The record is on the 1959 Decca album Strictly Instrumental and the 1968 Decca album Bill Haley's Greatest Hits! Another instrumental was released in 1959 called "Shaky"..
Thanks for the info. kingoma61 .This was a huge hit here in Australia in 1959 ,loved this tune as a kid. It surprised me this wasn't a smash hit everywhere? I wonder if Joey was a member of the band? There was also Rudi's Rock.
@kingoma61 Thx4 the info. I don't remember Bill Haley for an inst. cause it wasn't played here & if it was it wasn't played often enough. Songs at the bottom of the Funtastic Fifty got little exposure unless the teens who made up the charts for the most part had requested it as in their 3 favorites. Listening as an older mature male I can see why a teenager wouldn't buy this inst. It's baffles me how this could be #1 for wks with all that good r&r around.....SO WHAT GIVES?tell me!
@Ezdduf4kuZ In late 1959 when "Joey's Song" came out there was no "good r&r around". Rock and roll was dead by 1960. Elvis Presley was still in the army. Buddy Holly was dead. Little Richard had retired. You had these horrid, phony pop stars like we have Justin Bieber today. And then Bill Haley and the Comets release "Joey's Song" with saxophone and lead guitar solos. The record was #1 for 8 weeks down under. Believe me, there was nothing else around in 1960. The rest was crap.

Don't hear this one too often. As a rather lighthearted tune it number tends to be overshadowed by Goofin' Around, Rudy's Rock, and the other big powerhouse instrumentals which the Comets cut. It's great to see it posted here. Many thanks.
