Could some chaplin fan out there help me? I remember seeing a chaplin movie (silent) when i was little where the girl he loves is boarding a train with another man and she invites him to come along and he says no, two's company, three's a crowd..(making the motions with his hands.)
It's the end of it you describe where the girl and her husband invites Chaplin inside their waggon just after they have been married (thanks to Charlie) But i can only advice you to see it.
Thanks a lot! I'll look for it. I can still see the scene clearly, the simple poignancy of Chaplin must have been impressed on my mind even as a little kid =)
There's a ballet-scene in the movie where Chaplin is amazing. Really! "Limelight" is an amazing film. Sir Charles Chaplin did all this: Directed, produced, wrote the screenplay, wrote the music, played the main carachter, made the ballet-scenes.
It's simple: Chaplin was the genius who created the movies and made them America's greatest contribution to popular entertainment, and created a new artform.
Chaplin was 63 at the time if I am not mistaken. Limelight came out in 1952 and he was born in 1889. I think three of his children Geraldine, Michael, and Josephine had cameos in the film. Their ages were 8, 6, and 3. His wife Oona stood in for Claire Bloom if she was not available when they had to reshoot scenes. Oona was 26 or 27 at the time. They had four children at the time. Victoria Chaplin was the fourth and just an infant. They went on to have four more in Switzerland
Spring Song Birds are calling. Skunks are crawling. Wagging their tails for love! Spring is here. Whales are churning. Worms are squirming. Wagging their tails for love! What is this thing Of which I sing That makes us all bewitched? What is this thing That comes in Spring That gives us all the itch? Oh, it's love, it's love, It's love! love!
Amen. :) i'm so in love with him. i have just really discovered him now and have been watching nothing but Charlie Chaplin videos for 3 days straight! I mean i knew who he was but..never really watched it all that much.
Maestro, te esperamos en este siglo con tu resurrección.

Vaudevillians had to be capable of all stage skills..... Early Hollywood benefitted from that. Very hard to find such diverse people now.

And even in this we see the slightest tribute to the Little Tramp. :) Notice his bamboo cane, and he is dressed like a bum, eh?
Man, even in his 60's he could act as young as ever. My hat is and always will be off to you, Charlie. :)

That's my favourite scene of the film. Even then Chaplin was handsome enough to make a sexy couple with the beautiful Claire Bloom.
