I always loved Tszyu - as no nonsense as you will get. The parallels between Roger and Floyd are incredible - Floyd is basically Roger's style, with a bundle load more talent. If Cotto wants to beat Mayweather - just study this or Duran vs Leanard 1.
@MADMAC527 pactard is an apt discription of a person who, no matter what pledges rabid alligence to pacman and a floyd hater is a person who will find fault in floyd no matter what. i think the shoe fits
@Limekiln71 It doesn't fit. I don't hate Floyd and the only fault I find in him is his inactivity. I also don't have some unwavering fanaticism towards Pacquio. If that were true, then on my meaningless scorecard Pacquio would not have lost to Marquez, 115-113 in their last fight. Really, the only reason I am hoping Pacquio beats Floyd is to eliminate the perception out there among ignorant fight fans that there is a fighter who can beat all comers.
@MADMAC572 you don't have to be blasted out or caught cold like hatton was by pac or frazier by foreman or golata vs lewis to be destroyed! you can just bet spanked like a child like floyd vs gatti or beast fucked into quitting and then retiring like hatton vs tsyu! more than one way to fuck a cat!
@Limekiln71 The difference is that Tszyu vs Hatton was a very competetive fight until it ended. The other fights you mention were not competetive bouts. So no, Tszyu was not destroyed. He was beaten, but if that fight qualifies as "destroyed" then all fights were you win you "destroy" your opponent.
@Limekiln71 I'm not hating. I am simply keeping perspective. Floyd invites critique when he beats his chest (like all people do). Floyd is not the best welterweight until he matches Pacquios achievement in the division or beats Pacquio. He does that, then he's the best. Floyd is a fighter with great talent, great work ethic, great boxing backgrounnd - but he doesn't use it enough. He's been very successful, and he's a hall of famer. But he just isn't among the top end elite.
@MADMAC572 so now it is finally laid bare. you are a pactard/floydhater! why didn't you just say so up front? you dance around with tsyu, who you prob only watched to see how he did against roger, and if you mean all fights when somone beats you till you quit then you retire mean you've been destroyed, you're singing my song.....match pacs achievements at ww? hahhahahahahahahahahahahahahah! please you're killing me!!
@Limekiln71 "Pactard" - Foolish expression. "Floyd hater" - another foolish expression. At welterweight Floyd has six wins over six years. One fight a year. Pacquio has six wins in four years. Still not fighting enough. Both of them are cherry picking guys. Both of them are insufficiently active. Pacqui slightly more so. But only one of them is beating his chest saying "I'm the greatest". Floyd has a lot of ability and he might beat Pacquio. But they don't fight enough.
@MADMAC572 it is not 1957 anymore dude, top fighters don't fight that much anymore mainly because they have to promote the fight and build interest to maximize profits thats just the way the business goes in the modern age. if you want that kind of volume you can A) build a time machine or B) watch local gymrats who fight twice a month to put food on the table. as for fulmer, sugar who was 10 yrs older that fulmer, kayoed him in 1957 when he was 36 drew with him at 39 and lost a ud to him at 40
@Limekiln71 I understand that. They don't want to fight that often because they want to reduce the volume of wear and tear and increase revenues at the same time. That's fine - BUT, the cost is in legacy. Floyd takes it to the extreme though. Once a year is over the top. So Floyd wants to be known as a great and compare himself with those guys, he has to fight much more often. He might have valid reasons for not doing so, but they impact on his legacy.
@MADMAC572 the cost of his legacy exists in your mind only. no one else is making that arguement, and if you look back at money's record you will see that he fought much more as an up and comer+ he has beaten all comers so it is NOT a "perception" it is a fact YOU are the ignorant one on that. finally the fact is that floyd will be 35 next month and he only has a couple fights in him tops so pac needs to come on and fight him so they can both retire. i'm already looking at the next crop of ww's
@Limekiln71 Nope, lots of guys say the same thing. I've never heard one knowledgeable boxing fan make the claim that Floyd compares favorably with the legends of the sport like Chavez or Robinson. He has NEVER beaten all comers in any weight division. Obviously, since he's only got 42 fights and it would take more than that even in a single division. But yes, Pacquio needs to fight him, and they need to fight more than one time. But they won't. If they fight once we'll be lucky.
@Limekiln71 "He asked about a 50/50 split and I told him no, that can’t happen, but what can happen is you can make more money fighting me than you have made in your career," said Mayweather. I think THAT could be a problem. I would expect Manny to demand 50%. I know I would. He's certainly half the draw in this particular fight.
@Limekiln71 The matchup between the two is interesting, because Mayweather can be troubled by lefties with very good straight left hands (who have hand speed). Pacquio has an excellent straight left with very good hand speed and good power. On the other hand, Manny has sloppy footwork and tends to come straight at an opponent while Floyd exploits bad positioning well. I think, though, it comes down to Floyd's jab. Can he keep Manny off of him with it?
@Limekiln71 and these guys should fight three times - and they should do it in one year. If one of them wins both fights, OK, a third fight wouldn't be needed. When Robinson fought Fulmer, he lost, he won, they fought to a draw. As for Tszyu, I watched a lot of his fights because he used to fight on ESPN back when I was stationed up at Ft Drum. He was great fun to watch. Stalker, banger, but hittable. I loved Terry Norris too for the same reason.
@SanDiegoCaSixOneNine Hatton was also an excellent champion. Ali got destroyed by Holmes and then annihilated by Berbick. Does that mean Ali was a "tomato can"? Your judging the guy on his last two fights, which just happen to be against two of the very best P4P fighters of the decade. Ridiculous.
@MADMAC572 no it means ali was 38 and 39 and had already won the hw title 3 times when he fought those guys and hatton was in his prime and undefeated when he fought mayweather. hatton was very good but floyd dusted him off and manny swept him out of boxing
@Limekiln71 Ali was 29 when he lost his first fight, a unanimous decision to Joe Frazier. He was aged 31 when he had his next loss, a decision to Kenny Norton. Ricky Hatton was 30 when he lost his first fight and 31 when he lost his next fight. Hatton was a face first brawler, and usually those guys burn our quickly. Especially at the lower weights. Hatton also fought Floyd at 147 - his first fight at that weight. He had never fought or won over 140 to that point.
@MADMAC572 you left out the fact that ali had been dogged by our government for three years and had become rusty before he fought the late great frazier als you left out that he came back and beat frazier two times in a row after that also you forgot to mention that in the first frazier fight he took a left hook that would flatten a bull and got the fuck up and finished the fight and that he suffered a fractured jaw in the norton fight and fought on like a true all time great!= no comparrison
@Limekiln71 I was pointing out that by saying he was beat up at the end of his career by two all time greats does not make him a "tomato can" and that by using that valuation Ali is a Tomato can. I was not inferring that Hatton was comparable to Ali. I was pointing out that the valuation criteria for saying Ricky was "a joke" were not valid. Get it? Ricky had a lot of good fights, he was a good champion. Tszyu - with a record of 18-2 in championship fights, was better though.
@Limekiln71 It is fair to say that Hatton wasn't one of the all time greats. It is not fair to say he was a joke. Hatton beat a very good Kostya Tyszu, then defended his title defeating the likes of Collazo, Urango and Castillo - good fighters (although Castillo was done at that point). He had good wins over Lazcano and Malinaggi as well. Ricky was a good champion. Not one of the greats, but good. Calling him a joke is beyong ludicrous and something only an idiot would say.
@MADMAC572 castillio was done by age 33? about 17 months after knocking out the late great corrales and one year after whipping the rugged rolando reyes which was the last time reyes lost? castillio just turned 38 and just kayoed a guy last week! you had me going till you said that. also if tysu was great and hatton absolutely dominated him, then why shouldn't hatton also be considered great?
@Limekiln71 Castillo never won another major fight after the second Corralles fight. Some guys fade earlier than others. Look at Oscar. He was done at age 35. Look at how he struggled with Forbes (a solid, but not outstanding fighter) prior to the Pacquio fight. Castillo (like Oscar) could still compete against the B level opposition guys, but not the A guys. Hatton was an A guy when they fought. Tszyu was 35 when they fought and it was his last fight. That's why.
@MADMAC572 I disagree with the assertion that tysu was over the hill when he fought hatton. he was 33-1 and hadn't lost a fight since 97. he was also still 34 when they fought and had never even been roughed up. i'd say that ricky was a great fighter only whipped by two all time greats, and so was oscar he shut out forbes in a tuneup, and got whipped at age 34 at his nat wt by an all time great in floyd then weight drained and was shit canned by the great pacman. floyd at 34 just destroyed ortiz
@Limekiln71 I don't know if I'd say Tszyu was "over the hill", but he was obviously past his best days. And Hatton didn't "whip him". It was close fight. I was surprised Tszyu sat out the 12th, because I think he had a shot at the decision in that fight (not sure what the official scorecards were though). Tszyu was a MUCH harder puncher than Ricky, but Ricky was relentless. It was a goopd bout for him. But I think Tszyu would have won had they both been 26.
@MADMAC572 you were suprised because it wasn't you who was getting pummelled. tsyu was 33-1 and hadn't lost since 97 you can't take anything from ricky, you can but you'd be wrong. forbes had had 38 fights before he faced oscar and had never been down so no one not berto not hopkins or anyone to that point was able to pull the trigger on him. and i don't know what fight you were watching but in ortiz i say a guy totally stripped naked in public become a rabid coward and get put down like a dog
@Limekiln71 Tszyu was in the pummeling business. That's why I was surprised. To that point, it was a highly competetive fight, and most guys who are highly competetive fighters do not sit unless they are really hurt. Tszyu didn't appear to be really hurt (though perhaps he was). Forbes was a tough guy and a competent boxer, but he wasn't fast. Like I said, Roach said after the Forbes fight and before Pacquio fought him, that Oscar was done. That he couldn't pull the trigger anymore.
@Limekiln71 As for the Mayweather - Ortiz fight, I had Mayweather up one point prior to the ridiculous KO. Now, I'll be the first to tell you that Ortiz was an idiot, but that ending convinced nobody of anything. Ortiz was in the fight, but he was getting frustrated with Floyd's defense. Floyd is not particularly heavy handed, most cretainly Berto his Ortiz a lot harder in their fight, and Ortiz was strong enough he might have got into the fight had he kept pressing. We can't know.
@MADMAC572 who cares what your score card read? you are not a boxing judge or fighter, you're just an observer and judging by your comments not a very good one 1. most boxing fans know that when a fighter begins to behave as ortiz did in an erratic and blatantly unsportsmanlike way he feels he has no chance and is trying to get out of the fight! 2. if berto hit ortiz harder than floyd and floyd is not "heavy handed" how the fuck did he shit can ortiz with two punches?
@Limekiln71 I was a fighter for ten years. I have been a fan of the game for about 35. Yes, Ortiz was erratic. And yes, Ortiz was probably frustrated. BUT MANY fighters have gone from frustrated and ineffective over five rounds to go on and win a fight. I'm not saying Ortiz would have won, but he certainly did not give himself a chance to win. And come on, Floyd hit Ortiz right on the chin with two punches Ortiz did not see coming. It's the punch you don't see that hurts you most.
@Limekiln71 It sounds to me like you are trying to make an arguement that nobody in boxing should ever make - that Flooyd (or anyone else) can't be beaten or that he would have beaten any and all comers always at 147 (or 135 or whatever). The fighter that can't be beaten doesn't exist. Floyd doesn't fight enough, that's why he hasn't been beaten. If Floyd was as active as the very elite (and make no mistake - Floyd is an elite fighter) then he'd lose. Anybody would.
@Limekiln71 And yeah, I think Tszyu had reached a point where he was losing his motivation to fight. I think that's the reason he didn't come back for a rematch with Hatton. Motivation is a major part of the game and if you don't have it, than it's impossible to muster the determination is takes to go through really tough fights.
@MADMAC572 first it's conjecture, conjecture to make your wild point that tsyu is great but hatton isn't even though hatton soundly destroyed him then it's speculation speculation as to why floyd is undefeated then it's excuses excuses as to tsyus motivation or lack thereof. the fact is that you are a guy who ignores the reality in favor of distorting the events to fit into your dreamworld
@Limekiln71 It's conjecture who might win were they both the at their peaks when they fought, their accomplishments, however, are not conjecture. Tszyu was 18-2 in title fights. Hatton was 7-2. Hatton's quality of opposition was, good, Tszyu's was better. Hatton did not soundly destroy Tszyu. That was a highly competetive fight in which Hatton outlasted Tszyu. A good fight for Hatton to be sure, but he was nine years younger and at the top of his game.
@Limekiln71 Watch Foreman vs Frazier for "destroyed". Tszyu was 35 and getting ready to retire anyway. He was losing his desire. Hatton - Tszyu was a highly competetive fight in which Tszyu hit Hatton with a lot of clean shots over the course of the fight. Pacquio destroyed Hatton. Destroyed means a non-competetive fight in which one opponent is completely outclassed. That's not what happened here.
@Limekiln71 Was Frazier better than Ali? Ali was only 29 when Joe beat him. If I had asked you that question in 1973 what would you have said? Again, you evaluate fighters based on their overall record of achievement. Tszyu's overall record of achievement is better. Speculation on who might win when and if is fun, but it's also completely arbitrary and unsupportable. What matters is what fighters do, not what they might do or might have done.
@MADMAC572 1) because of our unjust govt at the time, ali, who was the gold medal winner in the lt hw division, was out of boxing for three years prior to his first fight with joe frazier who was a fuckin killer and a hof caliber fighter himself. ali also went on to beat joe twice become the first to win the hw title 3x he was great and so was tsyu and so was hatton and so is mayweather. unless you're an unrepentant biased hypocrite, you can see that
@Limekiln71 Yes, they were all very good fighters. I am not saying they are not. In the 140 poujnd division, Tszyu ranks higher than Ricky or Floyd because he accomplished a lot more there. P4P Floyd ranks ahead of both of them - 18-0 in title fights and championships in five divisions speaks for itself. As for total achievement, Ali stands head and shoulders above them all - in the ring and out. Ali was one of the greatest figures in sports.
@Limekiln71 And I didn't say that Tszyu was great and Hatton wasn't. What I said was that Tszyu ranked higher than Hatton. Just as Ali ranked higher than Holmes even though when they met at the end of Ali's career Holmes clobbered him every single round.
@MADMAC572 ali was 3 mos from his 39th bday, on his 60th fight and had just come out of a 2yr retirement that would be like giving rocky credit for beating an old shot joe louis! shit i could beat ali now! and holmes together! tsyu is a great hatton is a great holmes, floyd, ali frazier, shavers, norton, tyson are all greats! stop hating!
@Limekiln71 Freddy Roach said both before and after the DLH fight that it was clear that DLH was slowing down. That a guy like Forbes was able to block a lot of shots that five years before he would not have blocked. The reason Roach took the fight was because he said "Oscar can't pull the trigger anymore." His next fight was also his last fight. He was done. Now you are ascerting that Roach was wrong in his pre-fight statement? And no, Floyd did not destroy Ortiz
@Limekiln71 As for age, different guys age at different rates for a lot of different reasons. Look at Hopkins. The guy is what, 46, and he's still got it. Most guys are finished by 35. But there are exceptions. Look at Meldrick Taylor. He never beat a class A opponent after age 26. He had lost it by then. I think Floyd will be very good for another 3 to 4 years, but Manny will probably lose it sooner. Even mre than Floyd, Manny is VERY speed dependent.
@fernandochiarelli Thank you hombre. The racist drivel coming from idiots who call themselves boxing fans is utterly pathetic. Anyone who has laced up the gloves and boxed with another man and fails to respect what that takes for both of them is either obtuse or hasn't boxed.
@MrSoccer68 Perhaps, before you start employing racial slurs, you should learn to spell. It's one thing if people suspect you are a moron. It's another to post on the net and remove all doubt.
@MADMAC572 -yap ur right, am moron according to ur opinion, i will not disagree, its ur right to tell me am moron...and its my right too ,to tell you that mayweathers are human version of monkeys, its my opinion right? wahahahahahahahaha...goodbye gorilla
Roger was way over the hill when he fought Tszyu and still went the distance. Tszyu is overrated in my opinion. Look at his record carefully. Not alot of very good fighters in their prime, and he got ko'd by Vince Phillips who he never fought again to avenge the defeat. I think Roger in his prime around 1988 would have beaten the 1995 Tszyu.
@JCGCINC I don't know. It's an interesting match. In this fight, Roger was fighting to survive, and it's hard to stop a guy who does that. When you open up, you get hit more. Tszyu, as Judah found out, had very fast and very heavy hands. He was a good pressure fighter. Not an easy fight for anyone.
@markphelpsa Roger was fighting to survive. When guys do that, they are hard to take out. But I agree the knock on Tszyu was he didn't fight enough. I also think he was moved a touch too fast. But he was a tremendous puncher with very good hand speed.
@jitteryjoe It wouldn't have mattered. Hatton couldn't hit Mayweather cleanly when Mayweather was standing right in front him. I like Ricky, but he was a full level below Mayweather.
@jitteryjoe Well, I give him credit for taking on Ortiz. He was a legitimate threat. The fight ended in terrible manner, but that was as much Ortiz' fault as Mayweathers.
Koysta LOST to ricky hatton and floyd beat ricky hatton, that tells you who would win out of floyd and this dude, floyd is way better then his dad and uncle at boxing
lol i like how for this fight there isnt a million people in the ring after the fight is over, cuz i absolutely hate how they let every single person into the ring after the fight is over now
It's always fun watching Roger get his monkey ass whooped. As much as I dislike the guy I give him props for taking on the best fighters in the game (Whitaker, Chavez, tszyu etc). Too bad his nephew inherited his uncle's ( and pop's) stupidity and ego...but not their competitive spirit.
@kel1981, You're right. He did have more guts than his nephew. fought the best in his weight class back in the 80's, and never backed down from good fighters.
i wonder if roger mayeather was as cocky and arrogant asshole of a person in these days when he was gettin pummled by chavez and tszyu as he is now,and he mocks and calls all these boxers today shit when alot of them could of kicked his ass had he been fighting now, hatton would smash roger pacquiao would kill roger and de la hoya and cotto and clottey and that would aswell but he says they are shit lol
It's funny how a fighter with solid but not impressive skills in Roger Mayweather could have played such an instrumental role in the training of such a skilled fighter as Floyd Mayweather Jr.
@DensterNY don't you think there's an element of the Mayweather siblings learning the skills throughout their careers that they then pass on to FMJ? Perhaps had Roger or Floyd Sr had the knowledge they had at the end of their careers to impart on their extremely younger selves (bear in mind FMJ was doing boxing since he was a kid) then they might have been more successful in the ring.
@charlesgoodwin Undoubtedly, that is the case as their experience coupled with Floyd's gifted atheleticism and start at a young age culminated in a remarkable fighting machine. I guess it's like the old saying, those who can't teach...
@lahkidd yh ur right mayweather will never be great LMFAO world champ in 5 difrnt weight classes but no not great coz u have to be a champ like u dont ya champ of stupid comments
YEA the was BORINGHIM AND HIS BRO BEEN BEAT UP BY OTHER GREAT FIGHTERS!!Chavez,Leonard,Witaker. MAYWEATHER FAMILY IS PRETTY GOOD TO MAYBE GOOD BUT WILL NEVER BE GREAT!!!!!!
Kostya's best fight was against Hugo Pineda, 11 rounds of toe to toe action, Kostya down in the 1st (perferated ear drum) bleeding heavily from the ear, then 6 knock downs with 3 in the final round. The grit and determination Kostya showed in that fight made me a fan for life.
this is such a fucking boring fight!!!!!!!!!!!!! no excitement-- well i guess its in mayweather's blood!!! they should be banned in sports!!! like chicken gayweather jr!!!!
no wonder Hatton beat Kostya Tszyu / this guy is an old fart. I bet if he faught this guy in his prime he would have kissed the canvas. Ricky Hatton is a garbage boxer who was fed "D CLASS" fighters.
why do people talk shit to hatton? hes 47 with only 2 losses. arturo gatti had 9 losses and was really beat bad in some fights, so what if ricky lost to the two BEST in the sport
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this is a prime kostya tszyu and he's a joke. cant even take out a an old mayweather. Look what chavez did to a prime mayweather. never had respect for kostya tszyu.
Damn, I can't imagine how frustrating this match must have been for Tszyu. Every time he tries to get in close, which is where he does the real damage, Mayweather ties him up.
Esto es la otra cara de la moneda en el boxeo, una pobre exhibición de dos rudimentarios pugilistas, sin clase, sin estilo y carentes de la más elemental de las técnicas¡y pensar que disputaban un campeonato mundial!
haha true to that whytee666 these cunts fuckin talkin shit about kostya how about you get in the ring with him and see how you go i guarantee he will knock you out in the first round. so shut the fuck up you weak laggin dogs. or even better fuckin man up to me cunts.
haha true to that whytee666 kostya would cave all you cunts talkin shit about him get in the fuckin ring with him and i guarantee he will knock you out in the first round. you weak laggin fuckin dogs
funny as fuk...all u heros who think your xperts sitting behind your keyboard baggin every boxer that comes along....man the fuk up n get into the ring n fight some1 like kostya...he will shut u the fuk up...
@doncorleon818 i agree with u..if tszyu maintain his stamina, power and speed he canbeat all guys in welterweight division..like pacman since he started strawweight class to welterweight he maintain and improved his stamina, speed and power. He will stop if he retire in boxing
@doncorleon818 To be fair that was Hatton's career all in one night, he gave it all and fought his ass off, can't take anything away from him...But yeah, Prime Tszyu would have wrecked the shit out of him, he was coming off of a looooong period of inactivity and was getting very aged....
@doncorleon818 Hatton really doesn't blow. Nobody else manhandled Tszyu like that even after his prime. It's fashionable to discredit Hatton but his competition at WW was actually better than Mayweather's who has been at WW 7 years and only fought one natural WW.
@jitteryjoe what are you talking about? Hatton was a JWW. He moved up to fight Floyd at 147. Hatton was nothing more than a great white hype created by HBO to generate a bigger following from another country, Kotsa was old when Hatton fought him. To say that the fight wouldve been the same if Kotsa was 10 years younger is just crazy. Hatton was a ABOVE AVERAGE fighter, but NEVER ELITE or could come close to ANY of the top fighters, WW OR JWW.
@spurs2k6 Like I said, nobody else manhandled Kosta like that EVEN AFTER HIS PRIME. And Hatton fought Castillo, Maliganni, Manny Pacquiao. It's one thing to say he's protected, but so are guys like Floyd Mayweather.
At least Hatton actually fought guys relevant to his own weightclass.
RIGHT!!! PACMAN is the greatest for beating the SAME TWO fighters that Floyd just beat!!! So when Floyd Destroys the same guy (Marquez) that every Boxing expert thinks defeated Pacman TWICE...Then What???
@darryl1914 You evaluate fighters based on overall achievement, not one fight. Pacquio has won titles in eight divisions - a singular remarkable feat. Pacquio is considerably smaller than Floyd, yet is beating convincingly a lot of the same fighters Floyd beat. This doesn't mean he'll beat Floyd, but his legacy overall certainly compares favorably.
he beat dela hoya a pussy ass bitch black people run boxing you casn never say any mexican is better than ali, frazier, tyson. and that dumb ass pac man will be put down he doges every black fighter he has been up against
I always loved Tszyu - as no nonsense as you will get. The parallels between Roger and Floyd are incredible - Floyd is basically Roger's style, with a bundle load more talent. If Cotto wants to beat Mayweather - just study this or Duran vs Leanard 1.

Limekiln71 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 Nope, lots of guys say the same thing. I've never heard one knowledgeable boxing fan make the claim that Floyd compares favorably with the legends of the sport like Chavez or Robinson. He has NEVER beaten all comers in any weight division. Obviously, since he's only got 42 fights and it would take more than that even in a single division. But yes, Pacquio needs to fight him, and they need to fight more than one time. But they won't. If they fight once we'll be lucky.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 "He asked about a 50/50 split and I told him no, that can’t happen, but what can happen is you can make more money fighting me than you have made in your career," said Mayweather. I think THAT could be a problem. I would expect Manny to demand 50%. I know I would. He's certainly half the draw in this particular fight.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 The matchup between the two is interesting, because Mayweather can be troubled by lefties with very good straight left hands (who have hand speed). Pacquio has an excellent straight left with very good hand speed and good power. On the other hand, Manny has sloppy footwork and tends to come straight at an opponent while Floyd exploits bad positioning well. I think, though, it comes down to Floyd's jab. Can he keep Manny off of him with it?
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 and these guys should fight three times - and they should do it in one year. If one of them wins both fights, OK, a third fight wouldn't be needed. When Robinson fought Fulmer, he lost, he won, they fought to a draw. As for Tszyu, I watched a lot of his fights because he used to fight on ESPN back when I was stationed up at Ft Drum. He was great fun to watch. Stalker, banger, but hittable. I loved Terry Norris too for the same reason.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@SanDiegoCaSixOneNine Hatton was also an excellent champion. Ali got destroyed by Holmes and then annihilated by Berbick. Does that mean Ali was a "tomato can"? Your judging the guy on his last two fights, which just happen to be against two of the very best P4P fighters of the decade. Ridiculous.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@MADMAC572 no it means ali was 38 and 39 and had already won the hw title 3 times when he fought those guys and hatton was in his prime and undefeated when he fought mayweather. hatton was very good but floyd dusted him off and manny swept him out of boxing
Limekiln71 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 Ali was 29 when he lost his first fight, a unanimous decision to Joe Frazier. He was aged 31 when he had his next loss, a decision to Kenny Norton. Ricky Hatton was 30 when he lost his first fight and 31 when he lost his next fight. Hatton was a face first brawler, and usually those guys burn our quickly. Especially at the lower weights. Hatton also fought Floyd at 147 - his first fight at that weight. He had never fought or won over 140 to that point.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@MADMAC572 you left out the fact that ali had been dogged by our government for three years and had become rusty before he fought the late great frazier als you left out that he came back and beat frazier two times in a row after that also you forgot to mention that in the first frazier fight he took a left hook that would flatten a bull and got the fuck up and finished the fight and that he suffered a fractured jaw in the norton fight and fought on like a true all time great!= no comparrison
Limekiln71 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 I was pointing out that by saying he was beat up at the end of his career by two all time greats does not make him a "tomato can" and that by using that valuation Ali is a Tomato can. I was not inferring that Hatton was comparable to Ali. I was pointing out that the valuation criteria for saying Ricky was "a joke" were not valid. Get it? Ricky had a lot of good fights, he was a good champion. Tszyu - with a record of 18-2 in championship fights, was better though.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 It is fair to say that Hatton wasn't one of the all time greats. It is not fair to say he was a joke. Hatton beat a very good Kostya Tyszu, then defended his title defeating the likes of Collazo, Urango and Castillo - good fighters (although Castillo was done at that point). He had good wins over Lazcano and Malinaggi as well. Ricky was a good champion. Not one of the greats, but good. Calling him a joke is beyong ludicrous and something only an idiot would say.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@MADMAC572 castillio was done by age 33? about 17 months after knocking out the late great corrales and one year after whipping the rugged rolando reyes which was the last time reyes lost? castillio just turned 38 and just kayoed a guy last week! you had me going till you said that. also if tysu was great and hatton absolutely dominated him, then why shouldn't hatton also be considered great?
Limekiln71 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 Castillo never won another major fight after the second Corralles fight. Some guys fade earlier than others. Look at Oscar. He was done at age 35. Look at how he struggled with Forbes (a solid, but not outstanding fighter) prior to the Pacquio fight. Castillo (like Oscar) could still compete against the B level opposition guys, but not the A guys. Hatton was an A guy when they fought. Tszyu was 35 when they fought and it was his last fight. That's why.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@MADMAC572 I disagree with the assertion that tysu was over the hill when he fought hatton. he was 33-1 and hadn't lost a fight since 97. he was also still 34 when they fought and had never even been roughed up. i'd say that ricky was a great fighter only whipped by two all time greats, and so was oscar he shut out forbes in a tuneup, and got whipped at age 34 at his nat wt by an all time great in floyd then weight drained and was shit canned by the great pacman. floyd at 34 just destroyed ortiz
Limekiln71 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 I don't know if I'd say Tszyu was "over the hill", but he was obviously past his best days. And Hatton didn't "whip him". It was close fight. I was surprised Tszyu sat out the 12th, because I think he had a shot at the decision in that fight (not sure what the official scorecards were though). Tszyu was a MUCH harder puncher than Ricky, but Ricky was relentless. It was a goopd bout for him. But I think Tszyu would have won had they both been 26.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@MADMAC572 you were suprised because it wasn't you who was getting pummelled. tsyu was 33-1 and hadn't lost since 97 you can't take anything from ricky, you can but you'd be wrong. forbes had had 38 fights before he faced oscar and had never been down so no one not berto not hopkins or anyone to that point was able to pull the trigger on him. and i don't know what fight you were watching but in ortiz i say a guy totally stripped naked in public become a rabid coward and get put down like a dog
Limekiln71 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 Tszyu was in the pummeling business. That's why I was surprised. To that point, it was a highly competetive fight, and most guys who are highly competetive fighters do not sit unless they are really hurt. Tszyu didn't appear to be really hurt (though perhaps he was). Forbes was a tough guy and a competent boxer, but he wasn't fast. Like I said, Roach said after the Forbes fight and before Pacquio fought him, that Oscar was done. That he couldn't pull the trigger anymore.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 As for the Mayweather - Ortiz fight, I had Mayweather up one point prior to the ridiculous KO. Now, I'll be the first to tell you that Ortiz was an idiot, but that ending convinced nobody of anything. Ortiz was in the fight, but he was getting frustrated with Floyd's defense. Floyd is not particularly heavy handed, most cretainly Berto his Ortiz a lot harder in their fight, and Ortiz was strong enough he might have got into the fight had he kept pressing. We can't know.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@MADMAC572 who cares what your score card read? you are not a boxing judge or fighter, you're just an observer and judging by your comments not a very good one 1. most boxing fans know that when a fighter begins to behave as ortiz did in an erratic and blatantly unsportsmanlike way he feels he has no chance and is trying to get out of the fight! 2. if berto hit ortiz harder than floyd and floyd is not "heavy handed" how the fuck did he shit can ortiz with two punches?
Limekiln71 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 I was a fighter for ten years. I have been a fan of the game for about 35. Yes, Ortiz was erratic. And yes, Ortiz was probably frustrated. BUT MANY fighters have gone from frustrated and ineffective over five rounds to go on and win a fight. I'm not saying Ortiz would have won, but he certainly did not give himself a chance to win. And come on, Floyd hit Ortiz right on the chin with two punches Ortiz did not see coming. It's the punch you don't see that hurts you most.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 It sounds to me like you are trying to make an arguement that nobody in boxing should ever make - that Flooyd (or anyone else) can't be beaten or that he would have beaten any and all comers always at 147 (or 135 or whatever). The fighter that can't be beaten doesn't exist. Floyd doesn't fight enough, that's why he hasn't been beaten. If Floyd was as active as the very elite (and make no mistake - Floyd is an elite fighter) then he'd lose. Anybody would.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 And yeah, I think Tszyu had reached a point where he was losing his motivation to fight. I think that's the reason he didn't come back for a rematch with Hatton. Motivation is a major part of the game and if you don't have it, than it's impossible to muster the determination is takes to go through really tough fights.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@MADMAC572 first it's conjecture, conjecture to make your wild point that tsyu is great but hatton isn't even though hatton soundly destroyed him then it's speculation speculation as to why floyd is undefeated then it's excuses excuses as to tsyus motivation or lack thereof. the fact is that you are a guy who ignores the reality in favor of distorting the events to fit into your dreamworld
Limekiln71 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 It's conjecture who might win were they both the at their peaks when they fought, their accomplishments, however, are not conjecture. Tszyu was 18-2 in title fights. Hatton was 7-2. Hatton's quality of opposition was, good, Tszyu's was better. Hatton did not soundly destroy Tszyu. That was a highly competetive fight in which Hatton outlasted Tszyu. A good fight for Hatton to be sure, but he was nine years younger and at the top of his game.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@MADMAC572 hatton retired tsyu. if that don't count as soundly destroying a guy i don't know what does.
Limekiln71 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 Watch Foreman vs Frazier for "destroyed". Tszyu was 35 and getting ready to retire anyway. He was losing his desire. Hatton - Tszyu was a highly competetive fight in which Tszyu hit Hatton with a lot of clean shots over the course of the fight. Pacquio destroyed Hatton. Destroyed means a non-competetive fight in which one opponent is completely outclassed. That's not what happened here.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 Was Frazier better than Ali? Ali was only 29 when Joe beat him. If I had asked you that question in 1973 what would you have said? Again, you evaluate fighters based on their overall record of achievement. Tszyu's overall record of achievement is better. Speculation on who might win when and if is fun, but it's also completely arbitrary and unsupportable. What matters is what fighters do, not what they might do or might have done.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@MADMAC572 1) because of our unjust govt at the time, ali, who was the gold medal winner in the lt hw division, was out of boxing for three years prior to his first fight with joe frazier who was a fuckin killer and a hof caliber fighter himself. ali also went on to beat joe twice become the first to win the hw title 3x he was great and so was tsyu and so was hatton and so is mayweather. unless you're an unrepentant biased hypocrite, you can see that
Limekiln71 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 Yes, they were all very good fighters. I am not saying they are not. In the 140 poujnd division, Tszyu ranks higher than Ricky or Floyd because he accomplished a lot more there. P4P Floyd ranks ahead of both of them - 18-0 in title fights and championships in five divisions speaks for itself. As for total achievement, Ali stands head and shoulders above them all - in the ring and out. Ali was one of the greatest figures in sports.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 And I didn't say that Tszyu was great and Hatton wasn't. What I said was that Tszyu ranked higher than Hatton. Just as Ali ranked higher than Holmes even though when they met at the end of Ali's career Holmes clobbered him every single round.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@MADMAC572 ali was 3 mos from his 39th bday, on his 60th fight and had just come out of a 2yr retirement that would be like giving rocky credit for beating an old shot joe louis! shit i could beat ali now! and holmes together! tsyu is a great hatton is a great holmes, floyd, ali frazier, shavers, norton, tyson are all greats! stop hating!
Limekiln71 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 Freddy Roach said both before and after the DLH fight that it was clear that DLH was slowing down. That a guy like Forbes was able to block a lot of shots that five years before he would not have blocked. The reason Roach took the fight was because he said "Oscar can't pull the trigger anymore." His next fight was also his last fight. He was done. Now you are ascerting that Roach was wrong in his pre-fight statement? And no, Floyd did not destroy Ortiz
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@Limekiln71 As for age, different guys age at different rates for a lot of different reasons. Look at Hopkins. The guy is what, 46, and he's still got it. Most guys are finished by 35. But there are exceptions. Look at Meldrick Taylor. He never beat a class A opponent after age 26. He had lost it by then. I think Floyd will be very good for another 3 to 4 years, but Manny will probably lose it sooner. Even mre than Floyd, Manny is VERY speed dependent.

Roger was way over the hill when he fought Tszyu and still went the distance. Tszyu is overrated in my opinion. Look at his record carefully. Not alot of very good fighters in their prime, and he got ko'd by Vince Phillips who he never fought again to avenge the defeat. I think Roger in his prime around 1988 would have beaten the 1995 Tszyu.
markphelpsa 2 months ago
@markphelpsa I agree. FLoyd Jr wanted to fight Tszyu really bad but Tszyu wanted nothing to do with Floyd. Prime Roger would have whooped him.
JCGCINC 2 months ago
@JCGCINC I don't know. It's an interesting match. In this fight, Roger was fighting to survive, and it's hard to stop a guy who does that. When you open up, you get hit more. Tszyu, as Judah found out, had very fast and very heavy hands. He was a good pressure fighter. Not an easy fight for anyone.
MADMAC572 1 month ago
@markphelpsa Roger was fighting to survive. When guys do that, they are hard to take out. But I agree the knock on Tszyu was he didn't fight enough. I also think he was moved a touch too fast. But he was a tremendous puncher with very good hand speed.

@jitteryjoe It wouldn't have mattered. Hatton couldn't hit Mayweather cleanly when Mayweather was standing right in front him. I like Ricky, but he was a full level below Mayweather.

It's funny how a fighter with solid but not impressive skills in Roger Mayweather could have played such an instrumental role in the training of such a skilled fighter as Floyd Mayweather Jr.
DensterNY 1 year ago
@DensterNY don't you think there's an element of the Mayweather siblings learning the skills throughout their careers that they then pass on to FMJ? Perhaps had Roger or Floyd Sr had the knowledge they had at the end of their careers to impart on their extremely younger selves (bear in mind FMJ was doing boxing since he was a kid) then they might have been more successful in the ring.

supermelonazo tiene razon sera hall of famer y lo que tu quieras pero no tiene ni tecnica ni estilo, es muy,muy fuertey por eso esta donde esta ,pero boxisticamente no tiene mucho

@supermelomanazo:

Damn, I can't imagine how frustrating this match must have been for Tszyu. Every time he tries to get in close, which is where he does the real damage, Mayweather ties him up.

7:42 - Zab Judah?? LOL

Esto es la otra cara de la moneda en el boxeo, una pobre exhibición de dos rudimentarios pugilistas, sin clase, sin estilo y carentes de la más elemental de las técnicas¡y pensar que disputaban un campeonato mundial!

HE WAS OLD!!! Hatton blows. tszyu in his prime would kill fatton.
doncorleon818 2 years ago 33
Tszyu wasn't old when hatton beat him, he had just knocked out Zab Judah. Then Hatton beat him
RuffhouseNC 2 years ago
Hatton beat Tszyu 4 years after Tszyu beat Judah. Tszyu was 35yrs old and outclassed Hatton who was 26, unfortunately he lost.

You have no idea what you are talking about ruffhousenc. He fought Judah in 2001. He fought Hatton 4 years later in 2005 when he was almost 36.

@doncorleon818 i agree with u..if tszyu maintain his stamina, power and speed he canbeat all guys in welterweight division..like pacman since he started strawweight class to welterweight he maintain and improved his stamina, speed and power. He will stop if he retire in boxing
UnitedBohol 1 year ago
@doncorleon818 To be fair that was Hatton's career all in one night, he gave it all and fought his ass off, can't take anything away from him...But yeah, Prime Tszyu would have wrecked the shit out of him, he was coming off of a looooong period of inactivity and was getting very aged....
XionComrade 1 year ago
@doncorleon818 so do agree dude ....... hes a champ and a good guy
rogerson61 1 year ago
@doncorleon818 Hatton really doesn't blow. Nobody else manhandled Tszyu like that even after his prime. It's fashionable to discredit Hatton but his competition at WW was actually better than Mayweather's who has been at WW 7 years and only fought one natural WW.
jitteryjoe 10 months ago
@jitteryjoe what are you talking about? Hatton was a JWW. He moved up to fight Floyd at 147. Hatton was nothing more than a great white hype created by HBO to generate a bigger following from another country, Kotsa was old when Hatton fought him. To say that the fight wouldve been the same if Kotsa was 10 years younger is just crazy. Hatton was a ABOVE AVERAGE fighter, but NEVER ELITE or could come close to ANY of the top fighters, WW OR JWW.
spurs2k6 6 months ago
@spurs2k6 Like I said, nobody else manhandled Kosta like that EVEN AFTER HIS PRIME. And Hatton fought Castillo, Maliganni, Manny Pacquiao. It's one thing to say he's protected, but so are guys like Floyd Mayweather.
At least Hatton actually fought guys relevant to his own weightclass.

when floyd starts knocking out great fighters call him the greatest til then stfu! pac-man is the greatest 4 now and am mexican no bias here
mrbarrera2012 2 years ago
RIGHT!!! PACMAN is the greatest for beating the SAME TWO fighters that Floyd just beat!!! So when Floyd Destroys the same guy (Marquez) that every Boxing expert thinks defeated Pacman TWICE...Then What???
darryl1914 2 years ago
@darryl1914 You evaluate fighters based on overall achievement, not one fight. Pacquio has won titles in eight divisions - a singular remarkable feat. Pacquio is considerably smaller than Floyd, yet is beating convincingly a lot of the same fighters Floyd beat. This doesn't mean he'll beat Floyd, but his legacy overall certainly compares favorably.
