This has to be one of the most underated songs EVER,absolutely bangin, one of my fav dance tracks EVER.Brilliant vocal from Donna and an astounding beat.
A 60 year old woman recorded this. Married to the same man for almost 30 years. All of us could learn from this woman's declaration of passion for someone of my gender.
And that man who is Mr Summer is lucky lucky lucky beyond words.
I'm liking this original mix. I can hear alot of things I don't hear on the studio album. Miss Donna is just spectacular! I went to see her in concert last July a few months after the release of this album and that particular concert sticks with me to this day. Absolutely wonderful!
Donna will live forever in pop music! She is truly the QUEEN! I am a devout fan of hers. Love to meet her someday. This song (album) contains her class and charisma...traits that Donna delivers on a constant basis. Thanks, Donna. I love you
And actually, discoguy, remember back in 1999 when Donna released "Con Te Partiro" and "Love Is A Healer?" One was produced by Hex Hector and the other by Thunderpuss and they BOTH reached #1.
i rememebr that, but they were very generic in production, "CTP" i actually liked, the other i thought was terrible, most of her singles were tepid attempts at dance music, nothing groundbreaking, nothing that made you want to run out and buy,
lol!!, sfinthehouse, i wasnt referring to you!! i was referring to someone that i know personally, not you!!! sorry you took it the wrong way, i know sometimes words come out one way, and they are interpreted another...
i guess after all this you think i hate donna summer. quite the opposite, i adore her, i just dont like her musical choices sometimes... ive followed her career since day 1, so i do feel qualified to judge, as harsh as it may be at times.
I never thought you hated her. Quite the opposite. I DID think, however, that maybe you were one of those fans who were so stuck on one era of an artist's career and would automatically compare everything else to that era and dismiss it as crap because it wasn't what you were used to (that tends to happen with any artist who has an extensive career). I have to sometimes stop myself from doing that with certain artists who I like who have been around for a long time.
I have been obsessed with DS since the beginning but some of her stuff is really shallow, repetitive and kinky but she sure makes up for it with this song and her picture on the Crayons cover
why is it when ever an artists fails its the labels fault?, thats not always true, the label cannot make a radio station play a song, the song has to be good, which in this case, its not....the label can push the artist out to the media masses, but they cant make the public buy the album if it sucks
When The Carpenters were big their label hardly promoted them at all despite them being the ship the label sailed on...so the the answer to yr Q is not always.
the fact that the carpenters were big, tells me that more than likely they were promoted, donna was promoted, she debuted her single on AI, the most watched show that week, she sang it on david letterman, she was on good morning amrerica, tavis smiley and many other talk shoes, if thats not promotion i dont know waht is then..radio is not interested, its bland pop.
Let's see...a comeback album on an indie label with almost zero promotion...I'm actually surprised that this album is doing as well as it is, all things considered.
zero promomtion? hardly, she debuted "stamp your feet" on AI the most watched tv show that week, shes been on david letterman, good morning america, tavis smiley, and several others, you dont call that promotion? i sure do, the only thing the label hasnt done is make a video, probably because they wanted to see the reaction at radio first, which by the way is...ZERO, not surprising, its a terrible album...
And just what makes the album so terrible? I'm really interested in why you think this album is so bad. Is it because it isn't the style that you are used to hearing from her?
its all over the place, it has no focus, there are too many differnt styles of music, which isnt necessarily a bad thing, but the material is "weak", all the songs sound like filler songs, i dont hear any radio hits, donna needs to do a "dance" album like cher did with "living proof" and madonna did with "confessions" and kylie did with "cant get you out of my head", all 3 were huge platinum sellers. 95% of donnas career is disco/dance based, thats what people want to hear, not this shit
U R intitled 2 yr opinions but I think this album is brill. 17 years is along time without Donna & only a token song now & Then. & even less when u live in the UK ..it aint even released here yet i it ever will b...Long live Donna music & The Carpenters
Donna's sound is dance based yes, but it has also been based upon what style of dance music is popular at the time (hence her working with S/A/W in the late 80s). In keeping with that trend, Donna could either go in the deep house direction (as she did with "I'm A Fire") OR go in a more electro style (think Ultra Nate's "Grime Silk and Thunder"), but that still wouldn't be anything like her old stuff either.
im a fire is not "deep house" at least not the album cut, its sort of an r&b/dance..its bland production wise and melody wise. Im talking about a dance/pop anthem like cher did with "believe" or "strong enough" 2 powerful dance/pop songs with a nice retro feel, they were brilliant comeback songs for cher..those 2 songs would have been a perfect match for donnas strong vocals.. good melodies good retro productions. electro style is not a donna style at all...this album is not her at all
"Believe" and "Strong Enough" were excellent comeback singles for Cher because they were right in line with what was popular in the dance world at the time of their release: euro-dance/nu italo and 70s retro-influenced house. 70s retro was very much "in" in the late 90s like 80s retro is "in" in this decade, which is another reason why Madonna's COADF did so well.
madonnas "confessions" was only 2 years ago. if donna made a record today like cher did a few years ago, i have no doubt radio would embrace it. actually when cher released 'believe' in the late 90s, there were no mainstream artsits doing euro/dance, cher started a trend, to bad donna didnt follow, i did read once a while ago, that donna did cut sone tracks with "METRO", but i dont know what happened to them...
COADF is 80s retro with heavy electro influences. 80s retro is in now just as 70s retro was in back in the late 90s. So if there were a perfect time for Donna to capitalize on her "signature sound" without sounding like she had run out of ideas, that time has long since passed. And actually, Madonna would be the one to start the trend of mainstream artists doing euro-dance/trance since Ray of Light came out before Believe (but is it really a trend if only 2 people are doing it?)
call what ever fancy trendy names you want, "hung up" was straight up retro disco from the 70s with an abba sample, having been a huge part of 70s disco i can assure you its sounds eerily like boris midney, and alec constatinos, but without all the strings...in other words its been all done before....so someone who is not familiar with the undreground disco scene of the mid to late 70s, which is apparently you, you call it 80s retro which was actually 70s retro, how old are u???
as i recall donna did capitalize on what was hot at the time when she released "another place and time"....by the time that was released the SAW sound was played out, sort of passe, SAW never had a pop hit after that, and BTW it was donnas last top 10 pop hit..
I actually DID know that, but "Hung Up" is not the only track on COADF. But how about we actually stick to having a mature discussion, instead of you trying to launch personal attacks against me. That would be rather immature especially if you are as old as you say you are.
To bad you are not a deep person. Otherwise, if you had a soul, it would be the essential nature you would be aware of instead of the superficial physical stuff.
stuart price, madonnas collaborator on "confessions" would have been a brilliant match also...she seems to want to prove that shes not just a disco artist, well hello!!! 95% of her success is, guess what..DISCO!! that would be like madonna doing a straigh up rock/r&b album after most of her careeer is dance based, madonna is smart, shes got noting to prove to anyone. she knows what her fans want....donna is lost musically
Madonna is truly a unique artist in the sense that people EXPECT her to change it up with every album. Her whole career is based on reinvention and no two Madonna albums sound alike.
I maintain that it is only your opinion that Donna is "lost musically." Maybe she's finally doing what she wants to do after years upon years of pretty much being an industry puppet.
madonnas career is based on reinvention of her image not her music, her music is and always will be dance based, the reason no 2 albums sound alike production wise, is becuase she never used the same producer 2wice except for "true blue" and "whos that girl"...its not just my opinion, her album fell off the charts in less than 6 weeks, that says alot right there...
Madonna is such a staple in the dance world because of remixes. Only twice has she actually gone and done a full-on dance/electronica based album: Ray of Light and COADF. Most of her 80s material was new wave-influenced pop, and the early to mid 90s marked a shift over into R&B (especially with Bedtime Stories, and even then, most of her singles were remixed by various house producers, namely Junior Vasquez).
thats partly true, however, her inceptioon into the club/disco/dance world was not through a remix, "everbody" was in its original form as a radio single and a club record, "holiday" "burning up" "physical attraction" all were not remixed for club play, it wasnt untill her 3rd album did the remix era start to kick in...madonna was never new wave, thats innacurate. "lucky star" and "borderline" got some play at r&b radio....
The fact remains that Madonna was allowed to change it up. She didn't go back to dance until "Ray of Light" and even then she didn't stay there. "Music," with the exception of the first 3 tracks, had mostly downtempo/midtempo pop. "American Life" had SOME dance influence (much like "Erotica" but that album is still very much R&B/jazz-pop), but it wasn't until COADF that she made another return to dance and now she's gone to hip-hop with "Hard Candy."
@SFintheHouse that's innacurate, Madonna was dance from the get go "Everybody" is a disco song mixed with punk, the original burning up 12" Version (not the album) was dance not new wave, and so was Holiday her first release was a full dance album. further more, Like A Virgin, Lucky Star, Keep It Together, Who's That Girl, all 80s singles got more significant R&B airplay than the 90s. The remix you talk about changing a song completely from the album version wouldn't start until 1992
Cont.it was from 1992 (except for like a Prayer 89) that her songs would be transformed completely in2 dance Erotica(92),Secret(94), BedtimeStory/HumanNature(95) Don'tCryForMeArgentina (96) & frozen (98) the big Madonna dance hits have been dance on their own: Holiday,Lucky Star, In2 The Groove, Express Yourself, Everybody, Vogue, Deeper And Deeper, Fever, Ray Of Light, Nothing Really Matters Music, Hung Up Giveit2me. Madonna & dance go together she's the one with the most #1s dance hits BY FAR
Its music .. plain and simple. If it pleases people or makes them want to dance then its done its job.
Not all people look for intellectual aspects in the music they listen to.... i enjoy good lyrics .. something that tells a story or makes me feel good about hearing it .. but i can also appreciate dance music that has more then 20 words in it .. at least this has some verses.
missopinion according to your profile your 25, way to young to remember miss summer when she ruled the "pop" charts, so really, your not qualified to judge the musical aspirations of miss summer, this song is garbage plain and simple, generic production, bland lyrics and boring melody, no where near the calibre of such gems as "once upon a time" , "a love trilogy", and "four seasons of love"....but i appreciate your attempt....
Age means nothing when it comes to music .. as long as you enjoy a style you'll know all you need to, to make an observation.
Donna is singing to a different generation now .. people want a beat they can dance to and thats what she has given them ... people dont care about lyrics as much which is sad in many ways... but nevertheless, dont assume anything about someone simply by their age, ESPECIALLY when it comes to music .. i prefer music from before my time, to any of today's offerings.
@pulsatingdisco You Fail,i'm a 52 year old guy, call me an 80,s disco KING i seen all the bands back in the day, i went to Hammersmith Odeon near on every week when those american artists came over to do their tour's,and this song is one of my all time fav's,can't sit still when i play this it's an absolute bangin tune.
yeah well, this time around Donna better watch her mouth when she's talking about the gays who pretty much MADE her career. Its nice to THANK people for their support, NOT chastise them for their life choices and condemn them. Not many gays forgave her (she never apologized!!) and there is still a lot of animosity about what she said about gay people back in the 80's.
i dont remember exactly what she said, but i do remember there was a huge controversy back in 1980, over her alleged remarks, is what she said ever been recorded or quoted anywhere? i also remember her suing the NY times or NY magazine, i believe, and she won a defamaton suite over some comment that was published..does the new generation of gays even rememeber what was allegedly said? i wonder sometimes
she said something to the effect that if she had known that gays were the one's buying and listening to her music she wouldnt have recorded it. She did "kinda" apologize after she stopped with all the religious crap, but you know, what is said is said. It was the gays who MADE her career, bought her records, danced to her music...forgiveness is hard to come by. New generation probably doesnt have a clue.
happyhead64, it is hard to believe that people (such as yourself...) still perpetuate this stupid rumor & are soooooooo ILL-INFORMED after all of this time...Sad...
"There were reports of Summer reminding the crowd, "It was Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve," a line I thought belonged to Anita Bryant. She reportedly told gays in her audience, "I'll pray for you tonight." And when questioned about gay rights, she is reported to have responded, "I've seen the evil homosexuality come out of you people... AIDS is your sin," finally closing, "Now don't get me wrong; God loves you. But not the way you are now."
but happyhead64 you even state it was a rumor, a rumor by definition is a statment without confirmation, i want proof this was said, i do remember back in 1980 there was a ban on her music in gay clubs, but i never remember hearing the actual statement she made, so i to question its authenticity....i remember the rumor she was reportedly a man..we all know that wasnt true, but there were people who actually believed that she was a man..
I just remember the same thing, and I found the article in the advocate of what was reported. I dont know what to believe anymore. I wouldnt be surprised if it WAS a made up story. I apologize DG79 and Flightcrew. Its been a crappy weekend. Didnt mean to take it our on Donna. Happy 4th. :)
no need to appologize to me, i didnt take offence to anything you said, but maybe flightcrew feels different, sorry for your weekend, mine wasnt much better, i had to work on the 4th!!!
happyhead i notice you have a huge selection of music likes on your profile, but no donna summer or disco, do you like donna summer? or disco for that matter?? just curious
Actually, I am a HUGE fan of bands like Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, Blondie, Georgio Moroder and Patrick Cowley, B-52's, Gloria Gaynor, etc etc etc...so yeah, I like a LOT of music that could be considered "disco" or "dance", and I LOVED Donna's 'Breakfast With Gershwin", "MacArthur Park", "On the Radio", "Love is In Control"
Donna Summer never made remarks chastising gay people. Those were fabricated quotes misrepresenting her. She DID make clarification/apology to the public, voicing her support to the gay community.
Please do not speak for all of us. Donna Summer is a victim of hearsay and comments like yours only perpetuate the lie. You'd think with all the bullshit on coming out of the music industry over the last 15 years people would be psyched to here excellent new music from a living legend.
I retract my statement, Like others, I was conned into believing what the media wanted me to believe, and your comment made me research it on the web and I found the article explaining what happened. I am truly sorry for my comments and my "dissing" Donna.
Thanks for that. Many people still swear by that damned rumour! I have met her a few times and she is the dearest lady you could ever meet. Plus, she has the sexiest brown eyes I have ever looked into. I can see why her husband was so attracted and remain to be. She has a sexy vibe about her that is not contrived. It is inate...like her talent!
Ms. Summer addresses this rumor and the libel case she won against the publication "NEW YORK MAGAZINE" in her autobiography "Ordinary Girl". The defendant (The writer) had no proof whatsoever that she had said such things (no audio, no video, no hand written notes, etc) and she "WON"!
so the fact that she won, does that mean she never said what she was accused of? i wish someone can tell me factual words that she allegedly said, not rumors...a recording for example, a direct quote, anything...just not a rumor
I don't think she ever made that statement. I think this rumor was started towards her becoming a born again. If not else this album has erase Mistaken I.D. I sure she'll be doing another cd with next year and a half.
When she says "can you feel it", i get shivers, she sounds so sultry, and i was born in 1979.. and can still enjoy her classics as well as her latest music... it attracts a new audience like myself, and reminds the older audience how music should be fun and exciting..i love it, i feel like i am on fire and on top of the world when i hear this song..Donna Summers is so awesome ^_^
This sounds like it was recorded in the 70s. The music sounds like old, recycled disco beats. It's too old-fashioned. I hope the rest of the CD sounds more contemporary.
Look for Gloria Estafan's "Gloria!" CD; Sheena Easton's "Fabulous!" album, Cher's "Believe" and "Living Proof" CD's if you are looking for some VERY good disco revival sounds! Music based in joy that simply wants you to get up and dance!!
house is a sub-genre of disco as is freestyle, the word "disco" changed to dance in 1982-82....many aritsts today are influenced by disco, madonna being the biggest and most successful...
I'm A Fire was not sent to radio stations based on all that I've read. It was issued out as a club teaser only. Stamp Your Feet should be the official single to be release some time next month (May). That will be the radio issued single.
I love it! She sounds wonderful and I like that this original mix has some bass and it's not all droning synths like the remixes. It's a great summer song.
Well, I guess all of you nay-sayer's are awash in self-pity now. "I'm A Fire" is #14 in 3 weeks on the Billboard Top 50 Dance Club Play Chart. Apparently there is no accounting for TASTE...umm, I beg to differ!~
freakon8yre, that chart position only proves its being played in clubs, nothing else, club play is nice, but radio play and sales are far more important, ive seeen some pretty shitty songs on the club play charts. i doubt this will crossover to radio, but u never know
I LOVE DONNA LIKE YOU ALL GUYS AND I've BEEN WAITING ALL THOSE YEARS TO GET THE CHILLS ALL OVER AGAIN -)))BUT....WHAT IS THIS CRAP SONG???HEY YOU THERE,SO CALLED PRODUCERS,WANNA KILL THE ALBUM OR WHAT???!!!THIS WILL NEVER EVER BE PLAYED ON EUROPEAN RADIOS!!!WAKE THE F..K UP!!!!
its nothing to shout home about i dj and i wouldnt play this...it's not exactly going to get the dancefloor going may be good in a chilledout session...may be get some bigger bass and dirty beats behind it - hopwefully the remixes will be better!!
I'm agree with some of your coments, but put atention in her vocals, when she pronounce some worlds the sexy-feeling that makesdoNNa-suMMer style, she sounds like very sexy young girl, all of us can hear a girl that is showing us that life goes on no matter ageing....don't be a foolish people and yes maybe is not her best but it´s a very fine style!!!!
i think her voice sounds a bit "weak", im not feeling the power anymore, there is something about the way she sounds lately thats not right, coupled with a mediocre tune, i predict a not so hot comeback. i hope the album is way better, why not chers production team? metro. they would have been perfect for her!! imagine donna singing "strong enough"?
What's with all the Donna "hating" here? Okay, so this is the tune that they chose to "seed" clubs for a mass market appeal and boost enthusiasm. I would agree that this song is not REMIXED to its potential, but I absolutely LOVE the vocal prowess of this lady. So, those are my thoughts. Get on the Donna BOAT, or drown!
its not "hating" its opinions from devoted fans who deserve better... a good song shouldnt have to be remixed to death!! a good song stands alone, this isnt one of them. and im a HUGE donna fan
This lady is one of the greatest vocalist of all time. She has a powerful enviable vocal range. This song does not showcase her talents. It is an "okay" song. For some other singer, this could be a "best" song. But not to Donna Summer. Donna Summer is a diva. Her songbook and performance must speak that fact. By the way, I like her Spanish impromptu.
Love Donna - always have and always will, but this song sure is... simple. Let's explore a few more chords than E minor, B minor7 and A minor7 - a decidley forgettable tune with not much melodic range, and no bridge or chorus hook to really pull me in. 1978-80 spoiled me in so many ways... and she does not need the Cher machine to alter her vocals! Looking forward to hearing the rest of the album.

SFintheHouse 3 years ago
madonnas "confessions" was only 2 years ago. if donna made a record today like cher did a few years ago, i have no doubt radio would embrace it. actually when cher released 'believe' in the late 90s, there were no mainstream artsits doing euro/dance, cher started a trend, to bad donna didnt follow, i did read once a while ago, that donna did cut sone tracks with "METRO", but i dont know what happened to them...
discoguy79 3 years ago
COADF is 80s retro with heavy electro influences. 80s retro is in now just as 70s retro was in back in the late 90s. So if there were a perfect time for Donna to capitalize on her "signature sound" without sounding like she had run out of ideas, that time has long since passed. And actually, Madonna would be the one to start the trend of mainstream artists doing euro-dance/trance since Ray of Light came out before Believe (but is it really a trend if only 2 people are doing it?)
SFintheHouse 3 years ago
call what ever fancy trendy names you want, "hung up" was straight up retro disco from the 70s with an abba sample, having been a huge part of 70s disco i can assure you its sounds eerily like boris midney, and alec constatinos, but without all the strings...in other words its been all done before....so someone who is not familiar with the undreground disco scene of the mid to late 70s, which is apparently you, you call it 80s retro which was actually 70s retro, how old are u???
discoguy79 3 years ago
as i recall donna did capitalize on what was hot at the time when she released "another place and time"....by the time that was released the SAW sound was played out, sort of passe, SAW never had a pop hit after that, and BTW it was donnas last top 10 pop hit..
discoguy79 3 years ago
That's what I've been saying. She's ALWAYS capitalized on and followed what was hot at the time, even back in the 70s.
SFintheHouse 3 years ago
i actually know someone who didnt know that "hung up" sampled ABBA. how sad it that?
discoguy79 3 years ago
I actually DID know that, but "Hung Up" is not the only track on COADF. But how about we actually stick to having a mature discussion, instead of you trying to launch personal attacks against me. That would be rather immature especially if you are as old as you say you are.
SFintheHouse 3 years ago
what personal attacks are u referring to?
discoguy79 3 years ago
To bad you are not a deep person. Otherwise, if you had a soul, it would be the essential nature you would be aware of instead of the superficial physical stuff.
2NiNg4K 3 years ago
One To One and all the cuts from that CD were superior to the drek that followed.
lokijordan 1 year ago
stuart price, madonnas collaborator on "confessions" would have been a brilliant match also...she seems to want to prove that shes not just a disco artist, well hello!!! 95% of her success is, guess what..DISCO!! that would be like madonna doing a straigh up rock/r&b album after most of her careeer is dance based, madonna is smart, shes got noting to prove to anyone. she knows what her fans want....donna is lost musically
discoguy79 3 years ago
Madonna is truly a unique artist in the sense that people EXPECT her to change it up with every album. Her whole career is based on reinvention and no two Madonna albums sound alike.
I maintain that it is only your opinion that Donna is "lost musically." Maybe she's finally doing what she wants to do after years upon years of pretty much being an industry puppet.
SFintheHouse 3 years ago
madonnas career is based on reinvention of her image not her music, her music is and always will be dance based, the reason no 2 albums sound alike production wise, is becuase she never used the same producer 2wice except for "true blue" and "whos that girl"...its not just my opinion, her album fell off the charts in less than 6 weeks, that says alot right there...
discoguy79 3 years ago
Madonna is such a staple in the dance world because of remixes. Only twice has she actually gone and done a full-on dance/electronica based album: Ray of Light and COADF. Most of her 80s material was new wave-influenced pop, and the early to mid 90s marked a shift over into R&B (especially with Bedtime Stories, and even then, most of her singles were remixed by various house producers, namely Junior Vasquez).
SFintheHouse 3 years ago
thats partly true, however, her inceptioon into the club/disco/dance world was not through a remix, "everbody" was in its original form as a radio single and a club record, "holiday" "burning up" "physical attraction" all were not remixed for club play, it wasnt untill her 3rd album did the remix era start to kick in...madonna was never new wave, thats innacurate. "lucky star" and "borderline" got some play at r&b radio....
discoguy79 3 years ago
The fact remains that Madonna was allowed to change it up. She didn't go back to dance until "Ray of Light" and even then she didn't stay there. "Music," with the exception of the first 3 tracks, had mostly downtempo/midtempo pop. "American Life" had SOME dance influence (much like "Erotica" but that album is still very much R&B/jazz-pop), but it wasn't until COADF that she made another return to dance and now she's gone to hip-hop with "Hard Candy."
SFintheHouse 3 years ago
go back to dance? her careeer is dance, its dance with other influences...her new album has some solid dance tunes on it, and some hip/hop nuances
discoguy79 3 years ago
@SFintheHouse that's innacurate, Madonna was dance from the get go "Everybody" is a disco song mixed with punk, the original burning up 12" Version (not the album) was dance not new wave, and so was Holiday her first release was a full dance album. further more, Like A Virgin, Lucky Star, Keep It Together, Who's That Girl, all 80s singles got more significant R&B airplay than the 90s. The remix you talk about changing a song completely from the album version wouldn't start until 1992
TarantulaCandy 1 month ago

You have to dwell on the intellectual aspects of music because you do not have a soul.
2NiNg4K 3 years ago
there are no intellecual aspects to this song, or this album
discogal79 3 years ago
Its music .. plain and simple. If it pleases people or makes them want to dance then its done its job.
Not all people look for intellectual aspects in the music they listen to.... i enjoy good lyrics .. something that tells a story or makes me feel good about hearing it .. but i can also appreciate dance music that has more then 20 words in it .. at least this has some verses.
:)
MissOpinionNation 3 years ago
missopinion according to your profile your 25, way to young to remember miss summer when she ruled the "pop" charts, so really, your not qualified to judge the musical aspirations of miss summer, this song is garbage plain and simple, generic production, bland lyrics and boring melody, no where near the calibre of such gems as "once upon a time" , "a love trilogy", and "four seasons of love"....but i appreciate your attempt....
pulsatingdisco 3 years ago 2

Donna, don't let anyone rain on your "PARADE", you are amazing...
flightcrew 3 years ago 2
yeah well, this time around Donna better watch her mouth when she's talking about the gays who pretty much MADE her career. Its nice to THANK people for their support, NOT chastise them for their life choices and condemn them. Not many gays forgave her (she never apologized!!) and there is still a lot of animosity about what she said about gay people back in the 80's.
happyhead64 3 years ago
i dont remember exactly what she said, but i do remember there was a huge controversy back in 1980, over her alleged remarks, is what she said ever been recorded or quoted anywhere? i also remember her suing the NY times or NY magazine, i believe, and she won a defamaton suite over some comment that was published..does the new generation of gays even rememeber what was allegedly said? i wonder sometimes
discoguy79 3 years ago
she said something to the effect that if she had known that gays were the one's buying and listening to her music she wouldnt have recorded it. She did "kinda" apologize after she stopped with all the religious crap, but you know, what is said is said. It was the gays who MADE her career, bought her records, danced to her music...forgiveness is hard to come by. New generation probably doesnt have a clue.
happyhead64 3 years ago
happyhead64, it is hard to believe that people (such as yourself...) still perpetuate this stupid rumor & are soooooooo ILL-INFORMED after all of this time...Sad...
flightcrew 3 years ago
its not a rumor.
From the Advocate:
"There were reports of Summer reminding the crowd, "It was Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve," a line I thought belonged to Anita Bryant. She reportedly told gays in her audience, "I'll pray for you tonight." And when questioned about gay rights, she is reported to have responded, "I've seen the evil homosexuality come out of you people... AIDS is your sin," finally closing, "Now don't get me wrong; God loves you. But not the way you are now."
happyhead64 3 years ago
but happyhead64 you even state it was a rumor, a rumor by definition is a statment without confirmation, i want proof this was said, i do remember back in 1980 there was a ban on her music in gay clubs, but i never remember hearing the actual statement she made, so i to question its authenticity....i remember the rumor she was reportedly a man..we all know that wasnt true, but there were people who actually believed that she was a man..
discoguy79 3 years ago
I just remember the same thing, and I found the article in the advocate of what was reported. I dont know what to believe anymore. I wouldnt be surprised if it WAS a made up story. I apologize DG79 and Flightcrew. Its been a crappy weekend. Didnt mean to take it our on Donna. Happy 4th. :)
happyhead64 3 years ago
no need to appologize to me, i didnt take offence to anything you said, but maybe flightcrew feels different, sorry for your weekend, mine wasnt much better, i had to work on the 4th!!!

happyhead i notice you have a huge selection of music likes on your profile, but no donna summer or disco, do you like donna summer? or disco for that matter?? just curious
discoguy79 3 years ago
Actually, I am a HUGE fan of bands like Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, Blondie, Georgio Moroder and Patrick Cowley, B-52's, Gloria Gaynor, etc etc etc...so yeah, I like a LOT of music that could be considered "disco" or "dance", and I LOVED Donna's 'Breakfast With Gershwin", "MacArthur Park", "On the Radio", "Love is In Control"
happyhead64 3 years ago
thats "dinner with gershwin"..lol, i also like most of those bands...
discoguy79 3 years ago
Iam NOT ill informed and I dont appreciate you making a fool of me. Go screw yourself, prick.
happyhead64 3 years ago
Donna Summer never made remarks chastising gay people. Those were fabricated quotes misrepresenting her. She DID make clarification/apology to the public, voicing her support to the gay community.
Please do not speak for all of us. Donna Summer is a victim of hearsay and comments like yours only perpetuate the lie. You'd think with all the bullshit on coming out of the music industry over the last 15 years people would be psyched to here excellent new music from a living legend.
bosma64 3 years ago
I retract my statement, Like others, I was conned into believing what the media wanted me to believe, and your comment made me research it on the web and I found the article explaining what happened. I am truly sorry for my comments and my "dissing" Donna.
happyhead64 3 years ago
Thanks for that. Many people still swear by that damned rumour! I have met her a few times and she is the dearest lady you could ever meet. Plus, she has the sexiest brown eyes I have ever looked into. I can see why her husband was so attracted and remain to be. She has a sexy vibe about her that is not contrived. It is inate...like her talent!
druss01 3 years ago
Ms. Summer addresses this rumor and the libel case she won against the publication "NEW YORK MAGAZINE" in her autobiography "Ordinary Girl". The defendant (The writer) had no proof whatsoever that she had said such things (no audio, no video, no hand written notes, etc) and she "WON"!
flightcrew 3 years ago
so the fact that she won, does that mean she never said what she was accused of? i wish someone can tell me factual words that she allegedly said, not rumors...a recording for example, a direct quote, anything...just not a rumor
discoguy79 3 years ago
I don't think she ever made that statement. I think this rumor was started towards her becoming a born again. If not else this album has erase Mistaken I.D. I sure she'll be doing another cd with next year and a half.

love this song, i was born in 1979, and this song is my new favorite.. Donna is a fire
stylestar07 3 years ago
When she says "can you feel it", i get shivers, she sounds so sultry, and i was born in 1979.. and can still enjoy her classics as well as her latest music... it attracts a new audience like myself, and reminds the older audience how music should be fun and exciting..i love it, i feel like i am on fire and on top of the world when i hear this song..Donna Summers is so awesome ^_^

This sounds like it was recorded in the 70s. The music sounds like old, recycled disco beats. It's too old-fashioned. I hope the rest of the CD sounds more contemporary.

Disco as a genre is reoccuring, though we have seen a few regular disco hits last 8-9 years.

Look for Gloria Estafan's "Gloria!" CD; Sheena Easton's "Fabulous!" album, Cher's "Believe" and "Living Proof" CD's if you are looking for some VERY good disco revival sounds! Music based in joy that simply wants you to get up and dance!!
leftatalbuquerque 3 years ago
house is a sub-genre of disco as is freestyle, the word "disco" changed to dance in 1982-82....many aritsts today are influenced by disco, madonna being the biggest and most successful...

Go DoNNa do your best in 2008!!

i think her voice sounds a bit "weak", im not feeling the power anymore, there is something about the way she sounds lately thats not right, coupled with a mediocre tune, i predict a not so hot comeback. i hope the album is way better, why not chers production team? metro. they would have been perfect for her!! imagine donna singing "strong enough"?
discoguy79 3 years ago
This song is a mess. Goofy lyrics. Very bland melody. Her vocal doesn't even sound good. "Fire" the producer!! This should have never been released.

Get on the Donna BOAT, or drown!
freak0n8ure 3 years ago
its not "hating" its opinions from devoted fans who deserve better... a good song shouldnt have to be remixed to death!! a good song stands alone, this isnt one of them. and im a HUGE donna fan
discoguy79 3 years ago
