not rest, ever.

  • you white people? Jews are also white whatever white means or minority means.

    you're stereotyping based on color

  • Well, basically he is singing that the Vietnam war isnt what is was cut out to be.... alot of lost lives and the feeling that I dont want to be a hero and die for a lost cause, not for me or the Red White or Blue! A sad song that kinda reflects the Vietnam war.....but a song that touches the heart no matter. Thanks for the up!

  • you obviously have a high fucking opinion of yourself like most modern day Americans

do yourself a favour before you make comments on uneducated people, get yourself to Europe, visit Colleville cemetary, it has 12000 US military personell in it, do you reckon many of them had ever heard of Normandy?

fortunately those people represent YOUR country not you, you uneducated red neck trailer park trash son of a ho with undoubtedtly a "dog the bounty hunter" mullet for a hair cut..

    Have a nice day

  • Who you calling Limeys you septic

  • Wow, he totally ripped a portion of the beat from Shalamar's - "I Can Make You Feel Good." i hope he paid royalty...

  • Wow ;)

  • pish but good pish in a pishi sort of way

  • Its amazing this song was a hit in the States when it was released. Now, if that song had to be released, it would be banned.

  • And they said socialism was bad...

  • This song is to all the people that have murdered babies in the wombs of their mothers.

    LIFE FOR LIFE.

  • fool

  • Dear Mr Bush,

All is in the song, Nuff said.

  • I dont to be a hero!!!

  • This song still sounds funky to this day! The band and the lead singer must have been charged up in the studio recording this song. Love the horns and the drummer crashing the cymbals in the chorus.

  • Copado!!!

  • this song should be played in this generation when young kids are being sent to Iraq to die!

  • GREAT!!!!!!!! WONDERFULLL SONG

  • I actually recorded this song off the radio in 1988. It was probably the only time it was ever played!

  • Awesome song, nevr heard this on radio stations.

  • One of the best songs ever. "And what if I fail

Will you put me in jail

For a murder I will not commit?

    cos you dont understand

Till theres blood on your hands

That its time to forget and forgive"

  • woooooo so there.

  • F*cking Americans. JHJ were a British pop group. This tune has fuck all to do with American warmongering. Stick your propaganda up your arse America. It's a disgrace you've tried to sully this song.

  • Wrong wrong wrong. Try to do a little research.

  • And who the hell are you Brits to pick on America?

  • A vast majority of us come to the states to work and make a living. There's a select group that i know you're attempting to pinpoint. Blame the politicians and media. The people have little to do/control of what goes on. We're just lemmings in this society.

  • oh man, love this song!

  • alright dude calm down chill

  • Wonderful music from a wonderful decade. Takes me back in time to some great memories of the 80´s and a fantastic time.

  • Wonderful music from a wonderful decade. Takes me back in time to some great memories of the 80´s and a fantastic time.

  • Wonderful music from a wonderful decade. Takes me back in time to some great memories of the 80´s and a fantastic time.

  • Wonderful music from a wonderful decade. Takes me back in time to some great memories of the 80´s and a fantastic time.

  • i just thank god there were HEROS that did die for our freedom. The very freedom to hold a sign that tells this shitt government to go pound sand!...THANK YOU ALL WHO SERVE !

  • Cretinous comment indeed.

"Support the Troops" is the catchcry for those who don't want to question their nation's motives for waging war.

  • Wrong answer dumbass! "Support the Troops" is a reminder for all Americans of the mistakes the "liberals" made in condemning the Vietnam soldiers who didn't have a choice whether to fight! The soldiers who have volunteered to fight Bush's immoral war on terror were sold on a lie but are doing what they're ordered to do. They people responsible are the corrupt politicians that fabricated the conditions for war to remain in power and keep a hold on the last of the oil! Traitors that should hang!

  • The entire nation both hawks and doves scorned the Vietnam war vets. It took the consensus of both parties to agree to send thousands to war. The military industrial complex kept the war going so that those that were making money off of the war could continue to make millions from it, while our troops paid either with their lives, or by barely being able to hold unto their sanity when they came home. Greed has no party affiliation.

  • Barack Hussien Obama in 08 baby!

  • The lyrics of this song are timeless. One of the all-time great anti-war songs.

  • One of the all-time 'great', Brit-pop, late 80s, Stock-Aitken-Waterman, bland, meaningless, tedious, production-line examples of that era's musical fluff.

Do you think "I Should Be So Lucky" is some sort of a soldier's anthem???

With the greatest respect, get a grip mate!

  • looks very factual but its not a SAW hit im afraid;

    Label Virgin Records

    Writer(s) Clark Datchler

Producer Calvin Hayes / Mike Nocito

  • the only true good artist from stock aitken waterman was rick astley he was the only one that wrote songs for himself

  • Agree. And he quit! (Good on 'im for that :)

  • and anyway whatever anybody thinks this should be re-released with new footage of people who have needlessly died in wars because of the bastards that are in the governments around the world THEY ARE NOW SENDING KIDS TO FIGHT THEIR FILTHY WARS

  • This song would have been great if they played it all over during the beginning of the Iraq War. The Iraq War was an act of arrogance. To some extent, all those American soldiers were not fighting for America. They were actually fighting for Israel, the wrong country. The oil companies don't actually push for those wars. That's a myth. The oil companies don't mind dealing with dictators like Saddam. All those 5,000 young men died for nothing.

  • Quintus, get a life.

  • @Mobra50 Your comment makes sense in connection to something I said?

  • I won't die for George, Dick, Condi, or Hillary. If they send me off to war, they'll have to come and drag me out with the .44 Magnum Round lodged in my head that leaves my brains splattered all over the stars & stripes.

    So There.

  • best Under the Radar song of the decade

  • I would die for any leader!! They wouldn't for me!
