  • This bring back memories when i had to go to Memphis when school let out for the summer in Chicago.

  • I remember this commercial. LOL~!

  • I think that is possibly Ira Louvin singing this-I know he did some others.

  • I CALL BULLSHIT!! That cartoon hillbilly is wearing shoes....

  • @dieselscience It is only in cartoons you see alot of hillbillys not wearing shoes. Very few didn't wear shoes.

  • y-9D? for all I know that could of been enriched uranium they had in their sausage, so vauge.

  • Heaven on earth:)

  • and we all got cancer.1,2,3........

  • Eating some now .... good stuff!!

  • Y-9D = Cream of OGC

  • country bumpkins

  • Tennessee Pride is my favorite sausage, aside from Jimmy Dean of course. The tune is pretty darn catchy.

  • I'm on the new one :)

  • Man, as a Nashville girl, I totally remmeber this, I used to sing it!

I also did anactual back up singing for a sausage commercial in 1969, while in Nashville, me and my sister and 2 brothers. 'Jakes brothers Hot, Jakes brothers mild, Jake's brothers on your plate makes you want to smile"!!

  • This one is for my BFF whos birthday is tomorrow

  • Y-9D? Try MSG

  • my band was based on this commercial

  • Damn!! I have not seen this commercial since I was a kid!!

  • that just blew my mind...i bought some today so...

  • i love this i eat tenesee pride all the time its cool so funny

  • I was always under the impression Ira Louvin of the Louvin brothers was the voice of the commercial.

  • You're right on that! Listening to Eddie Stubbs WSM program some time back, they had just found out that was the case. Eddie & his connections pretty much know their stuff.

  • Da scrt of the gdness iz da rcpy!

  • You again...

  • Well, well, well, we meet again knave! Let us not defame the greatness of this commercial and call a truce. But if we meet again, it will be your downfall!

  • Carte blanche.

  • This sausage rapes.

  • I went to school in Nashville with a guy named Bobby Bloom who legend has it was the voice behind "Take Hooooome..."

In '74 I attended a high school seminar where the creator spoke to aspiring animators and showed his portfolio of ads. He was a nice guy, but I think the only ones who got any career direction were future DIY punks.

  • We get it on the military bases out here in California, it IS the best, hands down.

  • best sausage ever. seriously

  • what he hell is y9d some sort of addictive sausage material

  • Beautiful. We used to sing that song at UT in Knoxville, my favorite part was "Take hooooooome ....." hahahaha Great, sausage is the best in the world too.

  • I love this--it's the only sausage we ever bought. Today, I actually order it online. We were from West TN/Memphis, and this is the only brand anyone used. I still remember the commercials from the 60s. Thanks for posting!!

  • i live in tn. i wasn't even born yet when that aired. i'm still probily youngest on here.

  • Tennessee is a weird state in this regard. West Tennessee around Memphis is closest to being Deep South. Nashville and middle Tennessee has a strong MIdwest flavor similar in many ways to St Louis, Cincinnati and Lousville. Knoxville is similar to a modern mountain culture.

  • This is our Amos and Andy.

  • tenesse prides and green hawain punch FTW!!...BRIAN SYBAM HOE

  • tenesee prides pwn you all

  • "But before this song is done all plate?" Is that what he says?

  • I think it's- "But before this song has done all played...". It's Tennessee-speak, ya know.

  • @Granitoons

"But before this song is done all played." I guess it takes a Tennessee boy to translate.

  • @Granitoons HE SAYS " TAKE HOME A PACKAGE OF TENNESSEE PRIDE"

  • Comment removed

  • this is terrifying.

  • Agreed! Take HOOOOME!!! a PACKage of Tennessee Pride. Scary stuff!

  • That song is funny! I live in Tennessee, and theirs not hicks everywhere like that commercial more less is showing.

    AWESOME SAUSAGE BTW!!!!!

  • Nothing like Tennessee :)

  • Memories.

I remember all the words and I never knew I knew them!

  • Ahh, that commercial brings back memories of growing up in Tennessee.

  • Same here! I haven't had that sausage in many years but I remember it being quite delicious. Yikes, that

Y-9D sounds like a component of nuclear waste (and Oak Ridge is located in Tennessee)! Just kidding, I know that they weren't about to give away trade secrets on a commercial and were just calling a perfectly safe, edible ingredient by that tag!

  • it's code for green hog pee!

  • I grew up with this ad on every TV station every hour or so. It gives me nightmares even to this day. 8>))

  • "Take home a PACKAGE of Tennessee Pride".

Not that lame "pound or two". What's the deal with that?

  • who remembers the shorter commercial with the voice of Odom at the end saying "It's tasty... And it's real tender, too!"

  • The late Ira Louvin did the voice of the "hillbilly" on this. He was 1 of the Louvin Brothers, who were Grand Ole Opry members, & sang sensational brother duets up to their parting in 1964, & Ira's death in 1965. Thanks for making this available as I haven't heard this in over 30 years, & Thanks to Eddie Stubbs on WSM for the above info about Ira singing the part!

  • Naw, naw, naw. Youins aint got it right yet. That revenue agent that went missin was just the beginnen of the secret recipe. Them yankee touristers taste pretty dang good too.

  • They just haven't tasted the same since Y-9D was banned by the FDA.

  • Yeah. All that fuss over a few genetic mutations. I happen to think two-headed lab rats are cool. Monsanto lost a fortune on that deal. Y-10A just wasn't as good IMHO, plus it didn't rhyme with the jingle.

  • That may have been the most run commerical in Middle Tennesse history. Clever ad, the "secret" of the secret recipe.

  • Jimmy Dean would kick that farmboys ass!

  • Awesome!

  • I like that commercial a lot. It is down home all right, but I am sold on Bob Evans, me being a lifelong Ohio boy.

  • Rare 1950's Tennessee Pride commercial still with the farmboy character!

"Take home a package of Tennessee Pride!"

  • I just don't trust that Mr Odum. What is Y-9d??? It could be Soylent Green for all I know.

  • Y-9d is people!

  • Naw, it's sumthin' they dredged up from the ponds in Oak Ridge - you know, the ones with frawgs that glow in the dark.

  • tennessee pride sausage is made in madison, n.e. of nashville.
