  • epic soundtrack yippiekayee motherfucker!

  • this game was a classic, regardless of the console

  • whats funny is that i actually had the saturn verison back in the day.

  • Right one has much better framerate. Possibly PSX because it has hard to find good programmers for the saturn.

  • saturn is on right

  • wonderful then :D

  • Could you please stop spreading misinformation, gregory06?

These comparison vids were made by goodcow back in 2004 when he found out the saturn port was terrible.

The saturn version is on the left and the psx version is on the right. You can even see the usual rainbow effect saturn games used instead of actual transparencies in the vids.

Just google "goodcow die hard trilogy" for a higher resolution version of this vids and screenshots for further proof (it's the first result).

  • Only a handful of ineptly programmed Saturn games utilized Stippling to simulate transparency.

Games like Burning Rangers and Sonic R proved the Saturn is wholly capable of supporting transparency while holding a steady frame rate.

  • It was more than a handful.

Yes, the saturn can do transparencies (not using them in this case), but the performance penalty is pretty big. Most games that featured transparencies used them sparingly at best.

While running 3D, any non perfect rectangle drawn by VDP1 will cause some pixels to overlap (which in result will do both, burn fillrate and create wrong colored pixels).

And using software transparencies is a big no no.

  • I am geussing PSX on the Right and Saturn on Left.

  • nope

  • I thought PSX had a better 3D ability and Saturn had dual Processors. If Saturn is on Right, it is definately better at Graphics than PSX.

  • Saturn had the better framerate. More sony games, however, reached the psx's graphic potential. Most saturn games did not.

  • Yeah, but PSX didn't have the kind of exclusives I like: Panzer Dragoon, Guardian Heroes, Astal, etc. I am an Arcade Action game-player

  • Yeah. I was too. Not too many games as fun to play as those anymore :( I often find myself playing time crisis at my local pizza shop rather than playing any new ps3 game.

  • Games like the upcoming Sin and Punishment 2 for Wii ought to get more attention. I have a feeling it will, seeing as a lot of Nintendo Core fans are in a dry season. Personally it serves Nintendo Fans right for ignoring Arcade Action games, after-all not every game can be a Zelda or Mario or Metroid. They ought to broaden their horizons with companies like TREASURE, who know how to make fast-paced quality gaming best served in short bursts.

  • What do you mean most Saturn games didn't reach the graphical apex of the system?

What about Panzar Dragoon Saga, Fighting Vipers, Dead or Alive, Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Cop 2, Burning Rangers, Need for Speed, Lost World: Jurassic Park, NiGHTS, Resident Evil, Sonic Jam, Tunnel B-1, Wipeout XL etc. to name a few.
