  • CRAP!!! nothing like HDR what so ever!

  • Really enjoy your vids. "Oh, stuff that..." I laughed out loud! Like the way you get on with it. Can`t stand those tutorial vids where the guy groans on at a snail`s pace and doesn`t appear to have a clue what he`s doing. Nice image, by the way.

  • @linkbekka hahah cool glad you liked it!

  • OMG your keyboard it's driving me crazy

  • i really love your videos...symple,fast and helpfull!

  • This is definitely the best HDR Gimp tutorial on youtube. Thanks a lot dude, really helpful.

  • @The85thkid thanks, glad you liked it.

  • Thanks for uploading, was starting to think all gimp users needed 3rd party software to get good HDR effects.

btw what was the software you used before importing the pictures into gimp ?

  • @kraig800i all it takes is a little more time and attention to detail if just using gimp.

  • there's also a 'retinex' plugin under the colour menu, its a bit tricky to get a good looking HDR but it works pretty well

  • @LauraMamma He is using *.NEF files which is a RAW file for Nikon cameras. You can do it with JPEGs but the advantage of using RAW is the data is unaltered by any compression, therefore making more accurate, rich photos.

  • were the pictures you used RAW or JPEG?

  • hello @Dombowerphoto how didi u put ur face in the screen please help!

  • or just use a filter on your lens ;)

  • Hi thanks for the video, really helpful! Question: Is this method applicable to work with 3 or more pictures? thanks again!

  • You make me laugh :'D I love your tutorials, Subbed (Y)

  • Nice tutorial, but the name of this technique is DRI - dynamic range increase, not HDR. Check google to see differences.

  • This technique works even better on REAL HDR photos. After you create your HDR photo you can use the 3 original exposures (or however many you have) and mask them to the HDR to bring out any detail that may have been distorted by the HDR process.

  • what sort of gradient you normally use?

  • Thanks Dom!

What was that noise that was in your background??

I think now your on a Mac your Videos are far better quality and far better!

    Keep up the good work.

  • looks really great .. i also liked your photo .. :)

i made an HDR tutorial depending on a single RAW image .. using Apple's Aperture software .. take a look at it .. it's in arabic .. but it's obvious .. if you need anything to be translated just let me know and i'll be glad to help :)

  • These videos are the best, ever. Thanks again :)

  • i hear rain in the background! :D

  • what does gimp need to open Nikon RAW files? I use gimp too :)

    Thanks Dom :)

  • CTRL + V for VERY COOL :D

    haha

  • what is that noise in the background?

  • @colinstu really heavy rain!

  • DO you find gimp is just as good as lightroom?

  • @merrittixtapa79 no, its completely different

  • Dom, did you blog about your updated camera bag? If not, make a new video!!!!!

  • @baba321123 dont have much new, since the wedding bag video

  • hey dom, nice video. i have a request. now that you have switch to mac can you make a video commenting on your experience with it so far?

  • Tested a HDR Timelapse yet?

  • @heuykiller how would i do that??? do the editing to 600 individual photos? or do you know an easier way

  • @Dombowerphoto Actionscripts. Do it once then its one click for the rest of the photos... or you could load them into a mass editing program like Lightroom or Aperture. =]

  • @cm374360 only problem is i didnt take bracketed images for every shot, this was just a surprise shot. hdr time lapse would need thousands and thousands of shots!!!

  • Control Zed FTW! awesome tutorial Dom keep it up

  • dom use photoshop!!!

  • @popleo123 give me 600pounds and ill go buy it, then not use it very much

  • @Dombowerphoto Dom you lad. Cheers for the idea will be trying that out asap!

  • @Dombowerphoto LOL well said

  • Curious? Why not just do multiple exposure on your Nikon and merge them on board?

  • @Itchhhh Dom uses this method as well; it's just a demonstration of how to do it without taking multiple exposures. It's actually very useful if your camera doesn't support exposure bracketing.

  • @Itchhhh merge them on board???? what does that mean?

  • @Dombowerphoto : My D90 will allow you to shoot up to 3 images (one high exposure, one normal exposure, & one low exposure) The camera will merge all three shots into one picture. . . so in a sense it produces an HDR photo onboard the camera:) In many regards these types of photos look more realistic.

Likiwiguy87 has a very good video on how to do this watch?v=1EoRbVX7Drk

  • @Itchhhh ah the multiple exposure blending . have you tried it in a situation where there is a high dynamic range such as a sunset, unlike the office room shot in the video link you posted. if you have send me a pm with a link to the shots as i would be keen to see how yours have come out. i might do a video comparison later

  • @Itchhhh - i didnt know nikon d90 has a capability to merge the photos taken by bracketing to produce HDR results. can you teach me how?

  • @Itchhhh it doesnt quite have the same effect. have you tried

  • Is that your printer going off in the background, Dom? Good vid. I'm getting into GIMP in addition to LR3, just to get some more "manipulation" possibilities.
