Nice TV... about Philips, I live in Italy but here (and in all Europe) in 1972 Philips produced K8 Hybrid chassis. I don't know KL1 brazil chassis, but if it use a inline tube it can't be made before 1974-75.
One time in our repair shop we had 2 Zenith Tv's for repair....we put them next to each other...one was a much older model but the picture was far better than the newer Zenith set. My tv tech who is much younger than me was amazed at how much better the color was on the old Zenith.
I want a TV like, or anything similar, so bad! Any color TV 19in & up, made between 70 & 81. I want to play my classic video game (Atari, etc) consoles on, so as to add a nostalgic feeling. I can not belive I can't find anything! I've searched all over the internet. How rare can they be? There must have been at least 100,000,000+ assorted TV sets made between 1970-80.
Thanks for taking the time to upload videos of your troubleshooting and your nice collection. Its nice to see someone who has appriciation for keeping some of the best stuff made going. I hope you can continue to post more projects you are working on as you have time.
Very nice TV :) I enjoy repairing older equipment too. I used to have a tv repair shop. In 94 someone donated a chromacolor(25EC58) and I took it home. After replacing a few electrolytic caps (esp the one that makes the low frequency in the video fall off and the pic streaky). Also replaced the tripler. I am still using this set now. The color and contrast are excellent. The pic depth and quality exceeds many newer CRT TVs.
I have a related video on YouTube you might be interested in about how television sets were sold from the 1950s-1970s entitled, "TV MAN: THE SEARCH FOR THE LAST INDEPENDENT DEALER."
i was a nut for convergance alighnments, i learned from the bottom up, first carryed the tube caddys, then i was running calls. it was THE BEST JOB I EVER HAD. only 10 years till it went down the tubes (sota speak) about 85 tv's went cheap. I joined the navy at 28 yr old. now im a a/c repair guy, 51 and still doing calls, thanks for all your vids. i still remember doing them service calls.....i fixed most of them in the home. had a honest boss too. VERY RARE FOR TV REPAIR...
Zenith. The quality goes in before the name goes on. Made in U.S.A. Although I think by 1972, many of their TV sets were assembled in Mexico. Owned by LG Electronics of South Korea now.
This one was made in USA. B+W portables started to be made at Zenith's Taiwan plant around 1972, color sets were all USA until around 1976 when certain models started to be made in Mexico.
My first color TV, sans the remote. I recall the switch/buttons and the tuner, that I'd turn so hard it would strip. Can't believe a guy used to come to our house to replace the tubes. Despite my screwing with it constantly we had it over ten years.
Very nice TV. Zenith really did used to make some great TV's. My grandparents had exactly TWO zenith TV's over about 30 years. Thats all. LOL They were that good and reliable to last a long time. They always had a good picture.
hey man in 1972 a hybrid color tv? in Brazil in 1971 the philips introduces the KL1 chassis its was a 26 inch color tv with digital memory tuning uses a 26 in line picture tube and infra red digital remote control the philips KL1 was hybrid, uses only 2 tubes in horizontal output a PL509 and PY500.and the rest was transistors and ICs, in 1972 come the KL2 full solid state chassis, in the remote control you can control the color volume bright contrast sharpness and channels
What kind of wood was used to make the console of the floor model TV and Stereo. I remember the TV and Stereo was just like funiture. When you polished them with funiture polish they looked great.
@Jacklistener Wow... you Americans have it pretty bad down there... We still have analog in Canada! Thank goodness. I only get 4 channels over the air, though.
@Jacklistener That's assuming you care about what's on broadcast TV. I was without broadcasts for several months before I got a new TV and it was quite liberating. I want to hook a VCR up to one of these TVs and watch tapes from the 70s.
Nice set! I love those Chromacolor portables, especially the Space Command sets! Awesome picture! It's funny to see the Civic "hybrid" commercial on the tube "hybrid" tv.
Yes they did (and still do). The 4 tube hybrid Zeniths are my favorite sets. Its these sets that really got me into the old TV's as they were plentiful in my area back in the early 90's when I was a kid.
The 4-tube hybrid was also one of the first tube type sets I got, this was probably in 1990. It had a problem of having no color and I tried so many things to try and fix it and never did. Got so frustrated with it I threw it out (wouldn't do that now), Luckily I found another one just recently to replace it, has some bad electroltyics though.

that's quite the hum bar going through the pix, filter time. CRT emission is excellent after all these years. thanks for taking me back.
frankenzie 2 years ago
Filters are good, picture is excellent. The "hum bar" is caused by the difference in my camera frame rate and the TV scan rate.

My grandmother had a TV very similar to this one. She tossed it out almost 20 years ago. I wish I still had that Chromacolor.

Do you have a picture of this TV? Quite advanced for 1972. Was this TV made in holland, since philips is a dutch company?

I had one of those with a conventional tuner.
I used to fix them all the time.
I got rid of mine because the picture was grainy compared to a Sony.

This is fantastic. What an amazing set. That control panel is a beautiful sight to behold. I'd like to see a video on that alone.
How does the Space Command remote work?

most sets come on then zoom in. this one looks like the horizontal output tube is worming up so you see the pic stretching out
