  • Never have I watched a video that was able to rob me off my breath, in a positive note that is. To say that this video was phenomenal itself would be an understatement. Truly mind-blowing. This video has been on replay for the past few hours, and every single time, I still get the same experience. Brilliant! Good job! The society needs more people who are creative like the person behind this video. The quiet intimate voice of the narrator made it even better. Two thumbs up for this one! =)

  • @MunirahBIbi High praise indeed! Thanks a lot Munirah, comments like yours definitely inspire me to keep on keeping on! x

  • awesome.. really awesome *.*

  • @myawesomecure Awesome :)

  • FANTASTIC. I loved the shot with the guy running along side the mouse. well done, check out some of my videos

  • @sammydavis42 Haha it's not a mouse, it's Daniel Day Lewis in a mouse costume!! It's all about the 'Method' acting.. Ta.

  • Excellent - great pace, light. Very sensual. Great actors.

  • Thank you so much

  • Wow, fucking awesome. Make some more!

  • awsome! the lighting and angels u used are brilliant!

  • VERY DEEP. I love it.

  • excellent interpretation and visuals, i enjoyed it very much, and a poet you certainly are.

  • Sticking up for me eh, angie4josh? cheers for the comment ;-)

  • I agree with viverridae that poetry and film don't always mix well. However, I really liked the way this was shot and edited, and I thought you put the poem and the visuals together well, without one dominating the other. I enjoyed the slightly ponderous nature of it as part of the experience. 5* from me!

  • Very nicely done, editing, directing and general visual side. Unfortunately I think the story itself is told simply by adding a lot of unnecessary pathos to a story that's basically very simple, which is also true for the poem, in my opinion. The result is a story all too slowed down by its own pathos, and even though I am a big supporter of mixing poetry and movie, each medium just slows the other down and takes away strength and honesty in this case. Still, nicely done on the technical side!

  • This is spectacular. The poem itself is magnificent...

    I am inspired!

  • Great Devilepyonarmy. Glad you like..

  • I really like this, thank you!

  • awesome moody work u've got here.

  • perfect gradation! it left a strange, strong feeling in myself and thats great!

  • Great 1Vercingetorix1, thanks alot..

  • bello

  • Hey dil1010!

I apreciate this movie, but I do not really get it? Could you please tell me, what is the meaning, what did you wanted to tell.

  • seee what kissing dose? its trouble ya miss shit and all that goes with it!

  • I liked this film so much I posted it on one of my blogs. Thank you for your vision...

  • Cheers prime :-)

  • wonderfully done

  • so tell me, how much money did your parents give you so you could buy the 35MM film(or expensive Hi-Def) to shoot your movie?

Hey, don't mind me: I'm jealous.

  • LOL! Work, Conewells, ever heard of it? If you want something enough you'll WORK for it, look it up. It's an often nasty but necessary part of life. FYI we shot on 16mm film. You can phone Kodak and Fuji where they have departments to help new film makers and you can get up to 50% off the retail price of stock. Dan Clarke @ Kodak gets a credit at the end of this film for doing just that.

  • I don't need you to tell me about work. But thanks for the advice. I like your film.

  • awsome movie man yeh i bet you worked bloody hard to pay for your 16mm 16mm is me fave where do u learn to film ?

  • Cheers Jackiohead. I never went to film school and didn't touch the camera on this one. I did however take my stills camera and made the story board of what shots I wanted. It was rally a question of being able to visualise what I wanted and communicating that to the DOP. As a collaborative medium film's a bit like sailing a ship, the captain decides where to go and works closely with the with the crew to get there. With any luck the ship wont sink on the way.. :-)

  • did you guys see the mouse at 2:11 ..? :D

  • As mentioned before here it's not a mouse it's Daniel Day Lewis in a mouse costume.. He does a good job doesn't he? It's all in the "Method" apparently. :-)

  • wow i love the part when the girl appears.

  • Cool, what other films have you done?? Great camera angles and ideas, love the shot with the mouse running along.

  • Oh my!

    I am a filmmaker/writer/actor and musician myself.

I have seen a hell of alot of short films but i have NEVER been so inspired in my life.

    This is absolutely incredible.

    YOU are absolutely incredible.

    CONGRATULATIONS.

it is people like you who inspire to work hard every day.

Where can I see more of your work

    Your no.1 fan

    Miles&miles Szanto

  • High praise indeed Milesandmiles.. Thankyou very much.. I'm just glad that our hard work means something to some people and if it has inspired you in some small way then it was all worthwhile.. Thanks again for your great comment, which has in turn inspired me to carry on.. Best wishes on your endeavors.

    Dylan

  • how brilliant, how beautiful

  • i like it..i like the mood and feeling it evokes...the voiceover adds to it's lyrical effect...brillant poetry btw...really inspiring.....keep up the good work...

  • Great Artyflap thankyou.. :-)

  • Like a breath of fresh air

  • Interesting. I liked it very much.

  • amazing.

  • i love it! you're a brilliant poet!!!

  • Hey thanks alot 3116969... :-) i wouldnt call it brilliant because, well.. im me.. and theres a lot of really brilliant stuff out there but glad you liked it.. cheers

  • whats with the gay shit at the start man? that turn me off

  • Hmmmm, gay shit.. Lemme look.. NO, no, im fairly sure thats all hetrosexual shit you're seeing.. lol.. might still be shit to u tho.. cant win em all eh? Ty 4 comment anyhow saynotodrug999

  • im all for art and stuff but im looking for artistic short movies not gay porn specially when im stoned im pretty sure it was a good movie but uh making dudes make out isn't the greatest idea i know its kinda bias but the turn off rate for 2 dudes is way higher then 2 girls or hetrosexual

  • LOL! saynototdrug999 its a guy and a girl...just keep watching past the intro.. maybe you should pass that joint ;-).. cheers

  • crap ur right it is a guy and a girl haha

  • WHAT WAS THAT????

    NO SENSE AT ALL!!!!

  • your a good poet and movie maker you should make a movie with this as the end scene like they have in movies like in pulse if you have seen that movie where at the end the girl talks and stuff

  • i dont get it? for laaame

  • odd...

  • love it, i went to london for holiday, loved the tubes and the tunnels to stations, it's like, walk, walk, walk, missed 5 trains, walk. And finally you're there!

  • Really nice...This is the first short film I watched and I liked it...good job and wish you all the best...

  • Hey thanks for your kind comment sarbunisha.. bestest to u 2

  • It's a bit too pretentious to my taste, but you sure have artistic talent. The poem is really good, almost too good for the movie you want to fit it in. But as a whole it;s a captivating piece of art with a certain unheimlisch beauty to it. Success with your further projects! :)

  • Point taken RyuDarkwood cheers for taking the time to give feedback.. success to u too.cheers

  • WTF

i don´t know why this short film is good

    but it is.. xD

    good ob

  • Hello from Puerto Rico... Great short film, I love the story. The director its just a genius

  • Hi Dylan,

Brilliant film, excellent visuals , really captivating and innovative. I dont have a sound card so I cannot comment on the peom. Worked very well for me with just the sound of a hard disk whirring. I do agree that the bloke is far too good-looking and I do know fact that he has 4 fat mates that would have suited the part very well. If you are interested in location I may have access to a london footbal stadium for you. John.walthamstow

  • Hey john! cheers for the comment, really happy you liked the film...you should try it with sound sometime as we did some work on trying to get it right.. Took me ages to find the right girl to do the voice over and i think she conveys the poem very well.. Just so happens i writing a story about 4 guys and a football stadium. how incredibly convienient... Cheers

    dyl

  • hello boyz and girlz just wanted to say thank you for all your comments..... if you want to see all the comments in order press the view all option at the bottom of this page coz otherwise they are a bit jumbled up and perhaps dont make sense... good luck.. x

  • Good film. My first film was shown at Saatchi and Saatchi and is not on here as it's 10mins. But you can see another short poetry film of mine 4mins.

  • Wonderfull awsome, superb,

  • Great Film.

  • Very Nice. I think it was put together very well. I loved the simplicity of the film. Well done.

  • I'm no expert or anything but I really liked the poem and the film, in particular the way it was cut together - it seemed to keep what is a fairly bland backdrop (an empty underground) interesting. For me, the poem seemed a little darker or sadder than the film content portrayed, but I still enjoyed it.

  • could you possibly post the poem somewhere reachable?it's truly beautiful.beautiful concept, beautiful shots.excruciatingly beautiful actors.

  • cheers Pixxxie, poem now added in more info box :-)

  • well Mr dreamer if you bothered to read the info on this film you would have discovered that the poem is an original one i wrote my self. Whether or not you like it is up yo you, but get your facts right b4 u go slagging people off.. Also i don't notice any original content on your profile so, A. Learn to read. B. Take your own advice and make a film yourself. C. Eat your words... Oh, and cheer up!

  • When creativity comes back into this industry I will be more cheerful. I don't have anything on YouTube because I don't need to put my work on a free site for billions of people to see, I can sell them for money, and earn a living. And as far as the poem is concerned, keep writing . . .

  • Well i guess you're at an advantage there Mr dreamer, as i haven't seen any of your work to pass judgment on. Perhaps you'd be so kind as to direct me as to where i can see it if theres so much out there? Also, if you are lucky enough to get paid, why do you have to bitch at people who do it for love? Does it make you feel big? Clever? IMPORTANT? Or is it just a way of hiding your own inadequacies? Just a thought..

  • I do it for love genius. It's a benefit to have it bring in money, it's what everyone wants, to do what they love and to get revenue from it. Tell you what, I'll post my next short which is at the end of pre-pro rightnow on Youtube, just for you. I bytch because I want to see ppl become creative again. That was your poem great, but I'm saying make a short about "something" shorts are some of the hardest things to make, tell a good story in under 15 min. and your on your way. .

  • Well great, Dreamer, i look forward to it.

  • This film like it.Your brilliant film

I do not speak English very well, but I try =)

what poem is that?plese, you can send the letter to me?thanks

  • Great, loved the mouse! Ok, maybe I'm missing a major point here, but where did the couple go? How comes she was on the platform in the first place?

  • ...

This, to me, is THE definitive poetry film.

The imagery and the timing are symbolic and poetic as the words.

It deserves every single award and nomination for an award that it has achieved.

    ...

  • Thank you very very much :-)

  • that was really good i like when poetic language is used over a simple thing like catching a train. Did you write the poem with this film in mind or was it more of a conversion to film afterwards?

  • A little bit of both, Octopus. I had the bones of the poem already and added some lines here and there as necessary..

    cheers!

  • This was really your first film ever done? That's amazing. Well done, I say!

With what little resources you probably had, it's definitely a jewel set in the bedrock of youtube. I appreciate your posting this, and I enjoyed my viewing it. Thanks very much, and congratulations on entering into all those film festivals. I'm sure they loved it, just as much as I.

  • omg that is the best poem i have ever herd in my life

  • you are too kind.. no really you are. thankyou..

  • the poetry was amazing.

great job adapting it to film!!

    :)

  • Nearly flawless... I'd spend a day or two touching up the time counter so it looks a little more authentic, then you've got a flawless piece.

Recommendation: freeze frame a few sets of the security camera shots, cut and paste the numbers, then export all the frames of the security camera parts, and set up a grid to do the alignment. Its a fairly arduous task, but afterwards, you'll know it was worth the effort.

  • Arrg! You spotted it... :-)I had to pressurise a, vey busy, friend in to doing it, who also did the title sequence! I figured I couldn't take the piss by being too pedantic.. As a indie director you don't wanna piss off peeps that are helping you for free.. I figured i'd get nit pickey when I was waving cash at them. They did however point it out at the time and weren't exactly happy about letting it out as is, but time pressures an all that eh?.. Thanks taking the time to comment, cheers

  • actually would like to thank you all for leaving comments its always good to get feedback, good, bad indifferent.. Keep em coming.. Cheers!

  • excellent!

  • great job..by the way was it mouse at 2.11 ?

  • hey thanks for your comment.. and yes that is our secret hollywood mouse star, actually Daniel Day Lewis in a costume cameoing as the mouse.. He does a good job doesn't he.. it's all about "The Method" man.... ;p

  • Poetry was superb great job!

  • seriously pretentious very irritating but quite well shot

  • Very well done. Thank you for sharing.

  • simple idea. beautiful poetry. wonderful concept. entertaining.

  • love this film.

  • Well done! Very inspiring work.

  • Well done, combination of filming, editing & text!

  • yeah she is :)

  • that girl is stunning!

  • great cinematography & sharp editing. overall well directed film. very engaging, worth watching!

  • really good.

  • Shot well, well written and well read! Brill....has to be if anything can make you feel nostalgic for the Tube!

  • THIS IS COMPLETELY AMAZING! IT MADE MY DAY! partly because the guy that sent me the URL told me it reminded him of me =]

  • brillian cinematography. i love it so much. check out my film if you have time!

  • very impressive and moving. as a poet myself i was transfixed with not just the metaphoric imagery but the words themselves.. good job...

  • This was good. I usually only watch the first minute or so of the shorts on youtube, but this one hooked me about 8 sec into the movie and i watched the whole part. gooood work!

  • Oh and thankyou btw. :-)

  • what's the name of the Orphic poem? it is very beauiful.

  • Havent given the poem a name yet. You can find the words here

my space(dot)com(forward slash)66016650.. look at the blog section for 10 Doors Closing poem..

  • nice short and lovely poem, keep up the good work

  • Wow. Excellent, well done. Wow

  • hi there, thought the film was really good!

i read about it in digital video mag.

i read that you filmed in super 16mm with prime lenses, and i guess thats what gave you the

'film look' which i really wanna capture myself, i have a HDR FX1 if that means anything to you? and just wondered if you had any idea of how i'd capture the same look with my camera. would it mean using a complete different camera or just changing the lens? any help would be great. cheers.

  • Hi crize69thanks for the comment. I dont know the camera you have but but we filmed on film so im surprised about being in digi vid mag.. Apparently if you very silghtly under expose in digi that will give you a slightly grainy effect. I put the film through telecine with a colourist which helped give the look. but you can tweek the colours in final cut pro on your comp, if mac or avid on pc.

  • hello...loved the film...just wondering what camera did you film it with???

I am interested in making a short film also you see and I am just wondering how did you end up getting yours funded etc???

    Thanx for any help

  • Hi Cantona. Thx for the comment. We filmed on a Super 16mm Film camera using Prime Lenses. There was no funding for the film, I paid for the film stock £250 and blagged a 40% discount from Kodak. Every one worked for free/ credits and the location was free too, after letters and many calls. Cheaper option to use good digital cam, rent one with variety of lenses.

  • Try to get a few people on side who know what they doing and believe in your story. Production, production, production. Good luck with yours.

  • so you're saying she magiced herself there if she can do that why bother with trains good film tho i enjoyed it

  • So how did she get there so fast? Holo deck, warp core breach, or perhaps a wormhole to use some startreckisms. I dunno, all i can try to do with a film is illicit a feeling from the viewer, not everyone will get what i'm on about and I guess for you, viewmagoo, I failed. cheers for the comment anyhow.

  • i have to ask this...

if it took him 1 minute to run the labyrinth to just miss the train, how did she get to the platoform so fast?

why did you not show him leave the station dejectedly and then see her waiting?

    or am i missing something?

  • Suspension of disbelief my friend.Do you ask how Superman files, how the invisible man becomes invisible or indeed how does Darth Vader do that finger thingy? In the film I was drawing comparisons between the subway and the underworld, a place where wierd things can happen and the power of love can conquer all.

  • I'm not really sure what i thought about =that short film. Obviously it is regarded as very well made with all of the acceptances and awards you have etc. I felt as if the narration was trying to push more emotion than there was in the narrative. Nice film tho

  • great short. excellent. thanks for the post

  • just curious,in the intro u repeated a clip. the hands on her back. is repeated a few seconds later.was this on purpose?

  • Cool. The narrator's voice very much matched the poem's tone and sounds like it could be the voice of Her. If ya don't mind, tho, what poem is that?

  • Hello zimfier thanks for the coment... Ahh the magic of film making, its actually a different girl that does the voiceover, took me ages to find the right person tho...The poem is one I wrote a couple of years ago.. I havent given it a name .....maybe i should...

  • very good. congratulations. that's narration done teh right way. complementing. though i'm kinda put off by hwo beautiful the two actors/models were. At one point I thought I was watching a fashion/perfume commercial. though that's just a very small bone to pick with what is surelya very well written and executed short film.

  • Thanks for your kind words and constructive crit. I think in hindisght I agree with your point.andI would probably cast diffferently now.

  • Well, I'm flattered (y'know, that my criticisms weren't brushed aside). I'm quite in awe, also, of the narrator's voice. I failed to mention it specifically, previously, but it was right about the perfect tone (and diction). I see something like this and it just makes me want to pursue filmmaking, though. I've done but o' so poorly with my crappy handheld.

  • This is the first film I made, it was shown at Raindance East and some other festivals, as well as on Sky Tv. It's been accepted to this years IFTC too. Please feel free to leave a comment... Thanks
