Used to listen to them in Detoit w/feed from Chicago after Steve left. W4 or something. Moved out and lost the show. 1980s something. Still have cassette tapes. Didn't know they split... Steve has White hair? What the heck!
I wonder what my cassette tape set, "Steve and Gary, A Decade of Service" is worth? I'm way behind the times, but it is great to see them back together. As I recall, it all started when Steve got bombed at Gary's wedding.
Just to post another update, Garry Meier today was named the new afternoon host at WGN Radio 720, his first regular radio show on WGN is tommrrow, and he will be hosting 1:00-4:00 P.M. and after that, he will be heard when the Chicago Cubs don't play, or maybe even when he has to fill in for somebody, like John Williams.
From what I heard on his show and the Huge Show, and the Roe Conn Show is that Kevin is sometimes in Grand Rapids and sometimes in Chicago. I wonder how that arrangment works.
i know he fills in for Roe from time to time, and when you say Huge Show, do you me Bill Simonsens program on WLAV? thats funny because they both used to be on the air here in chicago, Bill Left shortly after he got the shit beat out of him while walking to a bar from a White Sox game
Bill Simonson is on WBBL in Grand Rapids. Bill "The HUGE one" when he started was always talking about how Jerry Reinsdorf was controlling what was said about his teams on ESPN 1000 WMVP. Bill said he left Chicago because he could not take being silenced about the Bulls and the White Sox.
I used to listen to those two when they were in Detroit. I also made some tapes. I have a recording of him making crank calls to Iran during the hostage situation. He called Iran playing "my country tis of thee" yellingf "you stupid stinkin clayhead piuece of meat...let my people go!!!
steve is totally still on the air. he is partnered with buzz kilman nowadays. it's good, but it's not as great as it was back in the steve and garry days.
I agree! Over the years since their split especialy when Garry had his own show i used to hear people call in on Steve's show saying how Garry was "dead weight". Steve without Garry whatn't the same.
I remember Steve & Gary from the early 80's, have some of their stuff on tape. I wish they'd put out a cd of their stuff. I wish I would have ran tape the day they had Ozzy Osbourne in studio for "Celebrity Jeopardy", holy crap was that hillarious.
Chicago radio was the best. Not only Steve and Garry, but Tom Joyner, Jonathan Brandmier, and others. I'm amazed I didn't get into accidents from switching stations.
I didn't hear about this rare on the air reunion between these 2 until it made the papers. And here is an update, Garry Meier is back on the air. And in fact he will be on the same station as Steve Dahl, but now not at the same time. Garry will be on starting tommrrow morning from 8:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. So that will be WCKG-FM 105.9.
I don't mean to brag, but I was a teenager working nights back in '79 and would listen to Meier's show on The Loop. I remember when Dahl started his morning show and I remember Dahl keeping Meier around after his timeslot was over and they would just shoot the breeze. It was great to be a witness and I'm glad they've mended those fences.
Steve & Garry were by far the funniest guys I ever heard on the radio. All of their stuff was hysterical and radio management at the Loop & WLS hated them. But of course, that same management kept raking in the profits. They should do a syndicated show on satellite & make major dough like Howard Stern is.
I was able to hear all 5 hours thanks to a friend alerting me to the podcasts on Dahl.com. My favorite S&G era was early 80's and the reunion reminded me of that time. Yes, it is good to hear Garry again. Especially; Steve & Garry. I think I felt the vigorous hug of Neptune again!
I actually heard this and thought it was cool, I'm too young to remember when they were a team But I liked listening to Roe and Garry on WLS, To hear Garry again on the radio was great, He's far more talented than Steve Dahl or Roe Conn
Best radio guys EVER! The WLUP days were amazing.

Remember when Garry would do a lisping voice character named "Cliff Palate"?
"Send your boy to Cliff's Boys Ranch, in beautiful rural grundy county, where we say: A boy is like a canoe. Best directed when paddled from behind."

Loved them! Damn shame they broke up, it was never the same....

They were great when they first started. They made fun of the lame shit in town that needed a good poke like Wally Phillips and Ed Schwartz.
Lots of laughs sitting in my bedroom with a bong and a radio back then.

Dear Steve and Garry,
Glad to see U go! I hated U in the 70's, and I hate U today. Now, could U both please just go away and DIE, or something? Thanks!!
