@balls2yourface I used the full scale plans and reduced everything to 1/4 scale. Plans are available from the Affordaplane website and are very inexpensive...
I fabricated the mount from 2"X3" rectangular aluminum tubing. Cut away excess material and drilled it for the engine bolts and used four bolts to mount it to the front plate on the fuselage...
Interesting. However, seems most builders have a hard time getting the full size aircraft to come in under 254 lbs. And, I'm a little skeptical of the design and it gets it's lateral strength from a couple of guy wires but has a huge truss providing vertical strength.
For those reasons I've pretty much written it off as a legitimate ultralight design.
Clearly a legitimate aircraft design, but not sure it's quite on the level as a class legal UL.
I agree. I've read many things about it never making the 254 pound limit as well as questions about it's airworthiness. I was still enamored by the design and wanted to build an RC version just the same. I'm quite confident that if built properly with enough power a full scale version would fly but how well I can only speculate. All I know for sure is it's a real hoot to see my model soaring overhead and I do a little vicarious living through it every time it flies... :-)
Agreed, it has a sort of classic attractiveness to it. A bit like a primary glider with an engine. Your model is wild. :-) I especially like the idea of commandering the weed eater engine (been wondering if I could power a bicycle with one, LOL!)
Been following the Affordaplane from the beginning. Seems simple enough to actually finish. But that lateral bracing with just a wire + the overweight issue were the decision points to not build this particular design.
do you still have the plans?
