  • Did you forget to address the conflict as to whether or not Jack and his sister return to Earth or stay on the alien planet? If they return to Earth does the alien girlfriend come with them? Would love to know, and felt unresolved not knowing. BTW~ Did you ever write the story? Would love to read it if you did!

  • @SurvivalPath I did end up writing the story. It came out different but better. The ending is much stronger. I haven't gotten around to editing it, though, so I'd rather it not be read. However, I plan to write it as a screenplay after I finished the screenplay I am presently working on, a sci-fi epic called Namverse.

  • @architectus777 We would LOVE to read it.... Through the whole 12 part video lesson we were commenting on how much we would love to see this idea/story completed. So if ever you change your mind about letting other people read.... it share it with us, we dont care if it's been edited or not!!! You are a very creative thinker to come up with all of that of the top of your head. DO you have any completed work we can check out?

  • Great wonderful series....It cleared up a lot for me and gave me a great deal to think about in my own novel. Thank you.

  • Could you please demonstrate more different story structures?

(for example:- story inside a story)

  • @myrightquestion A frame story follows the same overall structure. You just creatively frame it with a story within a story, or jumping from past to present, but you still hit all the story structure marks. An example of this is Merrick by Anne Rice.

  • You posted a very good video...it was like watching the creative process in technicolor! I appreciate the practical steps and the self-checking process of organic flow. I've been stranded in the middle of a novel for almost a year now and this helps me tremendously!!! Thanks

  • thank u very much.

can we use this structure for telling personell story and jokes.

  • @rex3487 Sure, you would just reduce it to three acts. The basics. Person has a conflict, a goal, resistence reaching that goal, which is another kind of conflict, and then they reach the goal or utterly fail, but perhaps learn something by failing.

  • Thanx alot buddy... your videos were no less than awesome :) wow

Btw How about sending your plot to a producer/director ?? coz your plot is good enough :)) If it materializes into a movie, do share that experience too, kay ? :)) :D

Thanx for sharing all that stuff. Thanx alot :)

  • I have watch the entire part 1 through 12 all the way through without ever stopping. I had some troubles with writing and this video series has helped me out a lot and gave me so many good ideas. I have searched over about a year or 2 on story writing and most of them haven't helped me and some have but this is the best I have seen and I can't thank you enough on that. Thank you sir and have a wonderful life! :)

  • Don't shoot the penus.

  • Thanks for this video series I've learn't ALOT 10 stars. Thanks again sir.

  • these had to be the most useful but unnoticed videos on youtube. This was worth the whole 120mins.

  • nice very very helpful

  • I happened to read Anatomy of the Story before I found this video. I think that you give helpful review of the various parts of the story. I really appreciated the portion on how the physiological and sociological aspects of a character can reveal their psychological state and values. I would like to see more on how to add twists to a plot.

  • Your tutorial was absolutely brilliant. I am sure that it will help me develop my first novel. I did not know where to begin, and your structure explanation really gave me a great idea as where to start and how to develop the novel. I am very grateful for such great help.

    Thanks

  • Really good set of videos. I've been trying to finish my fantasy story for a while now and these videos has really helped me understand the writing process in more detail. I actually just found your videos today and watch all 12 within several hours. I'll definitely check out more of your videos.

  • I have now finishwed my musical plot thanks to you. I was stuck for about a year and a half. yikes. I so appriciate your instructional videos. Now I can get to work.

  • Fantastic. This is really uplifting.

  • I watched this whole series and some other videos of yours and I can't thank you enough. It has really helped me flesh out my book more where I was struggling to do so.

    It is coming to life.

I also find you quite funny as you do your thing, authentic, spontaneous, organic ;-) and nice to see someone who does not feel like he has to be defensive against postings that seek to tear you down. I for one really appreciate the help and do learn more with an example of story unfolding before me.

    Thanks.

  • @FeminineSource Thanks for the kind comment. If you click on the link in the description, you will find more free video series on writing. There is another version, better IMO, of Story Structure and Plot.

  • great guide, thank you. would like to see a guide on how you decide on dialogue and commentary to give the story and back & forth treatment.

  • This has been a great help to me. I'm rating five stars and thanking you, I could not have finished my novel had it not been for these vidieos.

  • Whats in this for you ?

  • Many things.

  • Thankyou so much for this. It has helped me understand so much, and answered many of my questions. Having your story giving examples along the way was so helpful, as it allowed me to consider many elements of my own work. Great details! Great story you just pulled out of nowhere by the way! haha brilliant. All the best to you

  • my book has a love scene at the end :)

  • appreciate this, i worked on my book while i watched it because i got so many ideas on filling in all the blanks I had. My story is lacking opponents, but I think my main character is very much her own opponent

  • Im having trouble with my current novel, my heroin's main ally ( a supportive character who really tries to keep the heroin on track throughout his immoral actions ect) turns out to be his main opponent and was really hindering him. My problem is, how do i show the opponent's point of view without giving it away? or how do i not show the opponent's point of view whilst still maintaining him as an ally?

  • To not give it away to the character, write a chapter from the bad guy's POV. To not give it away to the reader, well, I don't know.

  • Excellent. Just excellent. For years I've been searching for something that made this much sense! I'm beginning my third novel and, having written two novels using the index-cards-on-an-inclined-plane ;) approach, I'm looking forward to building one with a more extensive structure/framework. Cheers for this.

  • Thank you so much. I have never seen a video on youtube that was so complete and informitive. I have so many topic to write about. I just did not know how to get them out of my head and put them on paper. Now, thanks to you, I know how to put structure to my thought.

    thank you so much

    sandy

  • Best video series in youtube ever! I've never experienced such delightful knowledge and i realized i learned a lot of new things while watching this video. Thankyou so much for posting and making a path to follow for all us new writers.

    Sincerely, Katherine.

  • Thank you. I will be uploading a new and better version. I will also be uploading a series on Show Don't Just Tell.

  • Thank you for sharing this video with us aspiring authors. You really brought light to what so many books I've read didn't clearly show their meaning. I am having some problems with world building, especially historical setting background. Description, for me, is not a strong point. I have a couple of great stories but the starting point (world building, description, setting) has me stuck with a blank piece of paper. Again, thank you for your videos. I will look forward to new ones coming out!

  • thank you so much for making these videos! you know I've written almost everything you said down to remind me when I'm writing and this really helped me creating my plot!

    so thank you : )

  • You're welcome. I'm glad it helped. I often stare at the image I made while I am working out a plot for a story. It helps me put it all together. I pretty much go through the same process I do in these videos, but a lot faster.

BTW, I will be coming out with a software package for rewriting and editing. It's going to be awesome. I think I am going to call it Master Edit.

  • Excellent - I wish I found this a long time ago. As for what I like to see next, probably be on world building or MC building.

    Fantastic work though, architectus777.

    Thank you

  • I finally have reason to develop my Characters and give them a story. Thank you very much!!

  • not only have you sparked my creativity with my own story, but ive been coming up with good (i think there good) ideas for jack and bob's story.

  • This series has really helped me as I strive to be a good writer. I will be certainly looking at your other videos.

    Thanks

    Paul

  • Thank you!

  • Power packed stuff. Thanks for your insights. Finding it a source of driving inspiration.

    Thanks

  • I'm glad I could help inspire you.

  • Dear Architectus,

I'm from brazil so I ask you to forgive my mistakes. I have to improve my english.

Your video lessons help me a lot. I wrote more than ten pages of ideas inspired by what you taught.

One point that I have some doubts

is "point of view". Do you have some more lessons about this subject?

    Thank you,

    Roberto.

  • (It's organic)

    IT'S ALIVE!!! AHHH!

    *STOMP STOMP STOMP

    *raaaaaaoorgh!!!

Just kidding. Thanks a lot for the video series. I learned a lot.

  • really great series

    thanks a good job

  • This was great. I watched it from the beginning and that's because I just finished reading "On Writing" by Stephen King.

    Thanks a lot.

  • thank you! you have no idea how much you've helped me. thank you a thousand times.

  • Thank you for leaving a comment. I'm glad the information could help. It has helped me greatly.

  • Thx for uploading! Really great explanation. I like the hectic way you talk sometimes, it keeps me awake :)

Maybe you could tell more about world building and how to increase the conflict between the main character and his opponent? Great work so far.

  • I would like to hear about world building. Thank you for making this series, you really helpped me alot.

  • great series...I followed along the whole way building up my own little story. Awesome work.

  • same here. lol
