  • cool vid, i tried that on my bike but couldnt find foam. so i just cut my seat, sanded the foam and recovered the seat. came out great

  • nice video, gonna try it

  • what kind of foam do you use over the fiberglass seat pan? And how do you attach the upholstry to the seat pan? Thanks for the video!

  • hey awesome video . I have a ninja 500r and i was wondering if this technique would work for making a solo cowl to go over the back eliminating the handle grip????

  • good video ok so they say makeing a custom seat is made easy so why do custom seats cost so much ..

  • @horespower Well, if you pay anyone for 30-40 hours of their time plus materials, it's going to cost you something - no one works for free - and neither should they

  • Man I made a seat just like you showed, . Other people that has made em said it would be to hard but you made it easy for me with the exact directions i did show them up with a bad ass seat. A fabricator said it looked just like what he done after 20 yrs so hell yea.

  • thanks for your video it was really helpfull,i don't have to use expensive materials with your way.i think that with a bit patience the seat will fit perfect to my honda steed!!

  • Very informative vid. Thanks.

  • You dont have to have UV lights....its just the way its done in shops that mass produce fiber glassed products.....if all the doors all closed up while your glassing when you are done all you have to do is open doors to let light in....or for a faster kick you need to wheel it outside the garage.....sunny day or not the UV rays from the sun will make it harden really fast.... 5-10 min and its completly sandabel....really awsome stuff.

  • Not sure if you have heard of U.V resin.......Its used in fabricating surf boards with which iam very familiar with. It saves the hassel of havein to wait for it to cure. You did work our of a garage. The way to do it is to close all the doors etc and when you are done glassing you kick on some UV lights and its sandable fiberglass and resin in a matter of minutes.

Thanks for the vid it was very helpful

  • @rhlpresswash Thanks, I'm going to try that - I think the place I get the glass from has UV resin.

  • Awesome video! Thanks for the info. Did you just place the pan and seat on the bike or do you mount the pan some way?

  • @Dfull86

There's a few ways you could mount it. You can make a tab which will slide into the loop already on the frame. Then, use a tab of industrial velcro on the back. I've also just used the velcro along the edges. In this case, you'd sew the velcro to the lining glued to the back (even though it is self adhesive). The adhesive sticks well to the frame, but less so to the lining (either heavy felt, or car trunk carpet). Only use industrial velcro - (available at Home Depot)

  • @Automedon2

I forgot to mention, the front tab gets rivetted to the pan

  • thanks for the information,thanks a lot

  • Thanks for the video, Yamaha V stars have the worst seat from the factory. I did this last night and it worked perfect. The liberal coat of wax is crucial for a good release, and I pulled it before the fiber got totally cured. Starting the foam this weekend.

  • when i did this for a project dirtbike i didn't use very good mould relese and it was almost impossible to take off :|

  • what type of mat do you use? Fiberglass matting?

  • Yes, that's fiberglass mat

  • Love your tool bag lesson, hope there will be more... may be u should consider to sell it online too... so cool
