A few months ago i tried to take my life b/c i couldn't handle how uncomfortable i was with myself being bisexual...since then, my parents have made it apparant that that '"lifestyle"is and will never be acceptable...life seems worse most days, but more videos definitelely need to be made like this to help others know that being gay is completely normal and natural....
there isn't alot about this subject on youtube or anywhere in mainstream media for that matter and there really ought to be. Internalized hatred is a very difficult thing to overcome; its a powerful emotion. thank you for posting this.
Jenn and Ashleigh, Your video is wonderful! I am again blown away by your insightfulness, self-awareness, and courage. Let's talk about what else you might want to do with the video at Wheelock and in the larger community.
Now that I've seen this video twice - once in class and again on line - I'm doubly impressed by your courage and honesty. Congratulations on doing a change project that helped you to look into your own hearts and to open the hearts of those around you. Kim
This video came out really great Ashleigh and Jeaan. I wish that everyone could appreciate this, but I guess that's what makes open-minded people so special. I really enjoyed watching this because this is the side of the issue that people don't see, or just refuse to. One of the most appealing parts of this are your personal experiences, they're painfully honest. Thank you for making this and sharing this, the world needs it. I'm so glad that you're changing the world little by little.
Your video came out really well. I couldn't read whatever you had typed on the screen next to your faces though. Besides that, it was great how you guys went back and forth with your personal stories, and I am sure that some of it was things that people could relate to regardless if they are homosexual or not. It was interesting to get two different points of view and have two different sets of things that really worried you guys when it was the same topic. Excellent job.
This was great girls! I give you a lot of credit for being able to share your stories from the past in such a way. I think it was very inspirational and factual while at the same time being a unique outlet in which to say what you know is right. You guys are awesome:-)
This video was amazing. I had never really thought about the whole religion and church thing before. That really opened my eyes Ashleigh. This video really made me realize how homophobia can affect people who are homosexual. I wouldn't change anything about the film! Good job!!
By the way, you're ending "There's nothing about love that's wrong", made me cry!
I thought that you guys did a great job of balancing information with personal testimony, and created sympathy and understanding but not pity for your individual stories. I was just wondering if internalized homophobia has ever presented a change in your views of others, possibly becoming less trusting or able to accept others (even if they accept you) because there are times in which you would not accept yourself, or question your self worth.
Jen and Ashleigh, this video tells me that both of you will make a difference through your words and voices. I am so proud of you, Jen. You were meant to change lives, and I know that you have already but will continue to forever. I love you. Great job, both of you. I wish more people were this brave.
Wow. ladies. You did a great job on this video. I give you props on how much you have shared. I can relate to some of what the both of you have said. Especially when it came to coming out to my old best friends back in high school. I support both of you two. let me know if you need anything else.
I really liked this jen i didnt know about the whole church thing it opened my eyes a little into your life but i think its cool that you did this good job to you and all the people who helped you
OMG! hun this video is amazing! I was wondering if I could possibly steal the idea of doing a video on homosexuality/internalized homosexuality and try to put something together with Refuge next year. Let me know... and let me know if you have any suggestions. You're awesome and I love you! I know what you're not alone. This video is one that speaks volumes, maybe it will speak to others too. Great Job! I love you!
really liked the super cool background you guys had for all your shots.
One question though. You guys talked a lot about how you have acquired this internalized homophobia, but do you feel you have ever treated someone differently because they are gay? In a negative or positive way I guess, but I guess the real question is, since you have this internalized homophobia, do you think it ever manifested itself against another homosexual?
first of all, i want to commend you girls for taking on such a big project.. i heard that you guys were having trouble but it seems as though your work has come out fine. i like the way that you defined internalized homophobia in the beginning and the mood it sets for the rest of the project. I also liked how you girls used yourselves as the subjects of the video. It is very personal and it takes a lot to want to share yourselves with other people.
