Try using a capo and bringing up the sound so that you can sing it on tune. Sometimes we can't get it right till the guitar is higher or lower where we need the notes to be. Try putting a capo on the 3rd fret.
What's up with your D chord? Sometimes it looks like you are hitting a G bass, other times it looks like you are hitting the F#. (I'm just learning the song and know there is something going on beyond the straight chords).
