I don't even have decks or anything yet (hopefully soon) but it's nice to see someone take the time out of their day to help the rest of the world learn a craft that would have otherwise gone on without props or people knowing what exactly the're doing. Thanks
I've listened to many live sets of some of my favorite producers and like you said, some of them can't beatmatch or even fade vocals in correctly. It's amazing where hype can get you. I was just telling my friend the other day that Benny Benassi could play "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and add a kick drum underneath and the crowd would go insane.
to the guy that is disabled: anyone who gives u shit about that fuck them do what u love ur probably really good dont let anyone tell u different peace and love man
Dj Tiesto were playing in Tallinn HORRIBLE! Every one was like WOW DJ TIESTO! But i realy liked how the local Estonian Dj (dont know who he was) played!
Yes, I do think Fatboy Slim is a good DJ. If you want to check out his dj-ing, I seriously recommend the "On The Floor At The Boutique" he released in 1998. It's got some very good funky breaks/big beat and Acid and stuff like that, and he mixes it really well.
can i ask ya something i've bin making some music and i'm not sure where to go from here plus i'm in a wheelchair so i'm not sure people will take me seriously w.b.s
I think you have great points, especially in regards to respecting the crowd, the club, etc. and reflecting on your performance as opposed to taking "haters'" words to heart. I have been djing for 2 weeks now and have to be my own toughest judge and have to know when to pat myself on the back. Thanks always, Jonathon.
The "person" who has a disliking to you, I seen it all. All you need is, look up and if everyone else is having a good time you'r not at fault!
A disco DJ at a pub was asked to play some pink floyd, there is only two tracks you can call "disco" music but this chap wasn't happy as he tries to put the DJ's down but this case it backfired and he left with a middle finger pointing up. Bar staff said he was the first DJ to ever make him leave!
Your tutorial vids have been a great help as its kinda hard to get DJ tutorial info in Malaysia unless you are filthy rich and you go to those DJ schools.
It was always hurtful having to endure all the ego driven hate. I've trained myself to accept those comments. Rather then take it to heart I'll say, "well that's ok everyone has their opinion. I'm trying to get better". I have a friend that was awesome in Hip Hop. Some said he totally stinks. It's not their true opinion because I know them well enough. Raps from the heart not for money. Ggreat guy. Insecure people will put you down. Don't be one of them
About the jealousy thing. You can justify things in many different ways, but I don't think that saying 'these people are just jealous' is the right thing. I think that they just don't like the music you play and that's perfectly normal. I don't like some big DJ's too, but that doesn't mean I'd like to be in their shoes, I just didn't like the performance etc, you know? That's what I think about it.
you have a great didactic way to explain things, not only in this video but also in most of the others... i love your videos they are very helpful for my DJing-progress.... keep up the good work....
beeing dj has a good future?, that is my question today, cause im wondering if i must dedicate all my time to practice and enjoy, or just stay in collegue studiyng, what it really will breing me good life in future, so that is my question??
It's all sort of a credibility issue, isn't it? People trust a name they are familiar with. Is that hype or is that just a good reputation.. a little bit of both I suppose.
I saw roger sanchez the other night, he was amazing. He worked the crowd, but he knew his equipment so well, and di some amazing things, using 3 cd players, and fx boxes and what not, He derves the hype I think
I watched the Brighton Beach party gig a few weeks ago. He seems to play the right tunes at the right time. Is that a skill?
He expresses a lot of energy while DJin also, which people love.
In the end your there to entertain the crowd.
If your up your own arse about House, go listen to Kerri Chandler, if you want to be entertained go see Fatboy Slim. I only seen FBS once live in the late 90s, he was alright.
that's absolutely true. before I saw Live on Brighton Beach I listened to some of his sets, including On The Floor At The Boutique, and I was surprised how bad his technical side of DJing is. True, he's got the right tracks in the right moments, but transitions were very basic. I say - hype helped him a lot. Add to it his "christ pose" and showing vinyl covers with names of songs...it was a part of the hype, but the connection with the crowd was awesome.
Another thing that came into my mind when you talked about people going into parties and have no idea what djs are doing. So true, most of them think that the music they play is made by the DJ and think wow that guy really makes great music which ofcourse in some cases is true.
Parties that I go to where there are Big Finnish DJs playing the DJs walk amongst the people in the party place and chat with people and are friendly and good people and that is great. Big respect to them.
I don't even have decks or anything yet (hopefully soon) but it's nice to see someone take the time out of their day to help the rest of the world learn a craft that would have otherwise gone on without props or people knowing what exactly the're doing. Thanks

It has a lot to do with being a producer.
If a person can create wonderful songs and they keep bringing out hits, then they will be asked to go to parties just because they create good music.
Even if they can't mix..
Without being a producer it will be very difficult to DJ at parties, unless you know a lot of people.
yalex123 5 years ago
sometimes is quite difficult to evaluate a dj.i'm thinking in David Mancuso,he knows how to mix, but he thinks a record should be played complete.
