Love what you've done with this music video. Deeper And Deeper is one of the best tracks the band have done. It is THE BEST musical intro with JWO's guitar put through Greenall's synth machines. Sounds so futuristic and cool. And whoever said the Fixx albums milked from the same idea, that is such a load of crap. They were and still are one of the most cerebral and thought-provoking bands in history. Just takes an intellectual to get their new wave debonair and slick, sophisticated charm.
The adding of the Aeon Flux cartoon goes perfect with the song. Great choice! I just love the bass guitar in the background. I could listen to this song over and over again. Wait! I have been!!
The synth intro just sounds amazing cranked loud on a great stereo system. This song was so far ahead of its time and I'm still not sure if its time has yet come.
I am ashamed that I am responding to a entry of over 2 years ago. I agree that the Fixx is the most under-rated bands of all time. Oh! Yeah.. And one of the best of all time. Fixx? If you want fame and fortune, have a reunion tour.... Milliions......
I always tried to figure how they recorded Jamie's guitars on this, but then realizing they used two rooms one with him mic'd in and then a second to capture echo's off the walls. I could be wrong but it's incredibly well done.
Absolutely one of the best songs out there, even after all this time....kids today need to step back, and realize music as it was, and not today's crap, in my opinion
opened for these guys in San Francisco in '02 and it was the 4th time seeing them. They were, of course, fantastic and good guys back stage as well. The Fixx were also my 1st concert in 1983. Reach The Beach tour, Seattle, WA at The Paramount Theater.
@MrDollaBill64 I saw them in Atlanta, they opened for Moody Blues. I spoke with Cy briefly. He came out and stood on the side of the stage with Adam to watch the MB play, and I told him that I came to the concert just to see the Fixx, as I had no interest in the MBs. Cy was very humble and down to earth.
@nahars I worked at Municipal Auditorium in Nashville during my late teens, and got to meet these guys. They were very down to earth and appreciated their fans.
It sounds like my RL in total stereo sound!!!! im glad i got back into the Fixx in my life again, i only heard 3 songs from the when they were on top back in 1985..i recently got back into this band!! I am so glad!! I love thier new music even better!
I saw them open for The Moody Blues in the mid 80's and I think I enjoyed their show better except the bass player had a weird way of holding the bass ,it was kind of annoying but great show.
actually, you are wrong, it was recorded especially for the film "Streets of Fire" it was released as a b-side dujring the phantoms singles to give fans a way of getting it without buying the horrible soundtrack
True, but the "Streets of Fire" soundtrack had the shorter inferior version. This is the better version, it's a little longer with a longer intro and it did end up on the B-side of the "Are We Ourselves?" single. It should've been it's own single.
@miser42 Loved the Soundtrack. How can you hate Bonnie Tyler, Jim Steinmann, the Blasters, Dan Hartman, Ry Cooder and Maria McKee all at the same time?? They're all in separate genres. Stupid comment. I loves me some Fixx, but I'd rather listen to 12 songs by these heritage artists than a whole album by the Fixx attempting to milk 12 songs off basically the same musical idea.
@voxepisode nobody said they hated those artists. however, those artists added a lot of filler music to the soundtrack.....with he exception of Dan Hartmans song and the Fixx song.....the soundtrack falls flat. But...that is my opinion. Oh, and your assessment of the Fixx's milking one idea for an album is about as asinine of a comment as I have seen in regards to a band. You confuse style and sound. You also, have obviously never really listened to a Fixx album. Alas, once more...it is opinion
i remember this song when it arrived (i doubt it's about the US budget good lord) i never cared for to much of that 80's over processed puppy metal sound, but this song has a hard hitting hook and bridge and i really enjoyed. to me a rare gem from a generation lost in greed and shallowness lmao
*And yes Alice in Chains was metal before some know-it-all greater-than-thou everything other than metal sucks.. type ignoramous chimes in. Some of the best metal ever done as well. So stuff it before you think it lame-o.
I still had Alice Cooper/Black Sabbath and Deep Purple on the brain in the 80's and saw Streets of Fire but don't remember this tune at all. Compared to what I was listening to the 80's music was just lame and made by english queers. Now in 2009 been the full circle and some 80's stuff is ok. and let us not forget Bauhaus. But metal went on great into the 90's and until Layne Staley-Alice in Chains OD'd. Kobain did his share to ruin metal but was good in it's own rite.Megadeth is the almighty.
This was one of the top three all time bad-ass friggin' cool songs in all the 80's but it never gets played in any of the retrospectives. Well what the hell is that all about? The other two are "Submarines" by Thomas Dolby and "The Sun Always Shines on TV" by aHA for those who are just joining us.
I have owned this CD forever and still listen to it every year, it's my ocean "Driving Music"... it's starting to skip now on track red skies... although very refreshing to see the video, I'm still gonna buy a fresh copy of CD ... Peace !
Great song! I think the singer can be heard belching right after the first chorus. (Maybe he drank a root beer right before going into the studio.) It works for the song though - he does it in time.
Easily my favorite Fixx song. Tragically underrated. It's one of those songs that can get me moving. Thanks for posting. Also the combo with Aeon Flux is right on. Good job.
thanks 4 this gr8 posting - i hadn't realised how many songs by The Fixx i liked while growing up...and the Streets of Fire soundtrack had some amazing tracks - Dan Hartman, etc...
Love the song. Best song they did. I have this on 45. Yes, a long version on a 45. How they did put it all on there I will never know, thinner groove I guess. Video pretty cool too. Good job.
So many great songs by The Fixx, but they were arguably at their best with this track.
