Bill Gates has set up an organization to channel money from his vast fortune to improve conditions for children in Africa. For those who care about the possible extinction of Gorillas in the wild the Bronx Zoo in New York is looking for donations to protect the natural habitat and lives of the endangered primates.
I agree! Even is you save the species, their habitat is gone! They should domesticate them and sell them as pets. Later on if the forest comes back, we could let them loose!
nope, theres millions of children in Africa, they arent going to dissapear if we leave them, theres only 400 mountain gorillas in the wild (i think) they do have a chance of dieing out - because of out actions.
Zoos are better managed since the 1990s, and the gorillas are in kept in comparative safety - why should the cute little thing be subjected to deranged African thugs with their machetes and AKs?
I agree, the zoos are in it to make money, not conservation. They actually are a huge part of the illegal trade in the wildlife underground. Read Animal Underground.
Where exactly do you think these animals originally came from? Are you aware that top zoos in this country actually breed babies to draw in crowds and then sell them thru the underground to circuses, roadside zoos and canned hunting? As I said, read Animal Underground where a thorough investigation was done and exposed this. On the great apes I have adopted both gorillas and chimps, am active in getting research animals relocated, etc. WTF have YOU done?
yea but some times they take care of monkey or other animals that has been hurt by humans in many other lands but thats few and i kinda hate zoos to...
Zoo's do help the animals they displaying. Maybe read about how sometimes some of those APES go to a zoo from a Lab.
I hate to see the animals out of their natural environment...I would LOVE to see it. But, stupid piece of crap humans want to eat them, steal their babies, put them in a friggin' movie, or just to keep the ape as a torphy...
The ape is fading and sadly to say!!!
Zoos are one of those places to help keep them alive.
ic ic...hmmm... i guess this is just a difference of oppinion. i see where you are comming from, psychocalikitty, but it just kills me to see a massive beast behid bars. Zoos are doing their part to conserve animals, i guess, but in a perfect world they could be free from humans poaching and abusing the land.

im not saying that hunters are ok. that should be stopped, and the african governments are taking the steps to eliminate poachers (sp?)
ne ways , all im saying is that they should be left in the wild, instead of behind bars and gwaked at.

In the states zoos can not get animals from overseas. You need to read up on a few things.
The zoos in 3rd world countries are the ones that contribute to the "Pet Trade".
I have seen you post in a few places fishmarc. What are YOU doing to help the Great Apes from disappearing from the wild???
