I still remember how hard and frustrating the first try with the Voyager ammo belts was. Meanwhile it's not a big thing anymore but it still takes some time to bend the belts of course. In my opinion th result is worth the additional work.
Just a thought on painting the bullet part. perhaps a puddle of paint,and the round dipped into it,and the excess wipped off? Or have the paint thin enough to self level after dipping? I use the similar method when painting yellow propellor blade tips.

they look so much better than plastic but it does take a long time.
