I'd love for you to do a wind test. I have a kodak zi8 and I need to record at a beach..but it's always windy, and the wind sounds are so loud. Is there anything I can do? Thank you so much!
Im looking for a mic that i could add to the zi8 to record at a concert at the front row and get good sound quality without the sound in the mic blowing due to the high volume/bass. What would you recommend?
@CurleysPizzeria I don't test wind, because they all have the same response. They all get wind noise. Screens only prevent verly loud pops, but even a little wind blowing across a foam cover will make noise. So testing in wind is useless. Not to mention I can't control wind. May as well test by blowing or use a fan. But testing wind has been pointless to me in the past. It makes a lot of noise regardless of the mic.
@jykazu Every mic dose NOT have the same response to wind. I guess your haven't realized there are actually some days with little to no wind, there is in general more background noise outdoors which a good mic shouldn't pic up as much. Also "testing the cover, not the mic" Bullshit, the covers are another feature of the mic.. each mic is different and each cover works differently. But i guess it doesn't matter for making silly videos in your kitchen

I don't do anything that requires me to test wind. Maybe you can do that. Your original comment whined about why no one does any wind tests. The moise I have tested in the past are not the noise of the wind on the mic, but the noise of the wind on the camera or screen. All mics I have tried in wind have the same noise, because I am on the same camera in high wind. Maybe you mean moderate to low wind. I have found wind testing to be irrelevant, because I always get noise.
@CurleysPizzeria Oh. One more thing. Testing wind does not test a microphone and it's structure or response, because you can try to cover the microphone to protect against wind. You would be testing the cover, not the microphone.
Hey man, I couldn't find the dual video mount bracket you were talking about. I'm getting an ATR 55 shotgun mic and a Kodak zi10 Playtouch for christmas. I was wondering if you could link me to the tripod and accessories I would need to have a good set up. Thanks in advance.
@HangingwithJoe Definitley get the Zi8, Even the Ultra HD Flip doesnt compare to the Zi8.The only disadvantage to the Zi8 is its $20 more expensive at walmart and you have to buy a $20 SD(memory car) if you want longer videos. The Flip doesn't have removable memory, so yea, you might spend the extra $40, but the payoff is much better, the Zi8 has image stabilization and better zoom, the flip doesnt have Image stabilization The Zi8 has 1080p compared to the flips 720. The Zi8 is the better choice
do you mind letting me know how you mount your boom mic onto the zi8? I was looking into shotgun mics and don't quite understand how to mount them onto the zi8 yet
@sector9kidz If you want to mount a boom mic to your zi8 they make some frames that camera stores sell that mount the camera-and accessories to it-like mics ,lighting etc. its like an l shaped bracket. hope that shelps
@sector9kidz Inline other larger cameras where you mount the mic to the camera, you mount both the Zi8 and the mic to a mount with spaces. Look at amazon and search something like dual video mount bracket to see examples.

why does no one test outdoors with wind?? Even the built in mic's work perfect indoors, not much of a test.
