Why not continue the mordents, grace notes and trills throughout?
I do. It is difficult but worth it. It is like flat beer with them omitted.
The E. Power Biggs recording on the D.A. Flenthrop organ is the best I have ever heard of BWV 577. Could only be better if Biggs played all the ornaments, even in the pedal.
Wish Helmut Walcha had recorded it. Some believe this is not Bach.
Who else could have written this magnificent work?
This is a nicely textured performance of a great piece of music that has wrung me out for forty some years, since my old Mom bought me my first E. Power Biggs album. Hooray for Bach, you bet. And hooray for people who take time to listen to and learn his music.
Copyrights not found in the Bible? Thou Shalt Not Steal. What'd u expect, God to spell out exactly to Moses' ppl 4000 yrs ago that Digital Piracy is a no-no? Yours is a form of fanaticism akin to skeptics, but worse, because u call urself "Christian".
In calling urself so, u seem to implicity reject Teaching Authority of those 2 Institutions founded upon Moses and the Rock of St. Peter. Now many Popes and Rabbi's since Peter erred, but it doznt mean u makup ur own Bible & religion.
Stealing means taking something which does not belong to you. However, copyright is a very specific thing in the law, something which was created in law and can be changed or eliminated by law. The law works on the will of the people, and the will of the people has been thwarted by improper use of copyright. Laws have been changed to favor the producers of information over the consumers, and people now are demanding the law change. I agree with them.
You condemn me for saying I'm a Christian yet agreeing with those who say the copyright laws must change. And you show absolutely no sign of being a Christian. You do not understand what Christianity is. Christianity is not founded on Peter, it is founded on the Rock of Jesus Christ. Every pope is a servant of Satan, and the rabbis since the time of Christ and before have been wrong. Your unclean speech betrays your unbelief. I would to God that you would repent before him and believe.
@ccoraxfan looks like Lustrum0005 likes u, but more than a few of his commentators say he's psycho. If like attracts like, not good for u, who claims to have the monopoly on "true" chreeestians. Didn't Proverbs say something about fools being unable to heed telltale signs?

@arthursulit I have no say over who likes me. And I don't recognize "Didn't Proverbs say..." followed by vague notions. If you wish to quote Proverbs, then quote it!
On behalf of The American Guild of Organists, thank you for this post.
As a Regional Councillor and son to a former National President and National Councillor, I say keep up the good work.
Some viewers should understand, that many great organists started with Nothing and had to play music on whatever they could, then when they became known and received financial gifts, then they moved up or upgraded.
I started in a church that had only 100 members, now I play for thousands.
Thanks for visiting! If you're in Charlotte, NC, then for sure it's easier to build an organist career there, as it's still east coast conservative. (I've been there).
If you're Protestant or Presbyterian, then it's easier too.
But if try being Catholic in Liberal California, then forget about finding any parish that will pay, or treat us above a Janitor, except at a Cathedral. They Pirate, & want everything for free here.
Also, of Composers? No Great Ones fur 300 yrs? Cuz No1 pays
I am a very devoted Christian and when I started performing in a Methodist Church of 100 members, i was making 0, and this was during my teens and while my father was National President, then the recommendation came by his office that I receive pay.
Upon graduation from High School and moving to where I live now, I play at many Churches, Cathedrals, Temples. and Masonic Temples with a wage of $800/wk.
Yes, a few mutations seem to pop out of nowhere but Bach's polyphony is so beautiful that there is just no incorrect way to present it. I love it all. I'd listen to Bach no matter what.
Good sir! I respect wholeheartedly your pusillaminous rectitudes, but indeed Scripture says "Thou Shalt Not Steal". So pls stop justifying piracy, we know you still do it, apparently. But that is not the main point. Read carefully, I am calling out the Churches, for failing to follow Nehemiah 12-13 in properly respecting, appreciating, and paying their own music ministers....which by the way leads to more piracy and abortion worldwide, if you truly know how to read Scripture. Pray & Learn!
Congratulations on your ability to use words which are not found in most online dictionaries. However, I am far from small minded, and your «respect» for my «pusillaminous rectitudes» sounds more like you are spitting in my face. I am not a thief. Good day, sir.
Thx for the info, 1/2 of it is correct. However, you err on a point of Divine Law: Nehemiah 12-13, which states that priests and congregation are supposed to be grateful, and to support music ministers from the tithes "according to their needs". This is violated everywhere--that's why the AGO was formed.
Your sin of omission does not bring peace, when in effect, it denies the faithful their right to hear authentic music, causing lower attendance, and more abortion. Pray about that.
The only non-pipe effect that shows with this electronic organ (and others I've heard) is the decay at the end sounds bell-like as the sound fades: The high frequencies reverb persist longer than with a natural pipe organ. On the other hand, the sound throughout is very bright, crisp and distinct which magnificently highlights Bach's polyphony. As such, I like this organ better than a "real" one and I give it a 10 out of 10 score :-)
I like this organ too but I've heard a pipe organ with a reverb of 9 seconds before and normally that depends on the architecture of the the building that houses the organ.
On computer, the mutation heard early in the piece is a little too distracting - louder than the fundamental pitches. Wish this were in stereo to allow greater clarity.
BTW, can anyone post Bach's Fugue in G Major "Gigue" performed by E. Power Biggs on Flentrop organ, on YouTube?
Best of Gigue I have ever heard anywhere.
Is Biggs' "mordent" in the pedal an accident or intentional?
Great job! I'm very encouraged, as I've been working on this piece for a year and half, on and off. It's just now coming together, despite a touch of neuropathy in my feet, which doesn't help...
I really enjoyed the home built instrument too. My at-home practicing is on a Hammond Model A from 1937--pure penance.
Finally, AMEN to your remark about music in churches, referencing Nehemiah. Deliver me from the 3-12-20 syndrome! (3 chords, 12 words, 20 repetitions.)
I feel like this is bach's lighter side, while still reverence and powerful, it is light and joyous.....I love E. Power Biggs version best...what as rush when it ends
"Trust your feelings" does not apply to you, because you do not have the Force. If you saw me playing my own Sonata I, you will know that I have abundance of Force, thank Gott for varying Gifts, according to Corinthians 1.
Ah, too bad for you, since you do have an apparent tendency to pull dishonest pranks on your site. But if you're for real and your CD is of E Power Biggs, then I have succeeded in playing similar to one of the greatest organists of all time, yet still unique to me. Perhaps your ears are defective unable to distinguish subtle differences, or you are joking, or your CD is pirated copy of my stuff.
I can E-Mail you the mp3 if you want proof I am for real. For this and the little fugue sound EXACTLY like the one on my cd. The cd was compiled by my dad from multiple web sites like Virtually baroque. If you put this on a web site, I probebly have it on my cd. Or it probebly is from Biggs. I also don't have a website. And what dishonest Pranks? You are probebly thinking of Biff22.
Some of the telltale signs this is mine include my own account of its defects: pedals mixed too soft, Distortion at 2:25 onwards from the buildup I did overloading my reel tape deck, and other defects no label would have released. Still, my performance here was acclaimed to be the best one out there, by concert artists and critics alike. Not bad for a home recording, eh? Now, if only More people would support this kind of music in churches...per Nehemiah 12-13...
Hey man, can u tell me where some of those sites are posting my material? I need to make them an offer they can't refuse, like a horse's head under their bed sheets as a warning.
sounds good for a homebuilt electronic organ...but gotta fix the piano parts, it sounds like it changes to another key, cuz the loudest notes are not the correct ones....
Well done,my congratulations, very suitable registration and good speed(that's a discussed device nowadays). I agree and like your way to perform Bach. Bye.

Hi,i am looking for a fugue speciallist to tell me what is that chromatic fugue:

I found it as notes and then i made it with a music notation program

Sony SUCKS. Try listening to Biggs' "Jig" fugue. you get: This video contains content from SME. It is not available in your country.
It was recorded in the USA.

This sounds more like something Bach would of done on the pedal harpsichord, than the organ.
This one has basic counterpoint, but it pretty difficult to play.
Biff947 2 years ago
Sadly, there is serious doubt that Bach wrote this gem. It may have been written by Krebs.

I would love to think this is Krebs and give him, or someonelse, the credit.

So nice to hear this again.
What a magnificent, complex, fulfilling, rhythmic, joyful celebration.
(Marie Claire-Alain's boring performance sounds like an organ study.)
Even more amazing when I learned this is an electronic organ.
Thank you.
