@songloi Hey, depending where you are, there are teams within your area. In this video there are 3 teams involved so if you're in Orange County then you can hook up with one of them.
Do you guys make tutorial video? I would like to know how to do both the moves at 2:09, the spin and the flip. I don't really know what they are call, so if you can include name that would be great =)
@1234ya If you go down the comments, I posted a link on someone showing the "Dragon Whip" and the flip, aka One In the Chamber, was made up by the members of LTP. I don't believe they are intending to make tutorials for it as it is a dangerous move for the tail that requires a little more perfecting before they can make a tutorial.
LUV IT.i should stop thinkin my crew poo after i see lion dance vids lik this when we not all we need to do is belive in our self tht were the best, and we dnt need ppl to judge us to kno tht we are the best.
@bekko247 thank you for the compliment but this video was actually made by Wong Fu Productions. We, along with 2 other teams, provided the talent and they provided the rest. I didn't want to take credit for someone else's work. However, we are planning to work on another one and hopefully they can film it again.
@dukich5536 the way to hold the head varies with the person. One commonly use way if u r right handed is to hold the mouth with the left hand and the bar with your right. Even with this style of holding the head it varies from contemporary lion (e.g. palm facing upward) to tradition (e.g. palm facing forward). It is very hard to explain but it's best to try multiple ways and see what you feel comfortable and have most control with. Some dancers switch while dancing to suit the moves.
@neva2muchrice I hold the mouth with both of my hands most of the time, but when I lift it up I switch to my left hand on the mouth and my right hand on the bars. But I'm young so I'm kinda short.. so sometimes I hold it with one bar and the mouth closed so I can lift it up more so the lion doesn't look very short. (by the way, I made a new account, my old one was thejukeboxers)
@BattleKittyZ that's good technique as I know a few dancers that do the same thing. If the lion looks short then I think you need to switch to a smaller lion till you can grow into a bigger one. Emplion has some nice smaller size lions for a good price. Thanks for info thejukeboxers.
@Kniitte even if we can tell you, we wouldn't know how since you can see it on the video. We are not responsible for any injuries as this is a pretty dangerous stunt much like the backflip in which the tail and head rely on each other greatly to pull off. If you must try please proceed with caution.
@neva2muchrice hard since the custom is in the way and yes, i understand the consequences of doing dangerous moves like these since we ( our lion dance team ) want to be the best in seattle, we try to learn unique moves and further it into another level :)
@Kniitte thank you, we wanted to give something to the lion dance community. We discussed a bit about the move in earlier comments but we are still trying to perfect it so we rather not give tips and tutorial till it is safely to do so.
thank you for the kind words. The video is a collaboration between the hosting teams and Living Traditions Productions. Feel free to contact the respective team if you have one in mind. You may find them on our website.
Ah very nice Promo. =] I myself is into lion dance xD I should try the "One In The Chamber" think you can give any tips to try and do it? xD. And this is at UC Irvine right? xD
thank you for the compliment and do be careful when attempting the stunt. We gave a few tips and precaution in an earlier comment so you can look it up there. Yes, the event did take place at UCIrvine with teams from up and down California. We hope in the future we can get teams from other states.
BPX is a Lion Dance Exhibition, providing an open forum for lion dancers to come together and perform in an effort to display our craft and preserve our traditions
Man i was there in Irvine and saw it besides for fall twice the show was great. Great characteristics by the crab toy lion. How do you do the tail hold on to the head and kick his legs up high, very amazing.
we glad you enjoyed it and the feedbacks that everyone's giving us. Though falls are something to be careful for in lion dance, often not by the skill of the dancers but by miscalculations, it is really inspiring to see a team fall and get back up to finish the routine as hard as those teams did. It is better to have a bigger tail but I have seen tail that weigh 135lbs and head weighing 160lbs that can pull off a headsit. It's all about distributing weight and using momentum effectively.
it's essentially a side roll. We call it "One in the Chamber."
First step is have a padded floor. It's one of the scariest stunts because it goes so fast and there is a large margin for error. The techniques are unlike almost everything in lion dance. We might post a tutorial, gotta talk with the guys. First we have to get back into shape. :P
Went to the show yesterday. Awesome! Was really impressive show. Can't wait for next year's show! Really great showing from all the teams and the taiko drumming and wushu... man what an event! =)

this exhibition will be located in Southern California. Any teams who wish to participate are invited to try out. You don't have to be in the US to join but of course, you must be here on the day of the exhibition.
so when is the competition?? what kind of competition you all do?? is it TAI CHING??(mean stunt on the steal).. or just TI CHING (tranditional style)??
Thank you, ShadowLi. This is an exhibition to promote the teams and the art of lion dancing to the community. We're just trying to strengthen the art since it's not as big in the US as in Malaysia. This exhibition will involve props and ground movement but no jongs. As for the dance itself, the teams are free to present their styles and what they've learned.

Hi, we are throwing an event in Southern California where teams from anywhere can come and showcase their styles on an open arena. The dancers you see are located in So-cal but originally from different areas of the country. Your team looks very good and we wish you the best from the US.
Because of this exhibition, the Power Lions video was put on hold but a few people were recently assigned roles to continue the project. We hope to finish it some time in the fall but this exhibition is our main priority. Thank you for checking in.

Special consideration is suggested for back of the tail player and on the landing for the head player (i.e. beware of rolling your ankles).
