The Iraq war was illegal because it was a war of aggression and those are outlawed by your founding fathers. Further more the war was illegal in a broader sense as no declaration of war was given prior to invasion. Iraq was "bombed" even in peacetime.

In short, worse than the nazi invasion of Poland. (But definetly not worse than what came after with genocide and such ofcourse).
